This 3 part series is the try reason why you should never stop learning. I’ve had studio one since studio one 2 was out. So by now I figure I’m Gandalf. Never heard of atom or this sq version and in feel like I’m learning as a kid again. Crazy good stuff. Will be buying!

one important thing is missing in SQ: fast switch thru presets in non-presonus-plugins (program change via midi) so you could click thru all the sounds without having to find every little arrow button in all the different synths. or am i missing something?

I used these three vids as a play-for-play walk-thru of my new Atom SQ. Though I've been poking around with MIDI stuff since MIDI and Opcode, back in the eighties, I couldn't have learned this controller without these tutorials. Perhaps they weren't meant as tutorials, but they certainly are that! I now feel confident enough with my SQ to write (or mix) most anywhere I need to go. I can even see myself eventually offering feature requests. ;-) Thanks, Gregor. Good show!

Glad to see someone else who remembers Opcode. I miss Vision. I've migrated to Ableton, but I just got one of these and it's not going well. Are you shocked at the number of people who do sequencing these days? Up until 6 months ago, I could count on one hand the number of people I knew who used a DAW. Now I can go on Twitch and there's one guy that has over 100k viewers. 200 people every week compete in the beat battle. I'm blown away. Glad to see you've transitioned to Studio One and are making music

How's the SQ after two months ?

@@Sweyn_Nero really good! It's an /okay/ controller for normal use (more that S1's sequencing isn't that smooth) but the editing stuff is nice. The best thing so far has been use as a standalone controller with the Analog Four. The mod/pitch/aftertouch/velocity responses are actually awesome and super useable with hardware, and it's nice to have an arp that has a hold function (unlike the A4)

@@nkozi Nice, I'm basically a music production noob for now, as I've dabbled in S1 for half a year now. Would you say the Atom SQ might be a help to get more creative compared to let's say, a standard midi keyboard ? I wanna make game music, kinda weird music like Metroid for instance.

A cheat sheet for setting up the commands for the vocal chop example, would be helpful to me. I know you said, move the destination, move the source and hit the arrow till it goes yellow, for GUI controls we can see. But add slice, jump to slice, sound like pre-existing keyboard shortcuts to me. So a cheat sheet to what they are, seems helpful?

Question: when you’re working with editing a sample, can you move the start and end markers using the encoder nobs on the sq? I enjoy the workflow on the maschine. It’s much faster than having to use the mouse and curser to edit a slice. If you can do this with the sq, I’m getting it. If not, it’s pointless for me

Is it just me or do others find the encoders unusable as well? They are jumpy and not very responsive, it is impossible to do a filter sweep with it. I think this issues could easily be resolved with a firmware update but I'm afraid that it will never happen. I'm going to sell mine, I purchased this to replace my other midi controllers and use the Atom SQ as my solo controller, but now I need my Midi Fighter Twister as a secondary controller next to it which defeats the purpose of having the Atom SQ as my solo midi controller. Disappointed!

Awesome video! is there a way to set the 16 buttons as markers so i can go through an arrangement live on the fly/?

Ideally I could change arrangement sections order with a foot controller just to have more control of where choruses verse etc are.

I Don't have it but I think Presonus should add ABCD letters to each of the top row of buttons to allow for naming tracks Etc.

I really think Presonus should do a series on how producers are using SQ in their workflows using S1, similar to Ableton's Push series. This would be a huge benefit to the community and help sell more SQs and S1s.

Well, is gives you more classic finger drumming interface. Additional knobs. You can set up the pads for any function / macro you want.

What I learned so far is that the Atom SQ has all the functionality of the Atom, plus extras. Only added value of the Atom over the Atom SQ would be the larger pads for finger drumming. That’s about all.

I cannot speak for anything other than Studio One as I only use my Atom and SQ with that daw but the encoders work without issue. Have you not returned it for a replacement?
