I've dated a woman who was like this. She wasn't nearly this bad, but the same mentality is there. People who have these types of delusions are not too different from conspiracy theorists. Drawn in with the idea that they know some secret knowledge that everyone else is either too dumb or too blind to see. Any small thing is seen as confirmation of their belief and all evidence against is twisted to either not matter or actually be evidence for why they are right. On the face of it, it is main character syndrome (i.e. "I'm the only one who knows the truth, I'm the only one who predicted this!") but it's also deeper than that. These people tie their ego and identity so closely with their special power/perception that they simply can not admit they're wrong. If they admit they are wrong then they would have a full blown identity crisis. So much of their life and what they "know" would be shattered. Life would simply seem so much more dull to them as well. No magic. No conspiracy. Just life. Just like cult mentality, it would have to be unlearned slowly, but doing that is a very difficult, long process.

Honestly, my mother is schizophrenic and instead of getting help she went her whole life believing she was psychic. I'll let you imagine the kind of crazy abusive life I've had before cutting ties at 40. Last time I spoke to her, she wanted to sue me for one of the times I had her hospitalized after she took pills and booze and made Facebook posts that alluded to unaliving herself. Mind you, she told the Dr in the ER that the voices would tell her to drive into the ditch while she had my kids in her car. I was so shocked, the Dr saw my face and asked more questions so I'd have proof never to leave my kids with her again. But I felt both finally justified in my battle with her illness and her claims a and horrified. She had never before admitted her voices told her to do shit like that. I was with my ex and kid'a father for 15+yrs. Until he shoved our daughter punched me and then put me in a choke hold a minute away from blacking out. This is wrong. There is no cap on damages. The lawsuit is for at least $75,000 because that is the jurisdictional minimum for a diversity jurisdiction case in federal court. In the prayer for relief, the professor is asking for damages to be determined at trial. Also, the psychic could be on the hook for hundreds of thousands in legal fees once she's ordered to pay the professor's fees.
