Fun fact about Sylvia Browne that's not fun at all: A young girl called Amanda Berry was kidnapped in 2003. It was one of those massive stories when I myself was growing up and it dominated the newsreel for a long time. Sylvia Browne came on The Montel Show a year later and told Amanda's mother, still searching for her child, that the girl had been killed. Amanda's mom died a couple years after that and loved ones said Sylvia's words just ate away at her hope. Fast forward like a decade and Amanda, now a woman with her kidnapper/r*pist's child, alongside two other kidnapped victims, were all found alive in 2013, having been kept imprisoned by some sicko in a boarded-up house for over a decade. Amanda later spoke about her heartbreak watching that episode when it aired during her captivity and seeing her poor mother break down at Sylvia's "predictions". Amanda had believed Sylvia would "see" that she was still alive and that it would give her mother hope. Instead, she had to watch, helpless, as her mother cried on national TV in utter despair, and there was nothing Amanda could do to comfort her. Her mom died never knowing her daughter was in fact still alive. Her mom died thinking her child had suffered a horrific death and that she had failed as a mom to protect her. Even after the joy of freedom, Amanda never got to hold or say goodbye to her mom and will live with that loss for the rest of her life, kind of like how her mom lived with the believed loss of Amanda in her remaining years. So, no, I hope Sylvia is NOT resting in peace. This wasn't some misled good Samaritan. She didn't do charity. All her services came with a high fee. That old fraud made a fortune preying on the desperation of grieving families, just throwing out bullshit predictions without caring what sort of psychological damage she was inflicting on already fragile souls in their darkest hours.
@Christina_Broccolini
@Christina_Broccolini Жыл бұрын
Amanda’s life was literally nothing but pain and torture for years on end until she escaped. If Sylvia had said, “Hey lady, your daughter is being tortured and r8ped by a psycho who has her trapped in his house,” would that have really been any better? Like yea, sure Sylvia was a fraud, but you’re not really making the point you think you’re making here. 😂
@enigmadrath1780
@enigmadrath1780 Жыл бұрын
@@Christina_Broccolini You're the one who missed the point. Sylvia knew NOTHING about Amanda's situation but took advantage of her mother's desperation and just made shit up. You implying that she DID know the truth but thought it kinder to lie and say flat out she was dead? What would have been better would have been her not preying on vulnerable people desperate for answers, period.

"If you wanna talk to a dead person just talk to anyone. We're all dead, just not yet" is actually good advice. Talk to your friends and the people you love, and have fun with them while they're here rather than waiting to try to do those things after they're gone. Death is inevitable for not only yourself, but also those you care about, so try to show them eternity's worth of love now while they're still here.

When I moved out of my mom's house, I moved to a prison town, and obviously, my parents were a little freaked out. A couple months later, I texted my mom one night. I set up this exact joke as if it was real, and she thought autocorrect nerfed my ass and that I meant to say "psychotic," not "psychic." So I let her get concerned, and then I hit her with the punchline and have been laughing at it from my house in a prison town for 3 years now lmao

there was this "psychic” in the mall one day that told me I had a depressed aura, and there was someone that I lost recently that had something to say to me that would make me feel whole again, and I needed to step outside w/ her to have this convo in silence. Given that my aunt died a week before bc cancer, I was rlly fucking sad, so I followed her outside the mall… turns out she just wanted to kidnap me 🤭 And yeah, I never believed in any psychic service again.

yup, i have a minor in psychology and they rip astrology, personality tests, and mediums/psychics, there is no scientific evidence that proves that ghosts are real as well as having psychic abilities. "good psychics" aka the ones that tend to seemingly get a lot of things correct (such as the one that kurtis had on his podcast) are not actually psychic but use some pretty clever social psychology tricks. Basically if you say things confidently and vaguely enough those things can be applied to just about anyone (barnum effect) you too can be a "psychic" lol and whenever they get anything wrong they may gaslight you or try to say that they were "reading someone else in the room" or pin point it on something else (other than themselves making the mistake). They are tricky scammers.

