Hey guys, quick update! We are going to use new subtitles in the next episodes, hopefully this should clear up some confusion for us. Thanks for helping to make more sense of the scene. We actually went back just now and watched it with "correct" subtitles, though it probably didn't fully help us because it's the first time we're hearing/seeing that nickname anyways (because of the wrong subtitles) hahah but we appreciate you guys informing us! Again we appreciate you all for your support and can't wait to continue to watch with you guys! :) Also we hope that this isn't technically a spoiler as mentioned, as the show may purposefully come back to this in the later episodes. (This is just a thought we had because the scene did feel pretty broad and potentially hard to understand for new viewers) btw we LOVE this show lol

The close shot with reiner getting crushed is just a anime bait In the manga that shot is from Jean's view and he couldn't exactly see what's going on. He managed to cut him out of her hand and the titans blood is vaporizing shortly after. He didn't get hurt since he has no blood on his clothes.

Great episode and a great reaction as always. I'll say this is an episode where the translation makes things confusing. When Jean is almost killed by The Female Titan, in the proper subtitles Armin says something like "Avenge the Suicidial Maniac." "Suicidal Maniac" is a nickname for Eren that you hear more when listening to the correct translation. Armin distracted the Female Titan by making it think it fucked up its objective which is to capture Eren. This allowed Jean a moment to escape. Little things like that are the reason why the Hulu translation is so much better and less confusing.

Short answer why Armin was able to make the female Titan stop and saved Jean with it: Armin technically Said that Eren died on the right rear by the Titan attack.

For example, Armin's way of stopping the female titan could be a spoiler to explain too much in detail, even though it will be explained in episode 24.

The anime itself spoils a lot. Please focuss on Armin's thoughts and on small details during the fights (Reiner vs Female Titan) (Armin vs Female Titan) (Female Titan vs Normal soldiers). You might figure out stuff before it's shown and it feels good when you figure out something before anime decides to show. I just hope nobody straight up spoils you because that would ruin the hype. Also just a quick explain: Since Armin thought Female Titan was looking for Eren, it was a great opportunity to make her think that she killed Eren when she brought titan to the right wing. That's why she stopped moving.
