Excellent job on this video. For the past 4 days I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this legalize function between sony Fx3, Atomos Ninja, and my FCPX workflow. Your first video explained a lot but I was still confused when and how I should use legalize. The other day, I discovered that when i turned on legalize, the EL Zone was disabled. That really shooked me again. So your tutorial and explanation was right on time. Thank you for the excellent explanation. I think the only question I have is that, Is the sLog output being received into the Atomos at a “Full” signal? Additionally, with using the EL Zone system with the sLog, how will FCPX interpret the signal? As full or legal?

atomos records only video levels. if you use davinci, you can change the clip attributes to full. not that easy with fcpx. I would suggest to record proresraw for a better fcpx workflow

@@thehumancamcorder9326 My camera is Sony FX30. This camera applies crop when shooting RAW. So it has very limited usage scenario. Normally I would use S-log3 and record ProRes 422 on Atomos Ninja V. But this seems not good for Final Cut Pro X then. What would you advise?

@@jacek5384 use el zone system just to appreciate the exposure. just before the recording, turn it off, and use the legalize toggle on. that will make things fine for your fcpx

I wondering if you close the aperture EL Zone would show you the crushed dark parts in black. Some people are mention that can´t get the the crushed dark parts in black.

I have found that to achieve a useful ProResRaw clip I have to over expose an 18% grey target by +4 stops (red on the EL Zone system). If I don’t the image is too dark plus I can’t view the scene on my Ninja monitor. Does anyone else have this issue ?

thank you , you are too kind. Just set your canon camera to log and then choose the same log format in the Ninja menu. el system only works for log format. then, follow the color code. the ninja will automatically find the middle grey and show you all other tones in regard to the middle grey. easy peasy. have a good day
