@@abritishaudiophile7314 It makes sense. It's a reasonable price for an AKM 4490 based board. It's the chip in the RME ADI2 FS V.1 (is everyone aware that the AKM factory burned to the ground six months ago? Stocks are dwindling!) Many people use external dacs, so why incur in additional expense (unless for the sake of convenience or integration). The "free" dacs in most integrateds tend to be fairly modest.

I have an Atoll IN-200 in both my setups, in the beginning the mids/highs we're a little forward (not harsh) and lean in the bass which resulted sometimes in listening fatigue with some tracks. After a few months I changed the interconnects from an AudioQuest Evergreen to a Golden Gate and the sound changed to a much fuller (richer) sound with a coherent bass without any fatigue! Sometimes even falling asleep with high volumes 😅( I don't comment on depth and imaging because this is also related to the source, speakers and their placement). I agree that this amp plays incredible well (dynamic) at very low volumes. I also use (sometimes)the balance control when I'm seated off axis and this works perfect with this amp. I can only recommend the Atoll brand and also their customer service is 10/10. Great review! 👌 PS My choice for AudioQuest was more a coincidence but I'm very happy with the result 🙂

Hi Tarun, I really love your reviews. I bought the IN 200 yesterday. It sounds really great with my KEF LS 50 Meta. This morning I heard a hum, it was coming from the IN 200 (in stand-by mode). So I touched the cabinet at the ventilation perforation and felt that it was very warm. (measured 30°C in 23°C room temperature). Then I measured the energy consumption in standby mode. Result 20 watts!!! I turned on the IN 200 to measure the energy consumption. Result: 21 watts. The main switch is located on the back of the IN 200! Very functional. I have seen the standby consumption of other manufacturers such as Music Fidelity, Acram or Yamaha, something 0.5 watts. ATOLL writes in its user manual: NOTES: - For maximum fidelity, we recommend that you turn the amplifier on min. ½h before playing music. This is the time the power amplifiers to come up to working temperature. To avoid this warm up phase you can switch the amplifier to standby - so the power amplifiers keep the power amplifiers keep the working temperature. To follow this advice would cost me about 70€ for energy per year. The amplifier goes back to the dealer tomorrow. BTW, I am from German. Best Regards, Stefan

You nailed it ! Great description of this local integrated ;) I started with the Atoll In30 and In100 and currently the In200 as one reference. I love Atoll signature sound, it's alive. For all the Atoll integrated, upgrade advice : Replace the power supply by Mundorf Mlytic AG capacitors, you gain weight, texture, sparkle in the bass. I call it the electric bass. You change the coupling caps by Elna silmic II RFS bypass by SCR SY 0.47µf film caps. You'll gain more clarity, density and finesse to the all spectrum. This amp is amazing and with small upgrades it becomes great ! 2 audionote kasei bipolar in the right place and :)

@@kfernandes86 In the IN100SE i don't think it's jamicon, more generic stuff but yes the gain is big. But what i recommand change all, absolutly all the caps.If you can change for the Higher voltage. Instead of 35V go for 50V or 100V. Every electrolitic (Elna, Audio note) bypass by a film (SCR SY, jantzen superior z cap or Miflex kpcu-03). If you have the money go for all film caps for the coupling caps. It's worth it if you can do it yourself because it's almost 300 euro in component. You'll have to pay an additional 400+ if someone has to doit for you.

Hi Tarun. Great to hear your review of the Atoll IN 200. You may remember I previously mentioned I was considering buying the Atoll and the Amphion Argon 3S both made in Europe.( I do not buy Chinese manufactured products so the Hegel was a non starter.) I have been running the Atoll (with DAC) for 3 weeks now partnered with Castle Howard S2 (20year + old) speakers. The Atoll has got mellower over time and seems to be continuing to do so. My speaker drivers are 115 cm from the front wall and 2m apart. The room is 6.9m long. The sound stage with the Atoll is wider than the speaker distance, deep, high and not forward of plane of drivers. Imaging is better than with my Krell KAV-400Xi but slightly narrower sound stage. DAC compares well with my Lindemann MusicBook20DSD although does not upsample. Still considering Amphion Argon 3S and Proac D2R speakers but after your review perhaps ATC SCM19 would be a better match. I continue to welcome your reviews. Daniel

Hello Tarun, excellent review. I really hope that you’ll be able to test more Atoll products in the near future. I currently own and enjoying multiple Atoll products. From my trusty DAC100SE , DR100 CD transport to my recently acquired and excellent sounding ST200 signature DAC/streamer. The above items work extremely well with my Hegel H120 and Sugden ANV-50. Two additional tidbits to add to your review which might be useful to others. Often overlook but important to me is the physical size of Atoll products as compared to the competition. Even the higher end Atoll IN300 comes in at a reasonable 12.6 inched deep. I would love a H390 but it’s just too big for my average size living room setup. Another point, and from personal experience is Atoll’s customer support which I find to be very good. Always there when help, and respond quickly to email enquiries (good luck getting a quick response from Sugden 😉). That’s it, thanks again and stay safe. Brian.

