subscribed. currently learning this stuff and you've inspired me massively. I can make assets but having a good eye for level design I am slowly learning is a complete other thing! well done man... gunna have a video watching binge on this channel tomorrow
@Tomble8 жыл бұрын
Thanks man that's good to hear :) Yeah an eye for composition is really important. I tried to explain this level here a little bit over here: www.therookies.co/tools-techniques/how-to-make-a-game-more-immersive/ Also some things on light,color, composition & edge direction :) It's really important how to present your work.

I'm trying to learn level design for game development. I am fine making my own meshes and textures, but the problem is that I don't know how to plan everything. Do you draw a sketch or do you just build level off the top of your head ?
@Tomble7 жыл бұрын
usually just off the top of my head for these videos. For environments that you do the models for yourself I'd recommend looking at some concept artists work and see if anything appeals to you that you'd like to recreate. Block it out and then populate it with your assets. layer by layer add more detail :)

where did you get the assets from ?

Probably worth noting that there's usually a difference between creating a layout like you see in most of these "speed level design"-type videos, where the sole purpose is making it look pretty for the final render and creating a layout that works well from a gameplay perspective, if you are actually planning to use it in a game. A really good starting point is to recreate parts of levels from games you like, whether it be through detailed replication or just the general layout. It's also important to remember the perspective from which the level will be viewed. Not everything needs to look good from all sides.

Awesome work! I have a question, I'm currently working on a game and making my own models for it. Things are looking good, but the walls are looking a bit... plain, I guess. Like, there's not much atmosphere to it, the rooms don't really seem... Full. Any ideas? I'm currently adding dirt and grunge decals to walls to give them a bit of variability, and that seems to be working quite well!
@Tomble7 жыл бұрын
+Pulse/Krilium Hey man sorry I don't know why KZbin didn't notify me for the past 2 months about any comments so I am kind of catching up. It really depends on what the focus should be. Maybe it's not a bad thing to have rather plain walls if your focus is elsewhere. If you want to go as detailed as possible add pipes, cables, rims, whatever can be on a wall to break it up
@HashtagPULSE7 жыл бұрын
Pipes! That's a good idea! I've made a splineBP for cables, they can be trailing around where needed, I'll go and add some pipes without over-doing it. Thanks dude!

Amazing work....hi I'm new to unreal...how did you get that viewport in the left corner... :)
@Tomble7 жыл бұрын
You place a camera in your scene and then press the little pin button in the viewport that appears when you select that camera to keep it pinned on top. It's also going to impact performance while building your scene since it requires the scene to be rendered twice

Hi, i am new in this area i want to know how did u make the animation rotation in the Ventylation....!
@Tomble8 жыл бұрын
I didn't, but you could simply animate it in your 3D software like amaya and export it as a skeletal mesh or have the fan as a single asset and use a rotator on it.

+ooParanoia How do you start out before creating a level? What goes into the research and where do you get inspiration from? Do you create some of the elements from scratch yourself? I think it would be interesting to see the whole process - you could do a video.
@Tomble8 жыл бұрын
+Kasper Rubin Hey I usually Stream on Twitch as I do these Videos so if you are interested try to catch me there :) I usually have some Idea in my mind before I start, but for 2 episodes I worked with references (The Bridge one and the desert Fortress) Just some random Pics and concepts I found in the interwebs.
@Tomble8 жыл бұрын
+Kasper Rubin Oh and I usually only use what I already have. Consisting of assetpacks and my own Assets made from scratch depending on the scene, but I don't create Assets just for these Videos, since I try to keep the workload crisp :) After all I am mainly working on warhalla right now.
