@Cara-3912 күн бұрын
@@StonedtotheBones13 My involvement in the reptile community amounts to watching Snake Discovery and Clint semi-regularly, however, I do know reptile channels geared specifically for kids/families are few and far between. The exotic animal community on social media is filled with channels/creators focused more on making money than providing appropriate care and it has a major problem with animal hoarding, irresponsible handling of venomous reptiles, and fake rescue/release/sanctuary content, just to name a few. I like Ed & Emily, their channel does a good job educating viewers, particularly children, about reptiles and how to care for them appropriately. That said, I think their excessive breeding adds to the hoarding issues and they have far more animals coming in via surrender than being adopted so large animals are often housed in too small cages, sometimes for months, due to a lack of space. Large snakes like boas need more room than their standard racks can provide; even their bullsnake racks are too small for some larger snakes but without any space, a large boa spent 7 months in the cage one size up from the hognose and he could barely turn around. Very long story short lol, I think exotic animal keeping is a global problem but it's particularly bad here in the US, due to a lack of federal laws governing care, the few laws we do have are poorly enforced and private individuals should it should be illegal to own most wild animals like big cats, bears, primates...etc. The fact that there are more tigers in private ownership in the US than anywhere in the wild is proof of a hugh problem

I also want to shout out all the folks who let their mom vibes show when they bring you coffee, sandwiches, coolers packed with snacks… you name it. I see it at every show and it really warms my heart to see folks wanting to take care of you guys… y’all really do so much for the community and clearly help a lot of young folks feel seen and accepted. I know little girls who no longer think they’re weird for wanting a reptile over a pet dog because Emily is cool and so they must be cool by association. Emily’s exuberant reaction with every egg hatching and showing off just how adorable snakes can be went such a long way to helping me move past a fear I didn’t want but didn’t know how to get past. Now I look forward to someday meeting a hog nose in person and getting to hold a ball python. I don’t think I’ll ever own reptiles (its the feeding bugs or mice that gets me) but I love that it’s an interest of many of my friends that I no longer have to feel squeamish about. So yeah. Big thanks to those who go out of their way to take care of Emily and Ed when they’re on the road and giving so much of themselves to the community that adores them.

Now, a year and a half later, I have 45 crested geckos, 1 chewy, and two Leachies, 5 baby dalmatians, and 12 eggs in the cooker, with my first pair of stacked gene Axanthics to be hatched in July. It's like my reptile world has come full circle with your new crested geckos. I cannot thank you enough for the joy my new adventure in the reptile world has brought to my life. thank you. P.S. Ah, the Omnomlette diamond painting was so sweet, I miss that little pain in the tail 🥲 It was so cool to see the shot of the Axolotls! I wish you guys would have covered them, but I know y'all have a very busy time at the shows haha. Have you ever thought about getting into working with Axolotls? They are a beautiful and fascinating species, and the research done on them does a lot of good in the biomedical fields, plus they're great pets that I'm sure a lot of your audience would have an interest in. If your able to do so now that you have a curator, I would highly recommend it!

Emily is the best role model for kids! Thank You Snake Discovery for ALL you do! Emily and Ed are the types of people who should REALLY be considered Celebrities.......not those fake, plastic people who get so much attention ....you know who I mean.
