Atoll IN400SE Amplifier Review ... this really surprised me!

I own the Atoll AM100 power amp, their smallest and least expensive. It's outstanding, especially the harmonic presentation: truth of timbre. Few solid state amps come close.

It’s hilarious, the size of the wires fixed to the inside of the binding posts, compared to the expensive hose size speaker cables that people attach to the outside.

​@@rongreen1538 The internal wiring is very short compared with the average run of speaker cables. There's also resistance, capacitance, induction and noise shielding to consider. Decent quality speaker cable doesn't have to cost a fortune and can maximise your sound quality. I take your point though that some of the highly expensive audio-jewellery cable gets a bit silly.

I owned one for a year… with Sonus Faber lumina v speakers very very good. Try this with tube preamp and that sounds for me the best with klipsch heresy 4 speakers… now I am back to full tubes with leben cs 600x and the same klipsch speakers….heaven in combo with vinyl off course…and a bluesound node 2i for background music….but the in400 se is a really very good amplifier.. a-b it with my friends Accuphase 600… and the in 400 is as good as that amp………nice revieuw..nice weekend from Holland…

Hi Phil I must admit I struggle with it’s looks , it’s just not balanced visually which would bug me . But it’s seems it’s ability outweighs its visual quality . I already have my system but if I was shopping for an amp this would definitely be on my list. It’s built like a tank and everything I’ve heard about Atoll is good. It took a little time but I do like the styling.

Fantastic review of the In400 its a powerhouse in a handsome polite chassis with excellent top level sound quality. Try the 400 series separates with the AM400 bridged to true monos they are shockingly good.

I have an Atol IN80SE and i love it dearly. Atoll was suggested by the local hifi shop i didn't know them but its really great

Atoll has always had a tradition of flair, regardless of what is currently trending. This particular design is too much of a statement for me. However, I've no doubt it is an awesome amplifier, as Atoll also has the reputation of making awesome amplifiers.

Duel mono? Wouldn't you need two transformers, essentially two power supplies in one case to be duel mono?

It has dual windings on the transformer going to separate power supplies for each channel. So technically a dual mono.

Not my bag. It looks ugly and to change the light colours is gimmicky. I'll stick with my Leema Acoustics amp, and only replace it with another Leema.

It's all so individual, and room and speaker dependent. I have been using a Leema Tucana 2 for some time; I only play vinyl and have recently replaced it with a pair of Graham Slee Proprius power amps running straight from the phono preamp which to me sounds much better in spite of being less than half the price. But I shouldn't really say they are 'better'- just more to my taste in the room and system.

​​@@TonyCottrell-iv2qv Absolutely. Hi-fi is so subjective. Personally couldn't live with that design, preferring a traditional box looking. This Atoll shape reminds me of a CD player called Inca Designs Katana. Look it up. As regards my Leema, had it years and have built the rest of my system around the amp - had years to get the sound just so. And my MK1 Pulse has a fantastic built-in phono stage and enough connectivity to cater for all my audio needs.

When the 400 series components are stacked, the design makes more sense, because then the whole system looks like a hill. Personally I'm more into classic looking hifi (Exposure etc). I don't even like a display on an amplifier. ;-)
