Thank YOU! Your encouraging words mean so much to me and I truly hope you find success in your treatment. You may already be aware of the differences in cost, but you mentioned raising funds and I'm curious if you're pursuing intravenous infusion or intramuscular/subcutaneous. Either way it can be expensive, but IV is far more so. I had this conversation recently with my doctor, who recently found himself removed from the Ketamine Advocacy Network, no doubt because he offers IM and Subq injections. The Ketamine Advocacy Network recently changed their site and now advises against IM and Subq and pretty much pushes IV exclusively. Their reasoning behind this seems to be the notion that you cannot ensure proper dosing with IM injection, a notion with which my doctor wholeheartedly disagrees. The rest of their rationale seems to rely on patients saying they didn't like it or had a bad experience. Limiting patients to intravenous infusions only, makes this a far more exclusive treatment and when basing this on seemingly opinion based criteria, that to me is reckless thinking, especially when lives are on the line. IV requires more staff, more monitoring, greater insurance costs, etc. It can easily cost 4 or 5 times that of an IM or subq injection. I have found all my success through subcutaneous injections and my doctor has administered over 2000 treatments (if I remember right) to a wide array of patients with varying conditions with amazing results. Just something to think about if you are saving for an intravenous treatment. Intravenous has it's upsides, but cost is not one of them. Again, thank you so much for your kind words! I'm not going to lie. The cost of even a single ketamine treatment is pretty discouraging because this is my last hail mary. I've had 20 rounds of ect, numerous involuntary inpatient stays, IOP programs and I can't think of a single medication that I have not tried other than the outdated meds. Your article was very helpful though. It sounds like riluzole works similarly to ketamine. it's just a matter of finding a doctor that will prescribe that bc it sounds like it's used off label for depression? I'm also considering signing up for the clinical trial. I too am not necessarily looking to achieve happiness. Only relief from unrelenting pain.
