After choosing two points on either side of Dartmoor National Park, we attempted to walk between them in a completely straight line (obstacles be damned). This "straight line mission" was inspired by the channel @GeoWizard.

Everytime you think you have reached the bottom of the straight line iceberg, you find another.

Amazing achievement - and great filming! As a big fan of @GeoWizard (and Dartmoor), I'd been planning a similar mission for my channel, but have been putting it off, knowing that it would be hell🤣. Well done, lads!

Fantastic achievement on doing the walk in a straight line. What I found even more fantastic though was the production value of the film. The cinematic shots just blew my mind. I was really impressed that you managed to capture these lovely scenes so well. We know Dartmoor quite well & have walked into some of the most difficult terrain so I know that it's very difficult just to get through it let alone manage to concentrate on getting those gorgeous cinematic shots. Very well done. 👏

Nicely done; well done guys! I'm a big fan of Geowizard's antics, and watching someone complete a straight-line mission across my favourite place in the world, is awesome!

Absolutely fascinating challenge. As a Ten Tors kid 86,7,8 and 9 I can fully understand this wild and inhospitable place but love it deeply all the same… Cracking route - genius planning with food dumps and a brilliant debrief with all the tech we have at our disposal, today. Well done and thanks for posting. 🙏

what a fantastic film and achievement! well done! The filming was spot on, some really inspiring shots there, even more so considering the weather as well. I have thought of doing something similair, but knowing dartmoor as I do, thought , bugger that, lol. first of, USE HIKING POLES!!! everytime you crossed a river, i almost had a heartattack, lol.....3 points of contact for safety is always recommended on dartmoor IMO. Second, whan planning this, did you just pick to start/end or were there ofther options that didnt make the plan? Actually, just playing with os maps myself, it seems alot harder that just drawing a stright line. As ive said, a great achievement, well done.....ATB WJ

Thanks for the feedback. Will definitely remember hiking poles next time! Yeh, we spent several hours going over google earth and the os map to find some suitable lines. Then I went out beforehand to check a couple of potentially iffy spots on the various routes until we settled on our line. It took a while to find but we managed to find something doable! Glad you enjoyed the video

really enjoyed this, very different to other straight line missions though, i would of had 0 clue that is what you were doing if i missed the first 2 mins, no obstacles to go around or farmers fields to run through

Good effort, and a good idea to bury a cache. I much prefer this approach of public land where you're not crossing people's gardens and scaring them.

I use the rain fly of the backpack to make it flaot. works well for river crossings or even getting unto an island in a lake.

Great achievment! I have crossed a few rivers on Dartmoor and some of them incredibly dodgy, they are nothing like they look on the map.

Great stuff man! I really enjoyed the cinematography, all looks cool. My only gripe is "narration vs original dialogue". This was about 95% narration and I was seriously missing the in the moment stuff. Maybe due to having to make sure you're not seen? That was also weird. You film everything, but the guy on the screen hardly said two words? Anyhoo, keep at it! Love to see more!

Always carry a heavy duty bin liner….weighs nothing,takes up no space and can be used for a hundred and one things, namely putting all your gear in and floating it across rivers etc…….also….have you guys heard of ‘gaiters’??? P.S I enjoyed the video….always satisfying to see others going through the ringer👍🏻

On ten tors training, I once accidentally went to Fur Tor (while trying to go to Great Kneeset... genius, right??) and I can confirm that it is VERY wet the entire way round it. Congratulations though, this is an interesting challenge.

Very impressive - it has been on my to do list for a while, but after an extremely wet day on Dartmoor on New Years Eve I think it may be postponed even longer! Just one thing, I think gaiters would be a useful addition to your kit as they provide an extra layer of protection from the bogs. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks a lot! I'm not a professional but I'm a very keen videographer so wanted to bring that out in the video. It was a bit challenging running around trying to get the shots without slowing us down too much, but I think it was worth it in the end👍

As someone who has done many hikes on Dartmoor (eg Ten Tors), I'm impressed! How long did it take to find a route that didn't have uncrossable obstacles eg inaccessible land?
@jonospursuitofthewild7755
@jonospursuitofthewild7755 Жыл бұрын
It took many many hours looking at google earth and the os map! We had to visit a few obstacles in person before the trip to assess their viability, and we changed the route a few times accordingly
