wait, this looks so cool. you can have survival players play against rts players? this could be actually insanely cool with friends and doing like a 1v5 or something edit: the base mod itself does not really support this, but I found a mod for the mod that allows survival players to team up with RTS players. the survival players are very good at collecting resources and can deal lots of aoe damage with snow bombs and some faction-specific equipment, but you're also nerfed and can't build or break most blocks anymore, to prevent cheesy strats like building above enemies or digging underground. you can still harvest resources though. also, there are player-made maps that have much better layouts, designed to fit the game more.

I tried it a few times but it's jank to set up so I think if atrioc does try this, he should probably let someone more tech-competent set it up, and they should do a test-run to make sure it works. I've had a plethora of issues getting the game to run and making the match start properly, but once it was finally running and a match had properly started, I didn't really encounter any major bugs. The two biggest issues are 1: making sure the datapack that modifies the RTS mod and creates the setup lobby works on the map you've chosen, and 2: making sure the version of Reign of Nether is compatible with the datapack. The datapack is out of date and apparently stopped updating when RoN was at 1.08, and it's now at 1.1.0. The map pack I downloaded has v46 of the datapack, but v49 is the latest version. Some people have managed to make these maps work by replacing the datapack with v49 and using 1.1.0, but when I try this nothing works. The best I've managed is getting v49 to work with 1.08. I think you could probably get away with going as far as 1.12 (not to be confused with MINECRAFT version 1.12, which you shouldn't be using. You need minecraft 1.19.2. I'm saying you could use Reign of Nether version 1.12, which is the last version before 1.1.0.)

update on my progress: I got the mod (the one that allows survival players to team up with RTS players) to work with the latest Reign of Nether version. The key was using a server to host the game instead of using the the mod essential to play online. Still, there can be complications. If you play on one of the maps designed for RTS like I mentioned, if you finish a match and want to play again you have to reset the entire map by loading a backup of the world, since any ore or trees you mine stay mined and never come back. Resetting the map usually requires shutting the server down to load the backup, which can take around 5 minutes. I have heard some server hosts have the technology to load a map without shutting down but I don't know any hosts that do that. And if you don't play on a map designed for it, then there is some finickyness with having to set up the survival player spawn points, so I highly recommend just using a map designed for this mod. The big benefit with the newest version is that there are /gamerule commands which make the game more interesting. One is /gamerule improvedPathfinding (or something like that, I don't remember the exact name) which gives mobs better pathfinding at the cost of more cpu usage on the server. /gamerule maxPopulation lets you change the absolute max population, and there is another command that adds fog of war. Another command allows survival players to break and place many blocks they couldn't, though if you play with this rule on make sure you're all on the same page to not abuse building/mining to cheese out the mobs. There are plenty of unfair strategies you can abuse if you allow players to build up in the air or dig underground. Edit: turns out the gamerule for allowing players to break everything is actually not functional because the mod that allows survival players to team up with rts players overrides this system and forces specific types of breakable blocks. it's fixable if you go into the datapack folder for the map, go into RONSR, find the function that runs every tick, scroll to the bottom, then remove the line that calls the "adventure" function. You can edit this file with notepad. Only do this if you want survival players to be able to break all blocks and place all blocks.

Sounds like a cool idea, but a much realistic approach is using the Villager Recruits mod and playing with a Mount and Blade style gameplay. What you're going with sounds unnecessarily complicated

in the other video he was talking about how the RTS genre needs to be innovated and the formula is stale, but every time he describes the games he's like "RTS games have an isometric view" you aren't going to innovate anything with that mindset. I'm not expecting Big A to invent StarCraft 4 but it's frustrating because if somebody did find a new innovative concept, it might get overlooked for being "too different". I wish he would describe the games in terms of what makes them fun to play

There is no room for innovation. RTS requires too much micro and leads to anxiety and toxicity. No one wants to play a game just to feel worse.

@@seksaouiabderraouf2531 How does your line of thinking make any sense? Do you play Minecraft because the creeper is your favorite character in media, and you own 1000 creeper plushies? Or because you enjoy, you know, mining or maybe crafting. Have you played it yourself? I haven't, but I have played other RTS games namely AOE, and I didn't see anything in this video that made this look like anything other than a Minecraft skinned version of any other RTS. And if that's enough for you to get invested, they don't argue and go enjoy. It isn't enough for me, hence my pondering.
