His organ music certainly isn't underrated. Most organists regard it as some of the finest in the repertoire. The Chaconne is actually an arrangement of an organ piece. Schmidt composed the original work in 1925 and made the orchestral arrangement in 1931.

That is very true! Thanks to Naxos, I was finally able to listen to all his symphonies. Naxos does it best; good rendition with tone poems / single pieces. What a brilliant composer! This one and Fuga tugs at my heart!
