Many contingencies beyond climate can or must be factored into the plausible emergence of complex societies-- * topography, * fertility, * literacy, * local fauna, flora and mineral resources, * riparian corridors for travel and water, * sea lanes and overland trails for trade, * coastal indentations for ports and forts, * average number of days of inclement weather, * expected cycles of plague or pestilence, * the relative dangers posed by predator megafauna, * any proximal human aggression, and, of course, * a society's self-regard and prevailing identities--that is, its tolerance for innovation and ideation vs limited capacity for individual flourishing, intellectual ferment, social collaboration, etc.

I'm gonna help narrow it down and present some of my findings and thoughts.🤓 From the map shown at about 6:00, there are three spots that stood out to me. The first is the southern-most area, which is on Victoria island near the large western bay, at around 70.3, -111.4. Surrounded by coal deposits, access to the water, and, this is something not brought up during the video, there are(on Google Maps, at least) some green patches nearby, indicating a forested area where Santa's reindeer might reside. The next two confused me a bit(not saying Atlas Pro did this intentionally🤔), because the large coal deposit and red shoreline make it seem as if it's one island, when in fact there are two islands in the area that meet the criteria. 🤯The northern-most is Borden island, the small southern bay at around 78.4, -111.14, as it again is a more secluded bay with access to coal deposits and potential forested areas nearby for the reindeer. Third is the island just to the south, Mackenzie King island, at around 77.83, -111, which checks all the boxes. Now, as to which one of these three it is, I think we can rule out Borden island.🙅‍♂ Why? Because it's the most exposed of the three. Remember, these are all named islands, which means that somebody has been there at some point; while there is a nearby forest, the mountains- with potential natural or elf-made caves to take cover in- are not as numerous or close by for a getaway. Just South on Mackenzie King island, however, there are more elevated and mountainous areas that are close by, in addition to the forest. Lastly, the spot on Victoria island sits at the end of a long bay, which might ice over during the coldest parts of the year, and it also has another defense which the other two islands don't: a whole bunch of lakes, which would make navigating the interior of the island much slower and potentially hazardous, depending on how thick their ice is. Both the Victoria and Mackenzie King spots make a lot of sense, and as you can see, they both offer a fairly clear flight path. But there's one final thing that for me all but confirms the workshop location. You see, while it was mentioned that the potential western areas were far away from people that celebrated Christmas for over a millennia, one of the two spots left- I'll just come out and say it- Victoria island is still in the region of Inuit owned land. The natives may have long accepted Santa and the elves as their own but there's still the off chance that one of them might snitch, which would make the Victoria island spot less ideal in modern times. That leaves just one island left which is far North of permanent settlements, has access to the ocean for fishing and shipping, coal deposits, forests for the reindeer, has mountainous terrain for emergency lodging and work, and a clear flight and sailing path to Europe... 🤔🤫

Ok I have a weird theory about the silver trout if they were somewhat mistaken for brook trout maybe we could find the brook trout and cross-breed it with another species of trout we might be able to re-create the silver trout but someone smarter than me could probably test this and prove me wrong but just an idea

Lakes like Christine Lake, the second lake you were in, are so familiar to me from my childhood. They’re always an adventure - one minute you’re feeling your way carefully over slippery rocks, the next you’re in water over your head. And the next you’re scraping the skin off the tops of your toes or barking your shins on a random slab. I miss these lakes so much!

It may be forested now, it likely wasn't 150 years ago, everything was made of wood back then, houses to carriages. And with a body of water to dam up for the mill, they were there, allowing nothing to stop the silt from walking on in with the rain or the wind and covering the eggs.

Hit me up before you go fishing next time, I'm central ny, I'll loan you some gear. Juvenile smallmouth were those little ones. or here's a tip next time, fish are curious, when I chuck trout style(color and shape) 8-10 inch rubber baits, I get a lot of trout follow it back in(a lot of curious fish of all types actually, and goes for many large lures --they become an "ooohhh ooo OOO look" bait some days) and you could get amazing drone footage(potentially, but they are weary of birds -- being predator of theirs.)

I got some 4k footage of brook trout spawning this winter if you'd like, but in creeks and it aint on big rocks, they're called redds. If they spawn in 10-12 inches you're going to see them, chasing sunnies and chasing other male trout and bumping the females.

1 Minute in, and I just think it's whitefish lmao. They look like parr when young, stay in the shallows while small(like a brook trout) and then live in the deep waters as adults(very deep waters). We killed them off almost everywhere in the northeast. Edit 2 minutes in and people called bass trout all over the south, green trout, probably still do in some places. They called everything a trout back in the day, then called everything a basse for a while. Edit yea they spawn in the fall, and have red flesh just like the mentions in that book(above where you quoted.) Also says forked tail, that aint trout, but lake whitefish have a semi forked tail. I think it was whitefish at the beginning and then the stocking of rainbow trout helped kill them off and confused the locals after catching them and hybrids. I see you touched on hybrids too. I still dunno about a silver trout, my money is on confused locals, but I have been wrong plenty of times before.

Hello from Trinidad. Really great video. Educational , inspiring and from the heart. Thanks very much. The effect of mankind on nature is tyrannical. The dilemma for me is the ability of these perpetrators to believe in the total righteousness of their causes while actively committing evil against all.