I recently had the opportunity to buy the previous model the IN200se at an amazing price. the major difference visually is buttons to adjust volume and balance in lieu of a knob. I am sure there are other changes but I remain ignorant of those although they seem very similar. I liked the amp a lot. Dynamic,, slightly warm, detailed but just true to the music and natural sounding to me. I used the preamp section of the Atoll with a pair of Belles Aria mono block amps and I was stunned. The sound was outstanding. The preamp section of that amp is just a killer.. Just my experience but very interesting. Excellent construction on my unit but for the US selling price for a Signature model of about $2900, I"d want to hear the signature over my model before taking the leap.

A very interesting review which struck a chord with me. I recently upgraded my perfectly fine £1800 30 year old integrated British amp with a damping factor of 1400, for a 4 times the price preamp, monoblocks combination, with a damping factor of 2600. The bass was fast and tight, but, totally lacked heft! I listened to it for 3 months, hoping that the manufacturers recommended 200 hour burn in time would improve things. It didn’t! If I had to live with this rather lean sonic picture, I guess I would have learned to appreciate it’s openness, clarity and transparency, but I chose not to. I plumbed back in my 30 year old Vritish integrated and immediately appreciated the acoustic mass and musical density it bought back. I spoke with the dealer from whom I’d purchased the preamp monoblocks combo. He was extremely understanding and helpful and allowed me to swap out the preamp for another manufacturers preamp which he describes as being far more legato. He was right. The new combo now offers that acoustic mass, musical density and fluidity I appreciate, maybe at the loss of a little resolution, but that is a sacrifice I’m happy to make! That 30 year British integrated, is not connected, but still sits proudly in my rack, in readiness for active service should it be required.

I think a big one on each side will be beter. Small remark aside... When you talk about the quality of the DAC, maybe should mention that people will be more then happy with it for those looking for a build-in or external at this price point iso generalise it to 'most people'. What a coincidence... yesterday i upgraded my Iotavx SA-3 & PA-3 stack for a used Atoll IN300. I loved the Iota amps, but they are overruled by the Atoll on all fronts. The soundstage of my Dynaudio Evoke 20's has doubled in width and reaches way beyond my speakers now. Toe in is nog longer necessary. Only after hooking up the Atoll I now understand what all this talk about depth in soundstage means as well. It suddenly is there, as I never heard that the singer was in front of the piano player before. Left to right was noticable with the Iota's, but depth.... nope. I believe that the Iota-stack is your best choice under € 2.000. The Atoll IN300 is another league. Only downside is that I have to listen to my complete vinyl collection again, as I now hear details for the very first time. Thanks for the review Tarun!

Hi Sir, how would you describe the IN300's sound signature? ( like on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the warmest, 10 the brightest, 5 the most neutral ). Also does it also have weak bass weight like the IN200? Thanks !
@robininterstellarlabel8242 жыл бұрын
@@bloodbathory5624 Hi Sir! The IN300 is a brilliant amp. After listening to it for over a year, I have never got bored by it. It is lively, punchy and just amplifies whatever you put into it. I hooked up a vintage ('90s) pre-amp. A Yamaha CX-1, mainly for it's phono pre-stage. The Atoll is -to my ears- a 4 on your scale. A little bit on the warm side of neutral. But just a little. It has the analogue sound, but not over the top. Bass is huge. No worries.

Great review Tarun, thanks again! The sound signature sounds very similar to other mosfet based apps I’ve owned/heard, which I have to say generally are not my cup of tea. Super fast, tight, but somewhat lean bass (lacking in low end weight). Lacking a bit in warmth through midbass and mids. Some upper midrange emphasis. Overall immediacy and dynamic prowess even at low listening volumes, etc. So far, I prefer the low end weight and warmth and smoothness of bipolar output transistors over mosfets in my limited experience. Would be interested if you’ve noticed similar things in other amps.
@abritishaudiophile73143 жыл бұрын
Thank you Rick. Great to hear about your experiences. You have summed up the Atoll amp very well. I was always led to believe that mosfets and jfets operated more like tubes than bipolars. The distortion profile would lead to more 2nd harmonic giving it a warmer, richer sound. I haven’t listened to enough of them to draw that conclusion so I wouldn’t bet on it being true. It would be interesting to find out in time 😊👍

In my rooms(s) I always experienced to much bass weight from different speakers/amps. The Atoll solved this issue completely but now it sounded a bit to lean 🙈 adding a musical sub was the solution, so now the Atoll in combination with a sub is in my room the perfect solution..

