This episode is the epitome of emotion. From utter despair at the beginning with Marlowe, to hype when Levi shows up and annihilates Zeke(though to give Zeke some credit, he seems better with long range due to the proportions of his arms, so fighting Levi up close without warning was basically an assured loss), to shock when the Titan on all fours saves Zeke, to tension as both sides are reaching their limits, to PAIN when Armin gets scorched, to slight relief when Hange is okay, and then back to pain as we see that the battle seems to be over. But the victory is pyrrhic at best due to the devastating losses.

@@abnelyeager To be honest, he got his ass whooped pretty quick by Eren. You'd think a guy who called out his friend for being "weak" or "useless" wouldn't have then proceeded to get his ass handed to him by Eren, a guy who's had his titan powers for like, a month at that point. It's not directly his fault, but Reiner failed to do anything of worth this battle. He killed ONE guy, the scout he stabbed when he was found inside the wall. After that, he did nothing of note... well, save for injuring Sasha. Hell, the Cart Titan this final battle Arc did more to help the other Warriors than Reiner did.

I love the parallel between Erwin/Armin and what they did. Both Erwin and Armin are looked at to find a solution, to find a way to save the day in a completely helpless situation when nobody else has an answer. They both do the same thing. They sacrifice not only their lives but their dreams of the basement and the sea and put their trust in their closest friend. Erwin trusts Levi to make good on his promise to kill the Beast Titan and because of the strength of that trust he can March himself and hundreds of soldiers directly into certain death, knowing Levi will take down the Beast Titan. Armin trusts Eren to the point that he will stare death in the face as the heat turns his flesh into ash and never let go because he knows that Eren will make good on his promise. Erwin and Armin are both geniuses, leaders, and expert strategists and when it came down to it, their best option was to sacrifice their dream and their life just to give their best friend the chance to make good on a promise.

Death is much more painful than being eaten by a titan. He did not back down and held on until the very end. Armin is a real hero

attack on titan is so exhausting because it's just the characters realising how much they mean to each other too late and with no time -.- like every relationship in the show feels like 'maybe, in another life, but we don't have time' and it's so tragic. This whole arc is just showing that love is more terrifying and destructive than Atom-Bomb Bertoldt ever could be, and it's great and i'm so sick of it :(
