The sad truth about these gentle giants is they live in isolation because their ecosystem can’t sustain their food supply in numbers in the territory they live in and it’s a large area. Mothers raise their young until they’re around 8 years old & teach them everything. Females stay longer than males & then live on the outskirts of the mothers territory then see one another a few times a year when the food source is abundant. She will eventually take over the mother’s area. Mothers only give birth about every 8 years sometimes longer. They will even have twins but not enough food to sustain all 3 or even 2 so she could lose one or both depending on the year. So it’s a shame this guy didn’t grab something more substantial and healthy. 💔 it’s extremely rare to see an orangutan in the wild!

When I was in Borneo we would watch Orangutans come up and just take stuff from people. They've learned that pretty much anything in a plastic bag or wrapping is probably food and and they have no fear of humans so they will just go up and take stuff from people all the time. I watched one go up to someone take their backpack off, open it up and take the snacks out and throw the backpack over some bamboo hand railing with not a care in the world. Lol
