During the show as you know bert died and annie is imprisoned, so they now only have 5 titans and paradis has 4 (technically). This is crucial info to understand S4 EP1 better.

Guys, regarding the Smiley Titan pick, I feel like I need to address this because even Ange grilled me off camera to see if I was spoiled. Watching the reaction back, knowing that it was Dina, looks really suss. In Episode 19, the smiley Titan pick from the photo was pure speculation and said in a joking manner because I thought it’d be kinda of comedic if the one that really ate Carla was Grisha’s ex wife. It wasn’t until this episode that I was on board with theory after Dina gets revealed in such a way, as well as her hairstyle. I can understand if people thought I was spoiled but I was definitely not. It’s up to you whether or not you will take my word for it because we understand that there may be other channels that get spoiled and deceive their viewers, but that’s not what this channel is about! It's alright Carlie - no need to explain. A good guess is a good guess - which means you are paying attention. For Example - I knew Reiner & Bert were Armour & Colossal Titan respectively after their extender conversation with Eren & Armin in Ep 3 (& also they took them to that cliff for that viewpoint) - it was pretty obvious It's them. Also, Reiner's hair gave it away anyway. That being said - I smiley Titan was a good catch - I realized it's her when she appeared for three first time to meet Grisha.

You know what's sadder? Titans have always had that smiling euphoria like ange called out before, right? But the smiling titan particularly is a sad smile, because she had that permanent smile on her face because she promised Trisha that their paths will cross again, and she smiled with that last bit of love she had for him... Whether the atrocities the Eldian Empire committed actually happened is intentionally very vague at this point. It's important to keep in mind that everything Grisha was saying about the Eldian Empire being benevolent is just what he believes. Grice even asked how he could know that, and Grisha admitted he couldn't read the texts, that's just what he CHOOSES to believe.

Here’s a summary of the key points I found, no spoilers so feel free to read all of it! - 1820 years ago, a girl named Ymir Fritz made a contract with the devil to receive the power of the Titans. When she died, her soul split into 9 separate Titans who built the Eldian Empire. - They used that power to conquer a nation called Marley & other countries. The Eldians almost drove other races to extinction. This lasted for 1700 years until the Great Titan War. - The war began when 145th king of Eldians, King Fritz inherited the Founding Titan & failed to use its power to maintain peace. During this period, Marley somehow captured 7 of the 9 Titan powers 80 years ago, ensuring their victory. - Most of the remaining Eldians retreated to the island of Paradis, led by King Fritz. There they built *3 surrounding walls for protection*. As you can guess this is where Eren and the gang have been the entire time. That's why the Titans outside of the walls couldn't "wipe out" humanity since they're all stuck on an island, and Marley and the rest are safe because of that. -When the King Fled to the island, A group of Eldians were left behind in Marley & lived as second-class citizens due to their ancestors, these second-class citizens are people such as Grisha and his parents. - The ‘Eldian Restoration Movement’ has an informant in the Marley government called ‘The Owl’, who has been leading the group from the shadows. - He supplies documents that supposedly refute Marley’s version of history. According to Grisha, Ymir Fritz used the power of the Titans to cultivate the land & bring wealth to the people of the world, not genocide & enslavement. - The Owl also sends a woman named Dina Fritz, who is the last remaining descendant of the royal family. She eventually marries Grisha & *they have a son named Zeke*, whom Grisha believes is the chosen one due to his royal blood. - The Marley government claims that King Fritz will soon declare war & they plan to recruit select Eldian children to inherit the 7 Titan powers that they possess to become "Warriors". Since only Eldians can turn into Titans, no other race can turn into Titans including Marleyans so they have no choice but to recruit Eldian children(Childrens tend to be more obedient). The recruits will also be considered ‘honorary Marleyans’. The Owl informs the Eldian restorationists that this is a cover for Marley to attack Paradis for its resources. - They also learn that Marley has not attacked Paradis in the past because King Fritz had threatened to release millions of Titans from the walls if provoked. - The Founding Titan that was taken to Paradis is crucial to the revivial of Eldia & since their goals line up with Marley i.e. infiltrate the walls & capture the Founding Titan, Grisha enlists his son as a Marley soldier. - Zeke eventually betrays his parents & the Eldian Restorationists to the Marley government & they’re all sent to "Paradise" to roam the island of Paradis as mindless Titans forever. These same Mindless Titans also became a problem later for people within the walls since The Colossal and Armored Titan breached it. Everything else is pretty self-explanatory. Some of these points might be obvious as well but there are others who might be overwhelmed by this massive infodump (like myself in the past). I hope this summary simplifies the exposition & answers any questions that you may have. Not only is this a lot to process, it’s also extremely important as it now changes the entire scope of the story.

