A little late on the reply, but if you want to see a GOOD movie about the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Go buy "Tora! Tora! Tora!", it's a pretty old movie, but AMAZINGLY good. The remake was nothing but a crappy love story based loosely around the bombing... and they did a horrible job of it.

This was taken from the trailer (advertisement) for the early 2000’s film “Pearl Harbor”. It was an ok film in which the ending (Doolittle Raid) was wholly unnecessary and made the film too long.

@TrentBroadcaster the Atomic Bomb was a last resort option for the military. The US military was preparing for a ground invasion of Japan, there where plans for a full blockade of Japan, all were seen as too costly & chance of being ineffective in ending the war in the Pacific Theater. President Truman's military advisers stated that an atomic attack was the only way to end the war without extending the length of this already long war.

The IJN attack on Pearl Harbor was an extreme strategic blunder. The Japanese did not even come near accomplishing what could be considered a decent outcome, considering the extremely favorable terms the Japanese attacked with. Of the 18 damaged ships, 16 where returned to service by 1944, albeit some were extensively damaged and served other roles when they returned. The two Battleships that sunk were good ships, but they were commissioned in world war one, and the US Navy already had two Battleships of the North Carolina class, and four battleships of the South Dakota class either already in commission, or nearly completed. None of the US carriers were sunk or even harmed in the attack. Which was correctly recognized as the goal of the attack. None of the US submarines were sunk or even harmed, and would go on to cause serious damage to Japanese shipping in the Pacific. The United States Navy fuel stores for the Pacific fleet was not touched, despite being an extremely easy target considering the circumstances. Fueling pacific operations would have been a serious logistical concern, without the massive amounts stored at Pearl Harbor. None of the harbor equipment were seriously harmed in the attack. Equipment such as cranes, trucks, workshops and all other endeavors needed to keep an entire fleet operation.... were left untouched. What the Japanese got was two outdated Battleships, a few thousand experienced and brave men and the fury of 133 million Americans.

Although I admire your patriotism and reasons, you forget: The Japanese knocked more than enough sense to the US; before, we thought we were almighty and powerful just because we had so many battleships in a "safe" place. Now we recognize the true strength is not by the number of powerful battleships but by strategic air power, and the fact that NOWHERE is safe. The Japanese taught us a huge lesson, and so we eventually returned the favor with a degree in the form of two bombs.

+ResidentEddy (Paradise Lightning) The American's removed their aircraft carriers from Pearl Harbour which was the main Japanese target. American knew a Japanese attack was coming for some time although they didn't know when or where till it was too late. Yea, the US should’ve allowed Japan to have their way with China, French Indo-China (Vietnam), and the Netherlands East Indies. The US said basically that if Japan is going to threaten or attack those countries they will do so without the help of the US. An embargo is the opposite of making money. The US lost money on that deal.

@EvilFingers true but when this movie was made it was made in the time when people gave up on details and just wanted big explosions and intense fighting sequences. yes they could have made the whole movie of pearl harbor like that but it would have cost outragious. do you know how much was spent on that 30 minutes of cgi for the main battle sequence? cgi may be simple but its far from cheap.

Chiming in my own kudos for this vid. ;) As for the movie, I also agree with the general disenting comments. For me, what was bothersome was the inconsistent adherance to visual accuracy. Take the clips from 4:32/6:03, where CGI WW2 ships were used used (great visuals), then you see something like in 4:55, where old-Knox Class frigates (mid-60's vintage) were fitted with pyrotechnics. You think they could've stuck with CGI only.

US has done the same thing at Irak, philipines, vietnum, korea, japan and so on, right ? Difference is that US always targets citizens or randomly, too, in its long history. US clames the victims of its soldiers like Bataan. Douglas MacArthur to be blamed for that. He abandoned the 70k soldiers of philipines and US. Other clames are often fakes such as chinese and korean issues. but this kind of movie recall me of Japan bashing. US is excelent and talented of shifting the its respons and focus of poeple to others, this is same in economic war and EU has the same characters.

Look britain is the best country in the world as we were in the war from 1938 till 1944-45. The USA however were only in the war for 4 years not even that December 1941 till the summer of 1945, 3 and a quarter years. We were in it for almost double. Yeah the USA helped by sending men, artillery and ammo but we were doing the fighting. It was our men that died. If you want a better film than this try battle 360. It is awesome and true.

well if you ask me that makes the American smart by not declaring war right away. yeah they loaned you weapons which you had to pay off (plus interest) well during and after the war. We may be a tiny island but at one point we controlled most of the world. And we won both world wars. We didn't let the innocent die. We fought. The US let Poland be invaded. They let Hitler rage across Europe. We stood up for France and Poland. And we got nothing in return. That's the kind of country we are. Britain tagging along. More like the us tagging along against Russia now. Because they said if Britain goes in then so will they. Not before.
@RedneckRapture10 жыл бұрын
Ha! Britain the best country. England had a good navy but that was it. Were it not for the US supplying England it would have fallen to Hitler same as the rest of Europe. Fortunately, the US did supply England, and then later on, joined the war. Not only did it join the war, it fought the war on TWO FRONTS. That is one of the hardest things to do! US troops turned the tide in Europe and America single-handedly fought Japan all the way back to their home islands. During the Cold War, the US not only outpaced the USSR in spending, prompting Russia to spend more to try to keep up which eventually led to cause their economic collapse, it did so while funneling billions of dollars into Europe, including England, to help them rebuild from World War 2. Hell, there are probably more US forces in Europe today than there are European forces.

Japan's attack was inspired by Britain Royal Navy who in 1940 crippled the Italian Navy leaving Britain with total naval supremacy in the Mediterranean. However Japan could never hope to achieve the same results in the Pacific they totally underestimated America. Japan although successful in terms of territorial gains and enemy armies destroyed, captured much like its German Ally earlier simply could not fight a war of attrition and it was only matter time before the Allies would simply overwhelm the Axis counties. Japan's main armies, military personnel were fighting, based in Asia throughout the war a forgotten campaign in which millions of Chinese, Japanese, British Commonwealth, Soviet Russia fought and died (most China) Japan biggest defeat was by Soviet force's in China Manchuria in 1945
