For his age through the show looks like Bertholdt was born in the year 832, two days before of it becoming 833. You can notice that type of stuff because of the seasons yeah, but the attack to wall Maria wasn´t before of winter but just after it ended. If it would have been before then Bertholdt wouldn't be 17 at the same time Eren, Armin and Mikasa are 15 (bc he would always be one year apart from Armin or the same age during one month but as we know they're two years apart during the story).

Bertholdt has always seemed so quiet, so uncertain, and now it all makes sense why. He's been living and making friends with people who he directly affected five years ago. His vague warnings to Reiner about being a warrior, not a soldier, take on a whole new dimension: he was restraining himself from growing too close to these people and trying to make sure Reiner did too. They have a goal, and somewhere they both hope to return, and they know they can't go home without ruin the lives of everyone around them. This whole time that Bertholdt seemed weak and indecisive, he was instead intentionally remaining strong and distant. For five years.

Two foreshadowings that have been revealed now: - In episode 2x5, when Ymir reached the top of the tower, you can see bertolt, Historia and Reiner on the same screen. Looking more closely, Bertolt is ready to bit his hand in order to transform in the colossal titan. - In episode 1x17, before trying to stop the femal titan, Armin told Reiner and Jean to put on their hood. However, before attacking Annie, Reiner took off his hood so that she can regognize him and not hurt him More foreshadowings are coming, try finding them ;)

This is one of those episodes where you can go back to it a thousand times over, and you’re still gonna feel that same emotional pull out of it. I’ve looked back on this episode numerous times because in my opinion, it’s literally the turning point of everything we thought we knew, and then they blow our expectations out the water. First time seeing this episode I was definitely just in shock and eyes full of tears, only because we got to see how much Eren looked up to Reiner like an older brother, and so we started to buy into it as well. Through their training and and even the conversations they had together, you wouldn’t have expected some of the people Eren trusted the most with his life and his goals to be the ones who actually ruined everything he once had. The greatest strength of this show is how every arc has at least one moment that makes you look at everything before it in a completely different way. Eren “dying”, emerging from his Titan for the first time, and then realizing he can manifest it. Then you had the revelation of Annie and the realization that their likely other enemies within the walls. Now you’ve got the reveal of Bertholdt and Reiner being the main antagonistic titans of the series. Now you can go back and see any of their lines during the series and how many had double meanings especially when talking between their trio. There are also spots where you can see them reacting in odd ways to a situation or when the armored and colossal titans are being discussed. Even two episodes ago before Ymir transformed herself, there’s a shot where you can clearly see that Bertholdt is about to bite his hand to transform and fix the problem himself. I just love the subtle hints and how well the written the entire story is!

The reveal is one of the most emotional scenes of anything ever. Heck, it's one of the most emotional things a human being can experience. When i first experienced it, along with the Youseebigggirl music, it blew everything I had previously known out of the water. Love, happiness, passion ... this is for real one of the most emotional experiences in my life. I'm happy that you could experience it as well!

Startled hubby a bit.. but I swear, EVERY season gets better than the last. I was spoiled on the identity of the colossal and armored titans when season 2 came out, so I was anticipating a big reveal somewhere, but the way they revealed it in this episode, by reiner just casually mentioning it like that, and the camera wasn't even focusing on them like it wasn't such a big deal. It's like the creators knew half the planet are either suspecting already or spoiled in it and they wanted to do something fun instead. It's my favorite episode for that reason.

I saw a comment once which I quickly skipped by and all I saw was the two words "Reiner" and "Armoured Titan" wriiten close enough together, so I was left suspecting whether he was killed by the armoured titan, he killed the armoured titan or *was* the armoured titan. I kinda suspected the latter because he looks exactly like the armoured titan, but the way he dropped it so casually was definetley a wtf moment.

