If you have enough people and land, even at your retirement age you could pull this off. There are entire channels and most of them are middle aged to older people who talk about off grid living and how to wire solar panels, plumping, etc. It's fascinating really how creative people are-

Most people who do off grid living started when they are young id say 20's - 40's is when most get into it and at that age you are still able to almost everything a 20 year old can do work wise. now at age 60, unless you are really fit and been working out your whole life. youll need a lot of help to start from the ground up at that age.

If the fine is for keeping fish without a license i'd agree he's in the clear on that (unless his videos show him filleting something like a smallmouth which you cant purchase). Typically with these fishing cases if you show remorse and you're not a repeat offender its a slap on the wrist.

While unfortunate, this country is over 200 years old. The vast majority of the states, someone owns the land you’re standing on. This guy admits to taking rocks from an active train track (undermining its infrastructure). And as an avid hiker, you don’t move anything in the woods if you can because it’s part of that eco system. Fishing licenses help control overfishing. This guy also admits that he gave up on getting the license before, meaning he knowingly broke the law, which is why the fines probably so high. This guy has good intentions but at the end of the day they just service his own enjoyment regardless of his impact on the ecosystem.

I think the fines were so low bc the rangers saw his efforts to use what was around him and conserve as much as possible. He's got some learning to do but I'm super impressed with what he tried. Most people would bring man-made materials out to camp and he used mostly what was around him. As far as the fishing ticket, usually what is stated is the highest possible fee. Getting a license immediately shows he's trying so I'm sure it worked out.
