A good basic overview of ATP, but there are some important errors in this animation. First, a single organelle is a mitochondrion, not a mitochondrium. Next, the bonds between the phosphate groups are NOT high energy bonds. The energy released is only about 7.3 kCal per mole, but that is enough to get things done in the cell. Finally, ATP is not the only energy carrier molecule used by cells (GTP, NADPH, etc.), but it is the universal energy carrier molecule.

Unless you have a medical condition that requires these types of injections, it is unlikely that they will have any significant effect on your workouts. Recommend that you contact a medical doctor before you decide to do this.

Yeah, but how is the release energy received by whatever the recipient might be, then? A high energy bond is broken (by hydrolysis) and then what? Is there an universal mechanism for receiving? Specialized proteins? Something else?
@Hallands Menved specialized enzymes carry phosphate back to the ADP and then then by the process called phosphorylation, ATP is produced and the cycle goes on.

So does this basically means ADP is useless unable to give off energy without having those 3 phosphates complete? all or nothing?
@sanjeeva3110765 жыл бұрын
Krystelle de Leon ADP can be converted to AMP (adenosine monophosphate) releasing more energy but this is less important than the ATP to ADP cycle. AMP (or more correctly cyclical AMP) has significance as a signalling molecule within the cell, almost like an intracellular hormone. ATP is really interesting. Virtually every energy dependent process within every living organism is dependent on ATP so it is fundamental to life itself. In fact, there is a theory that life first developed in hydrothermal vents where a proton gradient was used to generate energy rich phosphates, similar to what happens within mitochondria. Mitochondria themselves were probably bacteria that entered into a symbiotic relationship with eukaryotes, hence why they have their own DNA distinct from the nuclear DNA. Mitochondrial DNA is only inherited from the mother, so it is useful for tracing maternal lines of inheritance.
@xplane11fan935 жыл бұрын
@Krystelle de Leon no, ADP can happen to be AMP which releases energy equivalent to 7.3kcal/mole.

If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15 KJV Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: Exodus 20:8-9 KJV Saturday is the day of the Lord The claim that Christ by his death abolished his Father’s law, is without foundation. Had it been possible for the law to be changed or set aside, then Christ need not have died to save man from the penalty of sin. The death of Christ, so far from abolishing the law, proves that it is immutable. The Son of God came to “magnify the law, and make it honorable.” [Isaiah 42:21.] He said, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law;” “till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in nowise pass from the law.” [Matthew 5:17, 18.] And concerning himself he declares, “I delight to do thy will, O my God; yea, thy law is within my heart.” [Psalm 40:8.] GC88 466.3 Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
