Ngl i like his cartoonish artsyle. It just looks different and not just your average japanese artsyle. But it gets more "realistic" in Fire Force, still overall i like his artsyle.

What I love about Ohkubo is that during soul eater’s manga run he was very VERY experimental with the way he shades the way he colors and the way he does perspective, not to mention some of his work it took a lot of inspiration from American comic books Japanese and American graffiti art and Gorillaz and other music album covers

That's explain why when I see Soul and Shinra remember me a bit of 2D and Murdoc
@shyghost4695 Жыл бұрын
I’m pissed because Soul Eater Not could’ve been a story about Maka’s mother, Spirit and, Stein in the academy along with the rest of the teachers. That would’ve been very interesting imo

I remember watching this as a kid just thinking it was so cool seeing black characters in an anime. And the way he draws eyes. Coolest shit ever. When I look at his art I feel like he is very inspired and has a lot of fun while he’s drawing.

This series is very entertaining and insanely helpful. It'd be cool to see you tackle other artists like Gege Akutami, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, etc. On another note, great video!

I'm glad you like the series! And yes, those are 2 artists I definitely plan to tackle relatively soon. Especially Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. 😁

1:21 Correction: The name is spelled 大久保 篤 (I added a space for clarity, but usually you don't need one). It's good to remember, that Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Hungarian names are in a different order than the English ones. It's surname first, then given name.

Do you think he does all of fire force traditionally? I noticed the backgrounds are so well drawn and so detailed it made me wonder if it’s not digital ?

Ohkubo sensei is really an unique manga artist, he can make a very good chara design based on my taste. Btw, have you checked out food wars manga artist? How is your impression about it?
@Namukir3 жыл бұрын
Yes actually, I did do some sleuthing on the food wars artist. (And finished the entire manga lol) definitely someone that I will do in the future considering I can pull lots of artist material from him.

I'm so happy you go out of your way to analyze "underground" artist. I LOVE FF and SE and ohkubos unique and gritty style is one of my biggest inspirations, next to many others like murata and boichi. His dynamism is amazing and I love the lunatic and cartoony style these manga have. Not only that, he surely takes inspiration from many unorthodox things, as well as design and fabulousness, making his color pages stick out with a glassy, and haunted texture unique to him. Truly a master of the Arts with his fight scenes, which immerse you in the silly worlds of both series. But isn't afraid to get "raunchy" With his horror inspirations, with the aforementioned lunatic style.

I glad you pointed out the noses. When I first saw Soul Eater as a kid, the noses where really distracting to me, as they made me think of pig noses. The noses grew on me though and I have to say Soul Eater heavily influenced my work as a graphic designer and graffiti artist.

i've now watched both fire force and soul eater (the anime, i've heard the manga is actually better but i haven't got around to it) and i have to say, i really appreciate 2nd rate mangaka like ohkubo. they aren't genuis story writers, they aren't the best artists. but they can still bring unique ideas to the table that are more then enough keep your attention. not everyone has to be oda or Miura. there will always be a place for stories like soul eater and fire force.

Aw come on, don't be so hard on NOT! Is a nice low stakes fluffy reading, I specially liked that he decided to make an entire series just to explain the ins and outs of Shibuzen/DWMA without doing those anoying exposition infodump pauses in the main story that are so prevalent in shonen Also he drew that one while he was simultaneously about to finish Soul Eater, I say that's pretty impressive to have two series running at the same time and work in then at the same time (considering that NOT was weekly while SE was Monthly)

theres a disparity in art style between fire force and soul eater. it a cus soul eater was a monthly manga and fire force a weekly. I personally like his soul eater style since it had a nice in between of experimental and grounded art style but at the same time i love how more punk-y fire force looked