This moment completely catches you off guard. The other scouts are having conversations about what is going on, and the information is dropped so casually, so everyday, it was truly the only way for the audience to be in the same headspace as Eren. This must be a joke, this can’t be true, how is that possible? The audience is so caught up in figuring out why the creators are presenting this information in this way, it throws them off. But then, just like you did here, when you think “Could they be Titan shifters?”, your mind goes back to Reiner with the female Titan, the questions he asked, the times they were always standing with Annie… and then you see the characters come to the same conclusions, and Armon clarifying that Annie was looking at her Titan hand to go in the direction of Eren… And then the whole moment shifts to a moment of dread, because if they are Titan shifters, Reiner’s arm is going to heal, and it’s just a painful crawl to a final on-screen proof of them being Titan shifters. The arm is revealed, the audience is forced to accept the truth as much as Eren is, and your mind is just SHATTERED at how the creators gave you a false sense of trust in two characters you’ve been cheering for a season and a half. And for the audience when this first came out, it was 4 years between seasons, so you were cheering for Reiner and Bertolt for YEARS, anticipating more adventures or their deaths, and they’re the titans that START THE SERIES!!!!! that scene is everything. the music, the reveal, everything is perfect to make us cry out because of traitors. literally, I didn't know how much times do I have to cry because of this scenes, it's just way too heartbreaking knowing that a good friend to eren, and a good brother to everyone is actually the one who start the chaos. like eren said, put aside berthold (I didn't know if I spell correctly 😂) , but reiner is literally everyone's friend, he's kind to everyone. you know what, when I first watch this anime, I like reiner, but I told myself to hold it, because I know this anime will do a big plot twist, and many of them will die so to keep me safe from depression so I didn't have a top favourite characters. the moment when eren cry and remember all the things they've gone through together as a "friend" really hurt me. I still can't accept this fact even until now 🥲

I love it so much, everything in this series has been so over the top and the Annie reveal is such a big deal that you're hard expecting the big crazy moment, and then it happens and the rest of the group just keeps going. Like the framing legitimately doesn't care about it to the point where you could almost not even know until it finally focuses on it.

Right the way Bert reacts to the moment of pure cander from reiner too really cements it as something special. He goes from "wtf" to "reiners just tired" to "ARE WE REALLY DOING THIS RIGHT NOW?!" while reiner is just in this calm, cool, resolved monologue of why he doesn't want to be who he is but has to be like it's just perfect imo

The other group, Sasha Reiner berthodlt etc, were at the barricade getting attacked by the beast titans forces. That's why they were split up, and they met the next day after the events of utgard castle when both groups saved historia and ymir. And this episode is taking place around that afternoon on wall rose.

I remember back in 2017 when this episode came out. Oh my god the emotions you feel going through it. Honestly I knew it was coming from a friend spoiling it to me before I watched it. I had the same situation, back in 2013-2014 when I was starting watching the anime, a friend told me that Reiner and Bertholt were Armored and Colossal Titan. At that moment I didn't pay too much atention and I actually thought he was lying, but I did started to think that Reiner kind of looks like the Armor titan. But I forgot about that fact, after a while. And, years later when I saw this episode, I suddenly remembered that, and I was like: "Damm, It was true after all"

This scene is so emotional and hurtful. When I first watched this, I feel bad for every parties involved. Eren cared a lot of his friends, especially the ones in the 104th corps so Berth and Reiner are one of the closest of his, their action hurt him so much. Mikasa, even she doesn't appear to care about anyone than Eren but in this scene you can see that she care about these two because she can't even finish them in a single blow when she saw Berth face with fear. For Reiner and Berth, they have to chose what to do, which side they have to side with and that's also make them so conflicted with themself.

One of my favorite things about this episode is the change in Eren's reaction. When it was Annie, even after watching her transform and attack them, he still wasn't willing to accept it. So much so that he couldn't transform. But here, after watching Reiner and Berthold transform, it only took him a moment to grieve, remembering what they did specifically to his hometown, before he transform. All while probably thinking "I'm gonna fuck you guys up!"

I think this part of the story was the turning point where I started to love AoT. I saw it in manga first (which def shocked me) and when it got animated after 2 years of a long wait, it made me cry. There were so MANY intense emotions even though I already knew what was going to happen. Seeing it animated was such a shock. WIT has done it phenomenally. I remember how viral it went too.
