Courtney is calling out one of the main points the author is trying to convey with this story. The hypocrisy of committing acts of violence and cruelty against your enemies just breeds more violence in return. Innocent and guilty people alike get caught up in it and it creates an endless cycle.

I think she was also confused about the fact that while Marley would like to see Eren dead, Zeke said he was coming back to "rescue" him.
@Qprah5 ай бұрын
Its a very real confusion to have and its born of the fact that Marley hates the Eldians so viscerally but is unable to get rid of them completely due to the potential power they possess. Marley hates the Eldians but doesn't get rid of them because they are too valuable as living weapons, slaves, cannon fodder, warriors, etc. This is returned by the Eldians who live in Marley who are also protected by Marley keeping them alive and shielding them from the rest of the world who also hates the Eldians. Since the rest of the world dont control any of the 9 Titans the other countries have no vested interest in maintaining the Eldian population as it doesn't benefit any nation other than Marley. Marley and the Eldians have a very twisted symbiotic relationship where they are each benefiting from the other, despite the treatment each receives from the other.
@hunter-tu1df5 ай бұрын
That's actually not what she tried to say. That was just Lia's interpretation. Her question was much simpler, she just asked if they hate titans why they're making more. The answer to that is that since the titans are mindless hence easy to manipulate to their advantage and the Marleyans hold the power to make them, that's what they're doing to punish the eldians and dropping off more threats outside the paradis walls Edit: Also in case she didn't understand, being a mindless titan is eternal torment for the person turned

An important but subtle part of being Eldian in Marley that we see in this episode is the need for members of a subjugated minority to police each other's speech. When Grisha's father is teaching him that Ymir was evil, Grisha's father isn't simply brainwashed. He lives in a world where questioning authority often results in a fate worse than death. So when an Eldian in the internment zone gets angry about comments that are critical of Marley, it's not necessarily because they believe Marley's version of history- it's more often because they're trying to protect each other from being targeted by Marleyan authorities. And yet, this urge to protect each other can create misunderstandings and distrust, like it did between Grisha and his father. So the episode depicts how authoritarian control can shatter families and weaken communities. It is to Marley's benefit that Eldians don't trust each other. And that makes the punishment of "getting sent to Paradise" a doubly effective way of controlling them.

Not 100% clear what you are confused about but, Everyone inside the walls = Eldians. Reiner, Barthold, Annie, Monkey Man, everyone inside interment camp also eldians. Everyone else = Marlians, who do not have the devils blood (the ability to turn into titans). Creating those titans on that island is no danger for Marly, as it is an island. It is a punishment as well as free guard dogs for the Eldians inside the walls. The Eldians inside the walls however have the ultimate power( the millions of titans in the walls). Think off them as the only once who have nuclear weapons in the world. So the current status quo is at the mercy of them not pressing the red button. Which is why it is an always existing world ending threat to Marly. So they want to get rid of the eldians or obtain that power themself.

In response to Courtney, remember when Ymir said that eating Reiner's friend freed her from a 60 year nightmare as it allowed her to turn back into a human, since the people inside mindless titans are conscious but aren't in control, it's hell for them. Also based on what we've seen in this episode, everyone knows how bad it is being turned into a titan and prefer death rather than being unleashed on paradis as mindless titans. So essentially, the Marleyans are using this as a punishment for the eldians and increasing the number of threats for the residents of paradis at the same time.

Great reaction guys 🫡 Also just to answer Courtney’s question . Being a mindless titan is like being in a place of constant agony. Remember Ymir when she was talking to Bert and Reiner I believe, she said something along the lines of “I was trapped in that hell for almost 70 years” so it’s like a prison of its own , I think that’s why the marlyeans do it, they see it as the ultimate punishment for an eldian
@vincentvieille59965 ай бұрын
Think about it. If there were no titans outside the walls, it will let Eldians going on the continent and attacking Marley, that's why Marley turn Eldians into titans, on the Island. Even if it's creating hate toward them, they can't do much more than keeping them at bay, with the titans. They use titans as a prison for Eldians inside the walls. There is the story with the first king you should not forget. The king was about peace. To clarify, the king refuse to fight and never controled titans on the Island. So, making Eldians in titans is the logical things to do, when you want to punish a race, and keeping them at bay in the same time. You don't understand because you don't think enough about the global situation. Marley is on the continent, they don't fear titans who will only exist on the Island. And like they explained, they need Eldians to be vessels for titans, meaning they use Eldians and their power of titans in was, like weapons. That's why they are not exterminating them. They are keeping them in interment zone, so that they can use them as weapons. And as long they are usefull weapons, Marley will not kill them all.

This one is pretty dense with info so it might take a second watch to fully absorb everything. Just to clear up some confusion, the reason why the Marlyans hate the the Eldians isn't so much that they can turn in to titans but that the eldians used the power of the titans to enslave the rest of the world since the coordinate can control them. So the fact that they are turning them into titans is to both imprison and torment the rest of the Eldians on the island as a form of poetic justice.