I would recommend you to rewatch the Ending of season 2 now. They showed a big chunk of the story there but we could not understand everything at this point. None-spoilers Notes: - "Fritz" and "Reice" (Not sure if that is how it is written) are the same family, but the Royal Fmaily inside the walls changed it to "Reice" to protect themselves by putting a fake king and calling him "King Fritz". They knew that when Marley came for the founding titan, they will be looking for The "Fritz" family. - At this point of the story we don't know the Real history of the Ymir and the eldian empire; Marley could be lying as a propaganda, and Grisha could be lying because of utter faith and devotion toward Ymir, since he said that he didn't translate the history book. - All the Eldians in Marley and other places of the world AND people inside the walls are Called "Subject of Ymir". Also, only "Subject of Ymir can transform into titans, and only Nine Titans are sentient and they, obviously, must be Eldians as well. - Their can only be one Founding Titan at a time and they can only be from the Royal Family.

As we've seen in season 3 part 1, the Reiss family, specifically Frieda, had the founding titan. Grisha had the "shredded" titan. Grisha ate her and got her powers, so Grisha had 2 titan powers, then he turned Eren into a titan and got eaten, so Eren has those 2 now. None of this had anything to do with Dina. So those 2 are with Eren, and Marley has 7 others (colossal, armored, female, beast, "duck", the one freckled Ymir stole from Reiner's friend, and one last unknown one). That makes a total of 9.

Marley was able to get hold of 7 titans, so they currently have 7 titans on their side. Zeke, Reiner, etc. are all a part of Marley's side. The 2 other ones were the founding titan which left to the island with the King, and the other is the shredded titan which Kruger currently has.

I would just like to point out that we learned the name of Eren's home. Its an island named Paradis. When Marley turns Eldians Titan, they "send them to Paradise"...aka turn them and send them to Paradis...which is why the island is always under attack by Titans. Not sure if you noticed that...if so, sorry for repeating it!! Also, not mentioning anyone specific...just letting you know...age isn't really something you can gather from appearances in this show. Characters consistently appear much older/younger than they actually are. If you can do so without spoilers, I seriously suggest researching actual ages!! Zeke isn't a sloth...he's playing with a monkey. Its a monkey. Ironically hilarious to me that Dina tells Grisha that no matter what form she took, she'd find him. And she did...as the Smiley Titan. 🤣🤣

The Zeke situation, to start with, just look at it like this: Grisha was being taught, indoctrinated, by his dad about Eldias sin and how they are a terrible race, he acts out and becomes a patriot. Grisha then teaches, indoctrinates, Zeke into being on his side, he also acts out - Grisha even says that he should have known it wouldn't work like that, since he strayed from what his dad taught him lol

I know right? This is what I found amazing about this show. I've seen many reactors (Carlie & Ange being one of the few exceptions) say "what a sh*** bastard" for turning in their parents, but when we see Zeke's childhood, it makes sense why he did that, influenced by his only positive influence in his life at that moment, failing to meet his parents' (mostly Grisha) expectations, and scared of the impending doom of Marley founding them out on their own and getting them all turned into Titans. I believe most of us being kids and in Zeke's situation would've done the same. One misunderstanding of people is that they believe all that I mentioned is "an excuse for something un-excusable", but it isn't. These aren't reasons to justify Zeke, these are the factual circumstances that led Zeke to do what he did, so his actions are comprehensible, and also, the act of selling his parents out is horrible without a doubt, but given the circumstances and that Zeke was a child, I just cannot say he is evil or cruel for doing it, even from his facial expression at the moment of his parents arrest, he looks scarred.

Now that you've watched this episode, try to recall Reiner, Annie and Bertholdt and find that connection with Zeke Yaeger and how he was wanted by Grisha to be one of the warrior candidates. All four of them were just kids. Then try to find that empathy towards the 'enemy' titan shifters we've encountered the past three seasons.

Love your reaction guys. A clarification about the "two" royal families that is not adressed directly in the show but was implied in this episode. It's the same family, just diferent branches. Fritz is original family name, which was kept by the surviving members on Marley. Reiss is the family name that the royal family took after the king fled with it's people behind the walls.

Carlie connected things so quickly, it's unreal in the intro, she got so much of it right including the identity of the Smiley Titan. You guys now know the truth of the AoT World. This show was very much inspired by the German Japanese history, I'd recommend after you guys watch the Season 4 part 2, there is the trial of the Imperial Japanese Army after they surrendered in the Second World War, it came to known as the Tokyo Trials. There are many parallels there. Also, Commander Dot Pixis is inspired by a famous Japanese General of the Imperial Japanese army that operated during the second world war.