@@JingoCrochet random but do they do lie detector tests too? They talked about how bs lie detector tests are in my psych class in college and it was eye opening. Also the study where people were told they were shocking people but kept doing it bc the dr told them it was ok is one of my favorite studies of all time that shows how maleable humans really can be. I admit after my dad died I visited a few mediums. Doesn’t matter if it’s real or not, it was just a weird sort of comfort at that time. The difference was they told me about me and didn’t try to crap all over the tragedy by telling me about how my dad died or what he was thinking. It was much more about how I can find strength and comfort in my future endeavors. That’s how the experience should be. I feel so so bad for people who gave this horrible person money. EDIT Lmao at all the hate and stuff. You guys can’t piece together my whole experience from one paragraph. This was like.. a month after he died and I have been attending therapy. Also I didn’t actively seek out the mediums. They happened to be at events I was attending or services were offered by friends of mine. Yes it was probably a placebo effect, I didn’t put my entire existence on the line of what a medium said. It was purely for fun to try to redirect my brain to something more positive. Thank you for the positive responses. I assure you I’m not worried about the negative ones. I acknowledge how silly it sounds to go to a medium. I acknowledge that I also needed therapy to get through that time, which I did get. I’m actually living in my dream location and working an amazing job now. My grief is still there but the worst is far behind me :) TLDR you guys better call a medium for me because I’m dying at the astonishing jump to conclusions people had about my situation and beliefs in these responses 😂😂😂

Along the same lines, theres the TikTok psychic that is getting sued for claiming she knew who committed the Idaho murders. She said tarot cards told her it was a history professor at the college and posted her picture. Even after they arrested the alleged killer, she was still going strong and doubling down. Soooo interested to see how that does it court!

I honestly don’t think she was even a psychic. I’m pretty sure she just looked up Rebecca Schofield on the University of Idaho’s website, and used her “psychic” abilities to create twilight-fan fiction about the murders, while accusing an innocent woman in the process
@killakates
@killakates Жыл бұрын
@@calebreese2311 oh 100% agree. She said she looked at her tarot cards and kept hearing the word “history”. Looked at the university website and the head of history dept is Rebecca. Also dragged Kaylee’s ex, Jack, into the whole mix as well. I feel for both of them. I can’t imagine someone just literally picking you from a website, at random, and saying you committed four horrific murders of young people. The frustration and anger and embarrassment! I can’t really watch her tik toks bc it’s so off the rails but I do know she doubled down after Brian was arrested. And says she can’t wait to show her “evidence” in court. I can’t wait either

I feel like there are psychics who market themselves in a way that isnt dangerous or bad. It is probably pretty cathartic to speak to an empathic stranger. If you have a good sense of people, you could infer if someone has had a big change in their life, struggling, or what not. Sometimes people need a guide to reflect on their life. I struggle with identifying my own emotions and what's causing them. If someone pulls a card and asks them about change or fear or something, it can allow that person to think about their life in that lens and possibly come to a new conclusion. Mediums who actively prey on grieving families, make promises they can't keep, and exploit mentally ill people are dangerous. Not all mediums are inherently dangerous. I think about mediums and psychics the same way I think about chiropractors. If you know the limits of your practice, you can make a big difference in someone's life, but you can also make things worse. These aren't inherently exploitative jobs, but there are people in these professions who are exploiting their clients.

Tarot cards are pretty great for skeptics and you don’t have to be “psychic,” for them. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you this, but for other readers, each individual card has a meaning. Eight of cards meaning self victimization, the moon being intuition, the eight of pentacles meaning working hard, etc. Everyone who comes to a reader, comes with a situation in mind, and the cards basically just give an unbiased third party perspective that you may not have considered by yourself. That’s all. Nothing about it has to be magic, it doesn’t have to be read by a psychic, they’re not all powerful. Tarot readers (most of them) are like the most valid and least scammy of “psychics.” Lol. It doesn’t have to be real or fake.

Dude, I’ve watched psychic lives and seen a “psychic” take $30 from a woman struggling with infertility and she told her that she was gonna get pregnant and have a miscarriage. I was disgusted.

I have an aunt who used to do psychic stuff as a party tricks (tea leaves, tarot cards, reading palms etc.) and when I asked her where she learned all that she just said "Oh I just made it all up". Turns out she was just bullshitting for fun, she never charged anyone, it was just a hobby
