Akuma no Ko has to be SSS tier or there is a riot. Many of the other endings are also dope though. I especially like the S3 ED with HIstoria and the S4 Falco ED with the paths tree. Just chills.

I feel like red swan gets the hate because it sounds so fundamentally different than all the other OPs. They’re all hype, high energy and intense songs meanwhile red swan is just a somber, melodic tune. Otherwise I can’t seem to find one legitimate reason as to why anyone actually hates it. Haven’t heard one good critique to this day 🤷🏼‍♂️

Red Swan is artistically sublime. That's why. You really need to get into the emotional depth of AoT to get that feeling required to feel Red Swan. For most people, AoT means humanity's battle against titans. Red Swan and My War are the only OPs which tell us that what this story really is about is the human condition.

It often doesn't fit the vibe of the season, there's a tonal whiplash. The serene "fly to heaveeeeen" and then you get dropped to people getting their faces shot off and more than colossal mutant turkey titan dragging itself across the ground. My War is also way different than many other OPs, but its psychedelic composition and visuals sell the eeriness, madness and confusion when we have to start to question what even is right and deal with the insanity that drives humans to war and genocide. It fits perfectly.

Okay. Red Swan. I want to start by saying I think Linked Horizon did a great job with their OP's at the time. But the story really outgrew them. Yes I still love them and think they are great. But Red Swan is everything the story turned into. Right as everything is beginning to change for the characters, them realising it's not so black and white and fully losing their innocence, is the perfect time for this song. Right before everything really changes, with the basement reveal, Eren's dream of freedom being turned against him and corrupted from something innocent, to the dark thing it became, this show decides to take a look back at what used to be. What could have been, had this world been less cruel. Children who don't get to be children because they bear the weight of the world on their shoulders. And it's not their fault. It's just the world they were born in to. And realising that, right before you discover the truth of this world is so important. Not realising that, is what leads to situations like the Marley and Eldia conflict. Yes, Linked Horizon's songs are cool and they're exciting. But They don't really mean anything. At least not compared to how important Red Swan is.

I would put 6 and 7 in S, 1-3 and Under the Tree in A, 4 and 5 in C (not familiar with the last one). Don't know if I can say this right, but for the most part I am not of the mindset that iconic = good, and really all of these songs (espescially 1,3, and 7) are very iconic and recognizeable as the themes of this world. That being said if I'm just listening to the songs as songs and not being drawn into the hype of AOT/SNK only 6 and 7 stand up to me. The rest while still very good I think are really amplified by the show. Also for the hell of it Tsubasa = Wing/s, Jiyuu = Free/Freedom

I personally love opening 5 the most (s3p2 path of aspirations and corpses) among all linked horizon. Being a throwback to the previous ones makes the season being the climax better.
