Thanks Gile! Hahaha! I’m a converted van guy; I used to hate them until I saw the light. Thanks for the compliment! Definitely going to be Flathead powered, and as “old school” as I can manage…

@@crazycaseyscustoms That's how I would do one too. 20's-30's car is on my bucket list.

I have a 30 roadster body that was apart when I got it. Thanks for the help!

John, that’s awesome to hear that these videos are going to be helpful to your build. Feel free to bug me if you have any questions. Honestly, I don’t mind.

Casey, you can also remove that spring from the rivet gun for one-offs. It obviously won’t rebound the same but I have done it with aluminum rivets anyway. In aviation, the rivets are better in that they expand internally so there is contact all the way through the fastener. Unless one used interference fit bolts, I suspect the same for the Model A frames. Not sure it would matter so much on the body and was cheap and fast as you say. Great stuff to look back at as there is little info out there on doing this type of repair. Thanks!
@crazycaseyscustoms2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Dave, as that was what I was going for filming this. Good tip on the spring; makes total sense, but I don’t think I ever thought of it. And you’re totally right-on about the expansion effect of the rivets, and it is absolutely critical on some applications, but probably not on this old car body. This thing is already WAY sturdier than any other early car body I have had…

This is why, I like to use rivet size bolts, to mock the whole build first.

I have a small 1/2" wide electric belt sander, comes in very handy for those tight places like those rivets you removed. You're doing great!
@crazycaseyscustoms3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah…I used to have one of those. I leant it out, and it never came back home. Somehow that always seems to happen when I lend my tools out. 😢

I have used those button head machine screws where I want a rivet look, and give them a little buzz with the MIG and file it to shape. I have not tried plastic filler, not sure it would hold. Maybe try JBWeld to fill in the Allen head? Note: I haven’t had to remove any of them! That might suck. Keep up the good work!
@crazycaseyscustoms3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha! That is why I was thinking of using the body filler; that Bondo is incredibly sticky stuff, but you can melt it out, or chip it out, without too much trouble, should you need to take things back apart. I figured that if I used JB Weld it would be more difficult to remove. Also, some alloy bolts get really brittle when you weld on them, even though a tack is probably fairly inconsequential to the ultimate strength... Anyway…great minds, they say. 😊

So I've got to ask... What do you enjoy more? Working on the car and building the car? OR driving the car? I think personally I enjoy the overall process and maintenance more than driving the car.
@crazycaseyscustoms3 жыл бұрын
I’m somewhere in the middle, but the only reason I don’t like driving them as much is because I’m always worried about breaking them. As my confidence level increases, I tend to have more and more fun behind the wheel. 😊

Bless you my friend! 😂 Hey, since you’re my favorite subscriber I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’ve moved into a new shop (and house), and I’m just going through the motions of getting it all setup (wired and plumbed, etc). I’m hoping to wrap that up in the next couple of days, and then pick up the Roadster (still in Cali) this weekend. So look for a new video from me in the next week or so! 😊😊😊