This isn't in the future, nor centuries ago, it was just 20 years ago from now. The Continent of Marley was the place, not in the Island of Paradi where the Walled City that we know is located (a sea away). Their talk about the timeframe is the evident clue. Grisha's father explained plenty already. 80 years before that time as they discussed, the Eldian King who possessed the Founding titan, a direct descendant of Ymr Fritz, along with his loyal subjects fled to the Island of Paradi to build the world inside the Walls, the rest (with some branch members of the royal family) stayed in Marley and in many places around of the World. He was the First King of the Walls that was mentioned in s3 p. 1. He fled because he was tired of the atrocities that they of the Eldian Empire have committed using their titan abilities against the rest of humanity for ages, thus ended the Great Titan War. After building his "paradise" in the walls, he erased the memory of every Eldian (except the Ackermans and some noble bloodlines) that went with him (everyone in the Walls are Eldians like the ones we see in Marley), that is why the technology inside the Walls are so primitive compared to the rest of the world who already have cars, airships and what not (not because they live in the future). He made them believe that humanity outside the walls were wiped out, when the truth is, the rest of the world are alive and flourishing. Also, because the King no longer wanted to fight, he made a vow renouncing war, in which he bound all of his descendants who would inherit the Founder to submit to, which was clearly demonstrated in the Reiss family. Nevertheless, as you saw, the Eldians are still hated above all by everyone because of their ability to turn into titans, not to mention everything they've done in the past... Enjoy your rewatch!! 😊

if the Marleyan Soldiers knew that Dina was the last royal blooded Eldian then they would use Dina as a human incubator(idk what the word for it) to produce more royal blooded babies, basically use her like a farm animal to make more kids as suitable hosts/users of the founding titan in the future if and when Reiner and his crew were successful to kidnap the Founding Titan from the Island. Also the Reiss Family is the Fritz Family, after coming to the Island King Fritz changed the family name to Reiss after the memory wipe bcoz the fake king that was silent in s3p1 was named Fritz to be a fake proxy by the real Fritz Family(Rod,Uri,Frieda)

The Founding Titan is one of the 9. The founder Ymir was the first person to acquire the power of the Titans. Marleyans and Eldians disagree on how this happened, so it’s still a mystery at this point in the story. When Ymir died, her power was split into the Nine Titans, of which the Founding Titan is one. These are the Titan shifters. Founding, Beast, Armored, Female, Colossal, Shredded, Duck, Freckled Ymir’s Titan, and one more you haven’t encountered yet. Each Titan has the same general features regardless of who the vessel is (Colossal is always big and skinless, Armored always has armor, Duck is always quadrupedal, etc.) but they also usually look like the person that is the current vessel of the power, the current Titan shifter. This is why Eren, Grisha, and Kruger’s Shredded Titan look different, yet they’re all the same Titan power. Annie’s predecessor for example could have had long black hair, so the Titan form would also have long black hair, but it still would have been the Female Titan. Hope this cleared up some confusion :)

I thought it was amazing in this episode how the lines of the future are built and used, the titans who were Grisha's friends appeared in the first season. The bearded was the that almost devoured the eren, the one that devoured the Marleyan was the one that devoured some recruits in their first fight against the titans.

This episode and the next one are clearly the most revealing ones of the entire show! So yes, you need to watch more than once to be able to catch/note everything! 😅As you can see, there is no time travel. The people on Paradise Island are simply late of the reality. Since they are trapped within those walls, they have no contact outside of them. About the titans, they said that the original Ymir, Ymir Fritz, split her spirit into nine titans, which are the titan shifters ability. The Marley's gouvernment had 7 of them on their control. Which are: Beast, Colossal, Armored, Female, the four legged titan and Marcel/Ymir's titan. So there is still one that we never seen yet. The other 2 that were not on Marley's control are The founding and Kruger/Grisha/Eren's titan. But now, they have lost the Colossal. So they still control 6 of them, since Ymir agreed to follow Reiner and Berthold. All of that is just a small summary. 😁 Keep the good work and keep that notebook close! 🤗

About Uri and the king who escaped, that king had the founder titan and made a vow renouncing war that is passed down with the founder titan which forces the inherenters to think like him they can't escape it or avoid it that's why Rod had that conversation about how we can stop and eliminate all titans and shit and once Uri got the founder he didn't do it.. Cuz of that vow. They feel the same guilt of the first king and the whole "we deserve to die" type of thing

Remember that Rod Reiss said since Eren isn't royal (neither is Grisha) the founding titan inside him cannot manifest (expect for that one time in S2) so Frieda has no effect on his looks at the moment.
