My wife is Puerto Rican, and for Christmas every year, she makes something a little similar to eggnog called coquito. It's got evaporated milk, condensed milk, coconut cream, coconut milk, sugar, cinnimon, and rum. No eggs, and no cooking, but it is fantastic. Coconutty, boozy, sweet and delicious. Every family in PR has their own recipe with their own ratios, and the argument over which rum to use runs generations deep. You should give making it a try, I think you'd like it.

Funny story! I heard of people putting spices in their hot chocolate so I tried my luck last weekend and I did something very close to your recipe. We are vegan, so instead of milk, cream and eggs, I put a bit of starch in my oatmilk to thicken it, same spices (except ginger) but amount might have varied a bit. And I remarked that it tasted a bit like eggnog and added a dash of amaretto. Felt very festive :D Lidl has a brand of oatmilk that has close to zero oat flavor, so if you want to cheat a bit (no risk of burning the milk, no tempering, just jug it all in the pot), I can highly recommend it!

Another nostalgic moment here.... When I was a child, my mom sometimes treated me with real homemade hot chocolate, and it was always done with cream and milk mix, and with eggs. And with some whipped cream on the top. - It was far better than the O'boy or Nesquik with just milk. - I think I'll have to treat myself with this here during the holidays. Thanks for a reminder! 🍵❄

Black forest gateau is one of the only sweet things( apart from mint) that I dont like, I like all the components separately and i like cherries and cream, and chocolate and cream, Its the Chocolate and cherries that i dont like. I know people say that the acid in the cheriies cuts through the richness of the chocolate. But i like the richness. I like chocolate and orange because its normally the oily part of orange not the acidic part of orange.

Looks fantastic, although as somebody who hates Black Forest Gateau (because of the cherry brandy) the addition of the Cherry Brandy 'ruined' it for me. Not a problem though, to each his/her own - easy enough to omit that brandy. 🙂 (I'd also omit the cream, just have this as a chocolate drink - but we're all different and there's nothing wrong with that). Shame about the camera's lousy autofocus, I've noticed it from time to time on other videos too. Maybe you could treat yourself to a better one for Christmas? 🙂

The recipe I based this on had measurements in cups, so I started there. I prefer to work in metric weights and volumes, as do probably some people watching, which is why you saw me weighing the cream and milk after filling the cup measures.
@MisterM24022 күн бұрын
That's the trouble with living in the UK and mostly using metric measurements in the kitchen, so many recipes online are American with imperial measurements. So you either need to spend time converting everything or you just try and go with it. Sometimes a mix is easiest - bulk dry ingredients like flour or chopped vegetables are easier to convert to grams and weigh on a scale, whereas liquids like milk and cream are simple enough to measure in cups and get the same amount each time (no worrying about how densely your flour is packed into the cup!). For small dry ingredients like salt, spices, dried yeast, etc. I think most people would use measuring spoons like the US unless the amounts needed to be more precise.
@AtomicShrimp2 күн бұрын
The worst is cups of butter - in the USA, butter is sold with cup markings on the packs, but not here - the only way to measure butter in cups here is to smoosh it into the cup or melt it, or look up a conversion (which sort of underlines the point that weighing it is just simpler)
