Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Great video. We switched to lower psi valve body check valves so they would all open under minimum pressure. That has helped so we can slow down around obstacles and so it is not a drag race to get all the tips to open on headlands. If I had a choice, I’d rather see the neighbor smoke a bit of our crop vs having giant rag take over our field borders. We also added air purge to our Hagie and it has helped with the atrazine in the booms. It did take a few parts, wiring harness and a dealer to program it. We added 2 smaller truck air tanks vs the JD air tank that was way over priced. Anyway, have a great day. Nice machine.

Your concern about keeping a clean fence row makes a lot of sense. I worried more about the possibility of drift going beyond just that point. My hagie has the factory air purge, which is a nice feature.

“Back in the day” we used field cultivators, no auto steer, let’s just say boss had times combining where he may have found a spot or 5 where I was not paying proper attention and wiped out 8 rows of corn for a couple feet.

Probably best to loose the fence post and go to Menards/H-D and get some 1 5/8"strut. This will open your world to all the fasteners and hardware to hold that piping in place.

@@aTrippyFarmer hey Andy with my banjo flow meter I have it so the screen is on a 45 degree so upward angle. I see yours it flat looking at you. I read that in the manual that is how you have to have it so magnets are placed in right spots. My flow meter is pretty accurate, but the other thing that might make it less is the chemicals like atrazine etc that might make the liquid more dense to meter. Thanks mate I do really enjoy the detailed videos, update we have had good rains in south west Western Australia so crops are finally germinated hope your season is going well.

As a custom applicator we don’t use rtk because we don’t have the original tractor lines that’s why we run raven cameras that align the rows on the screen and steers the machine it works great even on slight curves also on a 24 row planter you drive the sprayer on the split row of the planter then I always jump back to the tractor row right in the middle makes it easier to find the proper row!

Also always rinse any heavy clay products with water out of the booms at the end of each day you never know how long it may sit and after 2-3 days in the heat those 5 ways will choke with the settling and you’ll kick yourself spending half a day cleaning all of them out been there done that never again!

I don’t think the vision-based steering is readily available on the Hagie with Deere hardware. I know the Deere sprayers have a really good system. I do have the fortune of having the exact lines that were used for planting, other than possibly re-centering them. I did exactly what you said when spraying the field!

Can’t remember, does your sprayer have the bar recycle kit? From what I understand it keeps the chemicals mixed & you avoid a “Christmas Tree” pattern but would it help clear nozzles from gelling?

You seem to know what you are talking about. I don't have a boom recirculation system. They are great for keeping products mixed and reducing the likelihood of a concentrated spots of chemical hurting the crop. My spray has nine sections, so each one would need a return line from each. It can be done, but it isn't the cheapest option!

Nice job spraying, I would think you'd done it a while with all the factors you're taking into consideration. You've obviously talked to some knowledgeable people with regard to reducing spray drift, messing with pain in the ass atrazine and flushing booms.

Instead of moving over a row and leaving weeds, I fold the boom back at an angle. I'd rather take a few beans out then have a fence row of weeds to fight forever. Keep the boom low and slow and u don't get many

That is an interesting idea. My fear is that you can’t win with some people. I hate weeds, but I know some farmers that’ll get really pissed if you even ding 1 row of their soybeans…

@@aTrippyFarmer I try not to kill a 30 inch row. But the bean planter guy should stay 4ft away from the corn if they don't want any herbicide damage. Otherwise they're too close unless the corn guy planted over their line. Then both spray guys should overlap the 4 ft between for a clean border. Keep in mind the wind also. I use the same ab line for our corn and bean field borders and only get 1 sometimes 2 rows of our 15 inch beans right up next to the corn with callisto

I pay much more attention now that I have a sprayer. I’ve noticed that spray drift is all over the place. There are some stretches where you see a field that got slightly dinged every few fields!

Keep your boom low like your doing and slow down so the pressure is lower when your doing the borders and you usually won't have much trouble.
