Also, identity change is key. Ex: don't say "I'm gonna read lots of books", say "I am a reader". This makes setting goals not seem rigid and it'll make it easier to mold daily habits based on personal preference of certain materials.

Using.Atomic habits, i am on day 29 of getting up at 5am, exercise 20 min, meditation 20 min and learning 20 min. Once I understood sharma's protocol, i used atomic habits to actually make it happen. This is by far and I mean by far the best author on habits. Clear and concise. I read his book 12 months ago as couldn’t be motivated to The gym. I am totally transformed by remaining consistent and understanding the 1% rule. Even though you can’t see it happening daily I would normally lose motivation. Just never give up. I continually go back to the book as it is so inspiring for me.

This theory has been discussed in Bhagwad Geeta A Hindu holy book as "Law of KARMA" where lord Krishna says to Arjuna ( who was indecisive regarding participating in the war against evil as many members of his own family were there in evil group). Krishna says a Mantra "Karmaney wadhikaraste ma faleshu Kadachna..... which says focus on your "karma" means your duty not on the "fal"- the fruits.....which may follow automatically n those are not in the domain of your rights. Such an amazing theory! relevant even today n described in the book "The Atomic habbits" by this author so well.

I live a life based on the movie Groundhog Day. Every day is not a, "new day," but rather an opportunity to do my day over again. This is the day that the Lord has made. Not yesterday, or tomorrow. In God's economy of time, there is now, and there is not-now. Now is all that matters, and today is the only day that truly exists in REALITY. So, I have not prayed every morning for... (time length) but rather... I prayed this morning.

I like how he approaches motivation. We often think we need to wait until we're "motivated enough" to move forward in a positive direction. Or wait until fear about taking action dissipates. In reality, doing anything that nudges us in the right direction--no matter how small the act or step--is a way to nurture the growth of more motivation and gain more courage. 5:05 is an awesome quote: "The actions that you take provide evidence for who you are." It's another way of saying the old truth "actions speak louder than words".

"If you can change your habits you can change your life". But if you are really struggling to change your habits, don't despair - you are not broken, and I know things can get better. I don't know your situation, but mine was that I needed safe connection (for me it was therapy, though it could be anyone, even pets) to start to discover who I am and to break out of the cycle of anxiety and low self-esteem from years of playing the golden-child role. For so long I thought I was broken, because no matter how hard I pushed I couldn't even do two minutes of a habit I wanted, but now that I'm more healed I've returned to habits. I make my bed every morning. I tidy up before bed. Small habits, but I'm just getting started again.

It all started with dengue followed by complicated internal defects and lead to to 3 major surgeries in 1.5 year of time. I was so out of my habit and I was trying so hard to maintain a regular habit but I was unable to do so. Imp points to n noted here 1)make if then plan .. 2)make environment that shapes us in that way 3)the more reps u put in , the more likely u end up achieving that. 4)reward yourself in present. For eg measuring progress that u did. 5)go step by step .. no need to change all over suddenly.(to change identity gradually).

This is one of the most concise deliveries of the cornerstone to changing your behaviors, your confidence, and your internalized identity that I’ve seen. I’ve studied the published science around behavior change and influence, including the psychology of sales, persuasion, and performance. James Clear has distilled the foundational principles of them here. The train goes both ways however. If you act a certain way, you will see yourself as that way, and Vice versa, if you see yourself a certain way, you will act that way. It’s congruence between identity and action where we feel comfortable. But to change you have to go through the discomfort of misalignment between actions and identity. And the only way to make this bearable is to start small, and as you act, or think, your identity and actions will shift to becoming who you want to be. Confidence will build, and the discomfort will go away.

5:55. Dr. Phil says it better. The way we develop an opinion about ourselves is the same way we develop an opinion of others: by observing. For example, somebody comes to work early, does more work than anybody else, leaves late. We say they’re hard working. If they do the opposite, we say they’re lazy. If we do a great thing we will assign a high value on ourself and when we don’t do anything and mull around our opinion on ourselves dwindles.

When I first saw him in video , I was carefully checking the scar in his forehead because in his childhood his classmate had brutally fractured his skull with a baseball bat. Good to see that he doesn't have that scar anymore. Just finished reading Atomic Habits. What a great book it is.

So good! I love what he said but I also think he reminds me of things that I learned from Gretchen Ruben over 15 years ago and I wonder if he was inspired by her as well.

This guy really understand the human mind, I agree with a ton of what he is saying. As someone who has dealt with serious depression and lack of motivation, it has taught me a ton about what drives people, and he is spot on. But having that knowledge, doesn't mean you can overcome it.
