In this film breakdown, we take a look at Seattle Seahawks rookie CB Devon Witherspoon, who got his first start in Week 2 vs. the Lions. Witherspoon played tight coverage and had a few really nice plays, including a 4th down PBU. Minus getting burnt for a flea-flicker TD (which the entire Seattle defense fell for), he played as well as you'd expect for the 5th overall pick. As a whole though, Witherspoon is playing up to his draft slot, and if the Seahawks can get him and Tariq Woolen on the field at the same time, they very well could have the best CB duo in football.

That no call was catchable, but they didn’t wanna call it as DPI because they weren’t tangled hand to hand, they were just tripped up together when he was keeping up with him. If he had fallen while grabbing him or shoved him, then i think they would’ve called it, but otherwise I was so glad they didn’t just give him another DPI cause it allows the CB to play more physical and shadow the Receiver instead of always having to give them 5+ yards because of fear they will get called every time. Although he got caught on the trick play, I think he had a hell of a game.

That 4th and 2 no call was the right call because that throw was a clear over throw. The receiver had no chance of catching that pass.

I think he got burned on the touchdown play because he was too anxious to make an impact. Rookies, am I right? He fell for the run ruse and it was all over. I don't think he'll ever make that mistake again, though. Other than that, he seems lockdown and I think in the next year or two he'll be considered one of the best DB's in the league.

Dude. Everyone on the Seahawks defense fell for it bro. Witherspoon can’t get all the blame for allowing that touchdown. Sure it was his man but everyone was preparing to tackle after the hand off.

@@Aneeshtherave Not everyone, only Witherspoon and Diggs. The front 7, as u said was ready to make the tackle, as they should, they were in position to do their job. The corner and safety bit. It was corners man, safety should be ready to help, but he bit too. Quit making excuses for a badly defended play.

He definitely plays the wr close and doesn't leave much room. He got beat on a flea flicker but he's a rookie. Give him some time.

Damn there's absolutely no pass rush going on on these snaps. If we're gonna have a chance in any of these remaining games we have to either trade for somebody or figure something out cause the the pass rush is non-existent.

I think Mike Morris will turn out amazing for us at DT once he gets healthy and fully back next year. So damn excited to see someone 6’6 305 lbs and IN SHAPE playing interior DLine for us… We never needed Jalen Carter or Tyree Wilson. We got some guys and we’ll find more

Jalen Carter is more of a run defender. Our pass rush is a problem but it is easily fixable. Also we need Devon simply because besides Woolen, our other db’s aren’t that great in coverage.

i wouldn't say superstar potential. but he definitely played way better than most people think. he 100% could become a superstar, but i feel like after one game you can't really say "this guy is gonna be a legend" or not. he certainly played well though, even the flea flicker I don't knock him for, that's not a play that's called often and it being his debut i would imagine he had way to many things going through his head to be able to properly assess what was happening.

If anything, watching this tape makes me tired of all this soft zone coverage mixed together with a pretend 3-4 front. Several of those plays had bad defensive scheme fits based on what the Lions were doing. In addition, Spoon ain’t the only one to bite on that Flea Flicker. His behavior seems more like he was expecting Diggs to be over top so he felt he had some freedom to cover the underneath/run fit. A lot of this will get solved by them simply playing together and learning the habits of the other db’s. Thomas made a bunch of errors in his first couple years. Pete’s system really pushes the mental capacity of that deep safety and their ability to cover ground. Similarly, I’ve always liked Tre but he just hasn’t gotten the reps to iron out his game. Give Woolen, Diggs, and Spoon some time together and they could be great. If Adam’s plays to his potential as a Strong then all we need to do is fix that slot corner spot……Colby is not the answer. 😅 I actually like them using him as a safety in the preseason. It definitely seems to better match his skill set. That, or as a backup outside corner. Slot is not the answer.

He made some nice plays, but getting beat deep negated it. Fundamental for any corner at all levels, don't let your guy get behind you. On run plays, trust front 7 to make the play, don't bite and stick with your guy.

Bro what are you talking about it was a flee flicker the RB visibly got the ball and pressed the line of scrimmage and tossed it back to the QB. A flee flicker is meant to pull everyone in. People acting like it was a play action.

@@ID0XX What are u talking bout bro? Doesn't matter if it was play action or flea flicker, trust your front 7, never ever let your guy get behind you, period. Why are u making excises for giving up a TD?? The corner has one primary job, "do your job".

@@HansMcGruberliterally everyone fell for that play bro. It wasn’t just Witherspoon. I mean most times teams tried flea flickers, it worked for long gains and even touchdowns. It is useful to confuse the defenders and gain long yardage.

@@Aneeshtherave Correct but in cover 3 both corners and the safety have to play pass first (Quandre as a vet should know better) so fundamentals just got lost there. Fact that the only really big play he let up in his debut was a trick play I'm confident he'll be a stud.
