Statement from Minister Kaeding: I know that Estevan and the surrounding area have been experiencing challenges since the federal government regulations were brought forward on coal powered generation. Our government is committed to working with these affected communities to ensure they have a key role as we work to diversify our energy and power production. Earlier this week I was speaking at the Virtual Summit of the Canadian Nuclear Society and made comments that led to questions about the future of clean coal and energy production in the Estevan area. I misspoke when referencing coal powered generation, and should have noted those comments were referencing conventional coal powered generation. The Premier and your MLA Lori Carr have said that carbon capture will continue to play a significant role in power production in Saskatchewan. I unequivocally agree with them. Estevan has a big role to play and as the new Minister of Environment I am eager to work with local stakeholders on how we can reach that goal.

Ms. Carr, thank you for your response. I will be looking forward to a formal press release from Hon. Warren Keading Environment Minister including the explanation you have provided. I think we all can agree social media responses although enlightening are not exactly cast in stone.
