You see, when Eren saw what the outside world was really like, he was disappointed by it, because the ocean that he’d always wished to see with Armin, his vision of freedom, just turned out to be another wall, with nothing but enemies on the other side. He was so disappointed that he wanted to ‘wipe it all away’ and ‘turn all the earth into a brand new land’, just like he said in the final arc. So his goal, while also to save his friends, was to destroy the world and rebuild it in the same way he and Armin had imagined it to be when he was younger. However, he was stopped before he could do so.

He wanted to wish everything outside the walls away because it wasn't what he had hoped. It was full of enemies and lands taken by people so none of it followed the book.

MANGA SPOILERS I mean, seriously, people are saying that Eren crying right before he’s about to DIE, after he’s caused the death of 80% of humanity and realized that he’ll never live to his dream, ‘ruins’ his character? That makes absolutely no sense. The Jaegerists are just pissed that Eren wasn’t capable of wiping out 100% (Pretty similar to how the Nazis were pissed that Hitler didn’t complete the Holocaust…)
