I'm back again... I really admire how you're promoting Indian culture and creating that sense of national pride. This is something that your country can really be proud of. I don't know about how things are in India, but in Zambia I have come across attitudes amongst the people that unless something is from "the West" (or at the very least South Africa) then it isn't good or it isn't worth paying for. So for example, if I was a local perfumer and made high quality products, many of my people would dismiss my product as inferior to even the most basic entry-level mass-produced synthetic rubbish from a western brand. It's the brainwashing at work and it's really quite sad and disheartening to see that inferiority complex.

Beautiful. It's wonderful & necessary to have someone who understands historical contexts and civics coupled with rich tradition and legacy to bring this aspect of attar making to an uninformed western culture. Merely as an observer I'm still proud of the tradition displayed here. Thank you Dr.Nikhil for sharing this with the public. I recall our brief discussion on "civics". Honors, Mosiah

When you're discussing the point about keeping some of the old/traditional practices and give the example of the weigh scales still being used instead of digital scales, it's just the same way that the triple-beam balance is still used to weigh fighters today in boxing. It's to maintain the connections to the past. Just because new things have been introduced or techniques changed, it doesn't mean the roots should be forgotten. My favorite part of the video was 9:22 - 11:12 when the big man started telling some harsh truth about how people don't appreciate the primary producers yet willingly hand over money to pretentious perfume shops. We spend our money rewarding the ones who do the marketing rather than the ones who make the product. I like the passion that he speaks with. Respect.

Dr Nikhil, man you are my no 1 youtube vlogger right now. Superb reviews & the exact kind of information I always wanted to get about perfumes. Didn't knew much before & l always thought only premium brands make good perfumes & still i was not sure which premium perfume to buy. You introduced us to the world of attar & perfume reviews & has helped me a lot in buying some nice fragrances. Atleast now i know which brands to go for & also that not only premium brands whose perfumes cost upwards of ₹10k to 15k make good perfumes. I too have been fond of attars & nice perfumes since my teenage but always bought what was available in local shop. There was a keeda in back of my mind to know about perfume world but didn't took it seriously. So, this eid i decided to google best tp 10 brands of attar in India & the sequence of searches led me to Ajmal brand & your KZbin Channel (both of them). I am so glad that i found this channel. I have acquired so much knowledge in these past 1-2 months. Lol, i have seen so many of your reviews that now if i play your videos, my wife also recognises whose channel i am watching. Thanks a lot man.... Btw, i heard you are a doctor. MBBS?

This video really spoke to my heart. There are two things that annoy me a lot with consumers nowadays. First the presumption that only modern things are good and traditional things are bad. Second that they don't know how to appreciate the work and quality of raw material that goes into a product. That whole attitude of 'Why should I spend much on good Attar if I can get it for a few bucks in the market and anyway western perfumes are more fancy.' With expensive western perfumes a lot of the money you pay is for the large scale advertisement campaigns and design of the bottle only. The scents itself on the other side are often produced as cheaply as possible, synthetic and deluded with lots of alcohol. Doesn't mean all western fragrances are bad, but when you buy Sauvage by Dior for example, you pay a lot not for the fragrance, but for Jonny Depp to be there in the advertisement. Western perfumes are fine, but they are not better by any means to traditional craftsmanship which doesn't need big advertisement campaigns but the quality of which speaks for itself.
