He's on point, and after watching his analysis, most of the other reactors just doesn't hold up. The only one I like, that I can think off the top of my head is Jake and SOS Bros. SOS bros for the fact that they react to other heavy anime, like Monster and Legend of Galatic Heroes. I actually feel like he would like the two series too. Some references/foreshadowing that society outside the walls was advanced (some you missed some you caught): Whenever they show a flashback of Armin showing Eren and Mikasa his book that talks about the sea, one of the illustrations in the book depicts a barrel of oil. This implies the book was created during an industrial era Ymir finding the can of herring. Not only does the existence of canned food imply an industrialized society, but herring itself is a salt water fish, found only in the sea. Also can you imagine the amount of bricks Reiner was sh*ting for him to suddenly realize Ymir could read that language while he was in the middle of his Soldier persona lmao In Ymir's flashback, the weapons the police use are more advanced than the guns in the walls (and that was 60 years ago) The Warriors drinking coffee Zeke using baseball terms This one is more of a translation error, but when Ymir questions Reiner and Berutoto about the Beast Titan, she refers to it as a monkey. Eren's internal monologue in the anime made it sound like he didn't know what they were talking about, which was partly true. What he really meant was that he had no idea what the word "monkey" was. This one is more speculation, but the reason Grisha was able to cure everyone of the plague was because of his more advanced medical knowledge.
@annaairahala9462
@annaairahala9462 3 жыл бұрын
That last point isn't speculation... He was able to cure the plague because of his advanced medical knowledge. I have a theory though that is pure speculation, that Grisha was the one who unintentionally brought the plague along with him, something the outside world already had and gained resistance to, but the walls were isolated from and thus susceptible to it

I've seen another person mention that the birds we've been seeing since season one are indigenous to ocean specific areas, hence the Wallist proximity to the sea and that being a hint to better understand their location geologically. As I'm not knowledgeable on the different types of bird and the rules of animal migration, I can't confirm this but I thought it was another interesting thing to note. 👀

Since you were wondering about it, Grisha died when he was 39 years old. I love that this episode really lets us breath and reflect on what has led up to this point. The story post basement is gonna be a whole other experience, which is also why I really like that they put the ending before we got that glimpse at Grisha's childhood. That was a pretty damn great discussion already, I expect next week will be supremely entertaining. You're not wrong to divide the series into before the basement and after. Isayama has worked some magic with this story. I appreciate you taking the time to talk about the rest of the episode too, especially the trek through the city. people that call some arc or scenes in shingeki no kyojin as FILLER are dumb people. Like really.. each scenes are actually THE STORY. Even Jean's Cooking OVA, the Ilse's Notebook, etc. it's all not filler. it's important. in fact, there is no scenes in shingeki no kyojin that we can relax. they always have intense and serious atmosphere. and also no time to get horny. unlike lot of anime.. there are like.. relax time, beach sexy time, etc.

Is it coincidence that those even using the word "filler" would be accustomed to 800 episode bloated shitshows and also appear to be casual snk viewers who don't think the quieter episodes through properly? Probably not coincidence, no. I have friends like this who play games at the same time as "watching" and have the audacity to call parts of shows like this "slow". It's plainly just lazy mass-consumption viewership and seems to comprise a particular subset of the general anime audience.

Use the power of the titans to completely bitch out the Marleyans on the battlefield. And B. Enslave people, *including many of his own people*. Which is just such a historically realistic and biblical sounding way of looking at it. They were a warring nation in the dark ages that used a power to their advantage just like their enemies would have. Because we were kind of all savages back then. And that’s the point of the story. This is just another conflict from 2,000 years ago that shouldn’t matter, it only continued to be what it was because of the supernatural threat of the titans. However it’s realistically the same threat that Marley and many other nations already, STILL to this day pose to each other. There is never any justification from any ancestry that can justify this. This episode was tantalizing, but the following episode was the one that absolutely blew my mind. I was prepared for anything to be in the basement by this point in the story, ranging from nothing to a supercomputer. The initial choice of a few books and a photo don't seem like a game-changer because they're nothing crazy at a first glance. But the way Isayama builds a narrative around Grisha's past from this point forward is truly incredible. Excellent analysis as always, I'm excited for the 3x20 reaction!

You are so sharp man. What most amazes me is the fact that this show allows for those kind of speculations... it’s like a riddle which you should be able to solve because you have all informations you need, but still you can’t be sure about your deductions : there could always be a game changer behind the corner. All this without compromising the reality of this world, which feels like could actually exist : it’s all so coherent.

My favorite scene in this episode is hearing grisha tell Eren that he'll show him what's in the basement when he realizes what's most important of all. Such a beautiful scene man, and the little remix to the ost at the end was str8🔥🔥

The most important goal of the whole series during these 3 seasons was just a window to a whole world. This is the moment that divides the two big parts of the story.

You have my utmost respect. I've watched several reactions and clips of aot already but your reaction and analysis still gave me new lights! Thank you!

I'm glad you waited to watch the OP until this point. While I didn't see many people complain that much about it, I feel that it (along with the episode 12 post-credit scene) allows viewers to map out what turns out to be the first six episodes of this part. While it mainly reveals future action sequences, the worst part I feel is the revelation of Armin acquiring the Colossal Titan. At least the main ED and the one-off EDs are all excellent. What did you think of the OP? I liked the walk through Shiganshina and it concluding with the Grisha flashback. It provides a kind of reverse portrayal of his character development; from absent, revolutionary father to one who knows "the most important thing of all." The walk also parallels the Fay and Grisha flashback; Eren and Mikasa reminisce on the good old days and "that day," and then Grisha's flashback starts on what seems to start on "the good old days," with Fay and Grisha being sweet and chasing a zeppelin. However, the walls, guards, and armbands foretell doom in the future. The scene transitioning from Hange to Grisha speaking is a great moment. Grisha will finally tell his son his story, the "truth of this world."

Yes, I do doubt that Zeke felt the same way about the people within the walls as Reiner did. He even said how tragic it was, even getting angry at the fact that King Reiss stole the memories of the people within the walls and how they're doomed to repeat their mistakes as if to say that he felt pity at their unjust situation.

Based on the car, their garb, and the Zeppelin (which was used very early in the 20th century) I would say that it feels more like the 1910s. Early 1930s at the very latest, but I wouldn't even put it there. The Zeppelin looks a bit more like earlier models, too.

What starts as and remains a story of perspective on people being oppressed by monsters. It now evolves into something else. An alternate emotional and twisted look and discussion of the hive mindsets that allow genocide, and the endless cycle of war and terrorism that we see ourselves still trapped in to this day. This show is a fantastic dark cautionary tale. Welcome to the real story my friend, I absolutely can not wait to hear your opinions and theories to come.

The more anime you watch the more references to what seems like Nazi Germany. I think it reflects a lot on Japan's position in WWII and even furthers it when you see how the USA tends to be depicted in anime. Many popular anime like AOT, even Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood seem to show some of these themes.