But anyway, for them, the punishment is making them into dumb titans and throwing them to the island as jail time. What does the nation of Marley have to fear from the people behind the walls? King Fritz wiped out all of their memories. Also he openly declared that he was taking a vow of pacifism to the point that his descendants, who inherit the Founding Titan, also are tainted by that vow pacifism. In fact, so much so they are okay with dumb/Pure Titans eating their own people because they see it as a form of repentance for the, "sins of the past". Never mind how the Marleyans kind of know that King's true descendants won't react unless they invade the island itself directly because that's what King Fritz told them. So why not use the island as a dumping ground for Eldian political prisoners? Political prisoners they turn into human eating dumb/Pure Titans that can be used to help control and prune the population living behind the walls so to stay behind those walls. Then again, there is also the fact that Grisha just explained in this episode how Marley's military has become dominate in the world by relying on the "smart" (The Nine) Titans to help them fight their wars. In other words, they may hate the Eldians but they see them as tools for their own empire building ambitions. Lastly, we know by now some, NOT ALL, of the Nine can actually control and direct Pure Titans. I.e., remember how Annie/The Female called in Pure Titans in season 1 to help her when she was rampaging outside the walls? Or how the Beast Titan controlled all those Titans in the second half of Season 3. Yeah, this means the Marleyans have an understanding of how these powers work and they can use the Nine and the Pure Titans as living bio-weapons. I could go on but hopefully you got the point. The actions of the Marleyans aren't odd at all when you put the pieces together and use the information you've been handed in this episode and throughout Seasons 1, 2 and 3. Never mind when you factor their spite and hatred towards the Eldians into it all as well and remember what it's like to be a dumb/Pure Titan according to Ymir from Season 2..."Living nightmare".

So they were the "evil monsters" that the world wanted to save humanity from. Humanity's greatest and feared enemy... This was the reality that people like Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie, and Ymir had to face. If it was anything like what happened to Grisha and Fay (poor girl), then it was indeed a cruel world they were living in. Bertholdt's inner monologue during "Descent" has so much more weight now... And now knowing who the Smiling Titan is, it makes it all the more tragic what happened to her. She unknowingly killed her husband's second wife, killed Hannes, and then died by Eren's hand when he set the titans on her...The only positive of all that that I could see was how she was at least set free from her nightmare through death. And yes!! All the titans that Grisha's friends and comrades turned into were in S1! Aside from the Smiling Titan, there's the really tall blonde titan that swallowed Thomas, the Santa Claus titan that swallowed Eren, the titan that started to run after Grice on on all fours was the one that surprised-chomped Eren's legs, and the one with the creepy big eyes that killed Gross was the one that killed Mina Carolina.

To answer Courtney's point, yes, they don't like titans and at the same time they are creating more titans. They do it to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, that way they punish subversive eldians and at the same time they keep the ones in Paradis island confined inside the walls. Consider that Marley can't just go into the island and kill the eldians there, because the eldians still have the founding titan, who has the power to basically destroy the world, so they use indirect methods. The nation of Marley is also using some of the 9 titans to wage war against other nations, so to go back to Courtney's point, the problem they have is not so much with using the power of the titans per se, but the fact that it was used against them (although they would not think about it in those terms, they see themselves as historic victims of the eldians and they think that gives them the right to use the tools of their enemy to "defend" themselves). Another important factor that explains why they hate eldians even though they themselves are now creating titans, is that non eldians cannot turn into titans, only eldians can. The fact that eldians alone have the potential to turn into monsters make non eldians perceive them as a demonic race.
@diminuendo615 ай бұрын
Well Marley doesn't see themselves as historic victims, they ARE historic victims lmao. The Eldians literally enslaved them and the Marleyans rebelled and took titans and began the Great Titan War (which really did not happen all that long ago). AOT is WWII if the Jews were to oppress Germany in return. Doesn't make what they're doing now right, but that just adds to Isayama's big message in the series about hate being a cycle.

This is easy way Marley = as Nazi Eldian = as Jewish When you see final season Marley's top show up looks like Hitler😅 He said " finally we never see flying titan " but this comment you have to remember at last episode😊

What a joke. 🤡 It's literally the opposite. The way the J✡️ tried to appropriate the drama of the Eldians is simply hilarious 😂 "But look, the cOnCeNtRaTiOn cAmPs and the aRmBaNdS" the whole context behind the subjugation of the Eldians has literally nothing to do with the Jews, but with WHITE PEOPLE, especially the Germans. Eldians are clearly a portrayal of white people being subjugated after losing all their former power and being brainwashed to hate themselves (white guilt); Paradis is based on Germany and has a lot of parallels with NS Germany; Hajime Isayama is a pro-Imperial Japan nationalist, etc. Cope harder! 🤣

If anything Marley is like Israel. They just took the Palestinians as Eldians instead of the Germans

@@7daimeHokage Nah Marley is more merciful than that. They sat down with Greisha's dad and tried to justify what happened to his daughter instead of taking their home and displacing the family. They even let Greisha go free instead of putting him in prison.

I would actually say Marleyans = Jews and Eldians = Nazi Germany. The difference is: the Jews turn around and oppress Nazi Germany. That's more indicative of the Eldian-Marleyan relationship in AOT, as we have to remember that the Marleyans were the original victims in the overall history of the series. Similar to how the Jews were the first victims to Nazi Germany. Only difference in the AOT world is that the victims are now oppressing the oppressors.

So, let me be straight here before people start saying Eldians are like Jews (I hate this stupid take so much lol): Eldians are clearly a portrayal of WHITE PEOPLE being subjugated after losing all their former power and being brainwashed to hate themselves (white guilt). Paradis is based on Germany and has a lot of parallels with NS Germany. Hajime Isayama is a pro-Imperial Japan nationalist, etc. Attack on Titan is clearly a story about white people (we can also draw parallels with the Japanese) having lost all their power and influence, all their empires and being subjugated by the winning side of the war (J€√√$).

lol "they're white so they can't be metaphors for Jews but they CAN be metaphors for Asians"