Atoll is a serious competitor to everything from the popular Japanese and British brands (NAD and Cambridge). The IN200 and their below 1000 euros lines, of INs, PRs, MAs and AMs, is of equal built quality, for their respective price. Minimalist features compared to the competition, but better components. I would love to get your take on some of Rega’s offerings - Elicit R and the Aethos. I guess they are talked about quite a bit though. Still curious about the Rega amps higher in the range though! Whenever I heard the Brio in the shop, it just had a rightness and musically to it (while not the most subtle and refined, but then again the Exposure is 2.5 times more 😃). @@abritishaudiophile7314 well, my local dealer allowed me to take the Atoll IN200 home to demo in my space. Many of your observations in your review were spot on. The IN200 works well to bring the warmth of the Harbeth C7 a bit toward neutral and added the punch and added sparkle and detail back where my old Marantz was lacking. Your assessment of the slightly narrower sound stage is also accurate. That’s something I would like to improve upon with my next integrated amp. Thanks for your nice review of the Atoll IN200 Signature. I've had one for a few years, coupled with Dali Opticon 5 and a Mofi Ultradeck turntable. I am very happy with the result and love listening to vinyl. My IN200 Signature has an AKM4490 DAC and I also have the CD200 Signature CD player which has a Burr-Brown PCM1792 chip. My problem is that I don't enjoy listening to my CDs and dematerialized music as much as I enjoy listening to my vinyl. I bought a Musician Pegasus external DAC that I had to return because I had problems with the USB connection and my MacBook Pro. I liked the sound, subjectively I listened more often to my CDs (maybe a placebo effect!?!). I am currently looking to buy another external DAC, either the Aune S8 or the Denafrips Pontus II. Considering that you have tested the Atoll, do you think that one of these two DACs could improve my pleasure of listening to my CDs and dematerialized music? Again, congratulations for your audiophile reviews and don't hesitate to tell me frankly what you think about them! Have a great day. Pierre Thibault, Montreal, Canada

Hi BA: Another fine, insightful review. Indeed, the Atoll 'IN-200 Signature' is an unusually (very) well-built piece of kit at this price point -and no less manufactured in France. You mentioned the 'INT-200 Sig's' bass performance as a bit "lean". Although I have not audiotioned/examined this Integrated amplifier it may very well be that it is engineered to have very high-resolution low-frequency performance. Low frequency amplifying colorations typically present as "robust" bass; ultimately obscuring upper bass/lower midrange clarity/tonaility. Such LF colorations are so universal that many take for granted that "that's the way it's supposed to sound" -which of course is not the case. Superior LF performance is fast, detailed, tight/taught -as you claim the INT-200 Sig. to be. This carries over to a (highly desirable) transparent lower mid-band, the result being excellent clarity -most notable on vocals, or electric bass guitar for example. Naturally, when reviewing any components performance/SQ, the ancillary equipment used in the evaluation is of paramount consideration. And this can be as rudementary as the mere selection of connecting cable -as cable changes can and often have a profound impact on sound quality. Of course, loudspeaker/source selection also contrbutes significantly. I was pleased that you took the time to evaluate te internal build quality of the Atoll IN-200 Sig. -it does speak volumes to the care/crafsmanship of a product. And here, the company deserves high praise indeed. In any case, a fine review. Well done ! pete jasz

@@abritishaudiophile7314 great video as always. Try and get a YBA A200 Heritage or A100 to test, it’s around the £1.5-1.9k bracket. Be super interested to hear your thoughts. I love my YBA, I’ve dropped it into a Lampizator/Coincident Pure Reference system based on RealHifi’s advice and it’s phenomenal. I think you will be blown away...

@@reshkenn6091 thank you. I was due to review the A200 but they had some supply chain issues during Covid. I need to follow up when the schedule clears 😊👍

Tarun hi. I own Kef LS50 META'S and, until now, I've used them with a Moon i3 amp. However I'm waiting for delivery of Atoll Pre and Power amps 200 signature after hearing the Atolls in a shop in Edinburgh. Im hoping the Metas are a good match. 🤞🎶🎼🎵

Tarun hi. After an 8 week wait I've finally received my Atoll200 Sig pre and power amps from France. They tell me the amps will improve in a few weeks but already I'm in love with these amps. The clarity in all areas is superb. Plenty power and depth and match really well with my LS50 Meta's. A very happy old man!! 👍🎵🎶🎼

Great review again Tarun. I wonder how the Marantz PM-8006 would perform in this category, it is supposed to be one of the better performance per buck Marantz amps.

nice review! Love my in200 signature (1 yr old without dac). I just upgraded my dac from Denafrips Ares2 to Venus2. Should I upgrade my in200 as well? Which model would you suggest? Thanks!
@abritishaudiophile73143 жыл бұрын
Thank you Leo. That DAC will need a better amp to get the most out of it. Which one depends on what speakers you choose, budget, taste, room setup and other factors. I would get the right speakers first 😊👍

@@abritishaudiophile7314 Is Denafrips Thallo power amp a good upgrade from Atoll IN200? By the way, my speaker is Elac Vela BS 403....thanks...

@@wumingwai I haven’t heard the Denafrips amps yet 😊
