My grandmother manned the AA guns on the south east coast. I've read Spikes diary and novels, the goons hold a special place on my heart. I would visit the de la ware pavilion with my nan when she was alive. She would tell me about the sea defences and how they would shoot at doodle bugs, bombers fighters etc. Thanks for this video it's kinda touched me if that makes sense.

The Tuskegee Airmen had red tails, as did several units. Theirs was not just the rudder, but the whole tail being red. Also, they flew P51s, if I remember correctly.

@@StevenVenette P 40, P 39, P 47, and P 51. They were busy! Seems they only missed a few American fighters. P 38 from the army side, and two navy fighters. F6F and F4U. Did I miss one?

It is a myth that the Redtails never lost a bomber to enemy aircraft under their escort. The following is from an AP article in the Tuscaloosa News (an Albama town about 140 miles to the northwest of Tuskegee) published December 11, 2006, "Air Force records show that at least a few bombers escorted by the red-tailed fighters of the Tuskegee Airman were shot down by enemy planes, William F. Holton, historian of Tuskegee Airmen Inc., said in an interview Monday with The Associated Press." The article then goes on to cite excerpts from some mission reports that clearly stipulate the losses of bombers to enemy aircraft. The Redtails were very good, but they were not perfect...no one is.

Cap, you need to use your prop more. Setting a lower RPM increases speed. Don’t go silly, but 2,400rpm is faster than 2,700rpm as the prop blades angle to take a bigger ‘bite’ of air each rotation, a deeper helix per turn.

Moriarity could also have flown the de Havilland Mosquito, which the Brits used in the night-interceptor role.

Problem (I think) is that too many people are yanking the planes off the ground instead of letting them fly off themselves. They let the tail come up but pull back too soon. The plane has enough momentum to get momentarily airborne, but without enough lift to counter the engine torque. I'm a terrible warbird pilot and I make this mistake all the time!

Always been fascinated by the hypothetical of how the war would have gone if Germany attacked only radar installations, airfields and then naval targets. I think they would have won the BoB, gaining near complete air superiority and successfully invaded Britain. I don't think it would have changed the outcome of tie war, and neither would taking Moscow have won them the war, but it likely would have extended it by a couple of years, and would almost certainly have gone on long enough to see atomic bombs used against the Germans, which was the original presumption of the designers about how the weapons would most likely be used.
