Hey There, and welcome back to the channel everyone! My 1928 Model A Roadster Project is BACK!!
In this episode we’re going to finally install these 1940 Ford Split Wishbones with a kit from Speedway Motors:
www.speedwaymo...
Really, we’re just going to rough the wishbones in, but you’ll get to see what’s involved in installing the threaded bungs into the bones themselves, as well as watching me struggle to figure out how to square the axle up with the frame. I’ll save final welding (since it would have had to be done upside down) until the body comes off of the chassis for the final time. Which will also allow me the opportunity to re-measure everything a final time once I have the full weight of the engine and transmission installed in the chassis. But this video represents a BIG step in the right direction for this project!
With that said, I hope you all enjoy this week’s video! And please don’t forget to hit that “LIKE” button, and “SUBSCRIBE” to the channel if you like what you see, and want to see more videos like this every single week! Also, hit me in the comments section to let me know what you think, and tell me what YOU want to see more of in future videos.
To see more of this project, find me on Instagram via @Rev_Casey_James and follow the hashtag #TheCrazyCaseyRoadster.

Casey, I just found your channel and this being my first video of yours that I have watched, great content. I just got my '31 A running gear today and going to have to split the wish bone because I'm going to do a V-8 install and this was super informative. Thanks and I look forward to catching up on the rest of your content.

@@crazycaseyscustoms I just finished a very similar Hi-Boy but with a 1930 roadster body. I found a great rust-free body that had been hanging in the rafters of his shop since 1964. the doors were stuffed with wadded-up newspapers from 1957!

Squaring the axles with the frame is most accurate using triangulation, I.e. measuring from rear axle ends to centre point of front cross member spring bolt or, king pin centres to centre point of rear cross member spring bolt. Then checking all other relevant measurements and adjusting to suit. Nice job Casey.
@crazycaseyscustoms
@crazycaseyscustoms 3 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct George. When I take the body back off to do the final assembly, I’ll have to scrutinize all of those measurements.

Thanks for your video, it is very helpful. Just curious why you used later split bones instead splitting model a unit? was it just to get a certain look, or is there an advantage to the later units? Thanks.
@crazycaseyscustoms

Thanks Roger. When talking any kind of suspension link, longer is pretty much always going to be better. And I figure a Hot Rodder of the day probably would have used as much donor material as possible from the later car that his Juice Brakes came from. That, and I do also find them a bit more aesthetically pleasing. So, all of the above, I guess. 😊

Hey a bit off topic but quick question.i have a 31 Ford stock roller.i want to getting running asap and was giving a straight 6 Chevy.would i have to box it or could i run it like that?
@crazycaseyscustoms
@crazycaseyscustoms Жыл бұрын
The consensus is, yes. The frames were barely adequate 90+ years ago, and that Chevy 6 probably makes double the power. That said, the earliest hot rodders didn’t, but the steel would have been in a lot better shape in the 40’s…

Hi Casey great work I'm really enjoying the channel! Is the rear axle model A or a later V8 one? What are you thoughts on a stock model A rear axle behind a stock or slightly warmed 24 stud flathead V8? Cheers Chris
@crazycaseyscustoms
@crazycaseyscustoms 3 жыл бұрын
Awesome Chris! Thank you and glad to hear you’re enjoying the channel. I believe that the rear axle in my car is a ‘48. I think that, because it is an open drive axle, and I do not believe that it was converted…though it might have been. I think that the stock Model A axle should probably survive. I believe that they were plenty stout. Pick up the Vern Tardel book (link in the description of my Model A Rear Suspension video (Ep.8). It goes into depth about making a closed drive axle work with the V8 transmission…little bit different approach than I took, but even cooler in terms of being “traditional”. Good luck with the project, and don’t hesitate to ask questions as you have them. Are you doing any sort of photo/video documentation of your project? I’d love to check it out!

What wheels and tire sizes are on the model A ? I love the set up
@crazycaseyscustoms

Alex, I *think* (been too long) that the wheels are 16x4.5 front and 16x5.5 rear, and the tires are 16x5.50 front and 16x7.00 rear.

Why a 1940 wishbone on a 28-31? Can the original 28-31 be split and used?
@IowaMercMan
@IowaMercMan 3 жыл бұрын
@Bill Jr sure you can use 28-31 bones. The later bones have caster “built in” at the perch pin end, and the A bones don’t. Or maybe he was simply using what he’s got!
