In this video, I explain my best tips for getting more tips at your gigs. I have played thousands of gigs over the last 50 years and I have tried dozens of different things to get people to give tips. Over the last few years, I feel like I have really narrowed it down to a few different factors that can make a huge difference in how much people decide to give.
Also, I have hundreds of other lessons for guitar players who like Jazz, Blues, Bebop, and Fingerstyle guitar arrangements. There are also a lot of lessons on guitar technique and guitar scales along with exercises meant to build your chops. Check them all out here: guitarcollegelibrary.com/
Streaming and download formats for both subscription and individual lessons are available.

On my tip jar there is a label that says 'TISP' people come up and say, 'Dude, you misspelled 'tips.' but they ALWAYS leave a tip.

Just played my second gig and first tip of the night was a $50. I was pretty stoked!

Gotta agree with all those good tips. One thing I've noticed lately is that if you start with a 20, it ends with a bunch of 20s. Why? Who knows? Maybe people are beginning to understand that they appreciate live music more than they did before now that it's back. Thanks for the tips (pun intended). I have a friend who drives a remote control car with a tip jar at table - level right up to your table. Now that's what I call presumptuous! Lol.

yup, when I busk I always put a 1, a 5 and sometimes a 10 dollar bill. If you leave a 1, people give you 1's, if you leave a 5, they give you 5's

When busking I had to put an eye bolt on the plastic jar with chain to keep from being robbed. Otherwise I used my empty guitar case. In clubs beer gardens I had a large glass vase. Sometimes people would try to make change. Since now most folks don't even carry cash have a buy me a coffee link that they can stay seated and tip via phone.

I tried using that same martini glass years ago - it’s too “flat” and the tips just kind of make a pile, and then wind from the door opening kept blowing tips out. Such a bummer, cuz I love that giant martini glass. If only there were some other use for it! 😉

What about the fact that many people don't carry around cash? Answer add a Digital Tip Jar to your ideas. Thanks..

Yes, Jeffrey! You're so right! Unfortunately, I am a little digitally challenged and am going to have to have my son Wes set me up a Venmo account so I can do that. Because it's so true... hardly anyone uses cash these days. Thanks for watching and commenting! Please subscribe!

Absolutely! This digital age in tips does add on to things. I bought a digital picture frame and send pics via Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. It's definitely worth giving a try. Play on Fam! 😄🤙 Aloha

I VOLUNTEER to play for a community center where older citizens don't have to pay for their lunch if they sign up for the senior free meal plan . I use a cowboy hat with a sign that says, "THANKS❤" It's placed on an empty table in front of the area where i play. Some of my background music i sing or play to when not playing guitar. I do a variety of music. Peopke say they love it but dont tip. What can i do about this. They dont pay but little, most live in two homes climate apart (snowbirds) but can't tip even One Dollar? I do put a few dollars in the hat you can see. What am i doing wrong?? I entertain with a variety of songs, instruments and free time. I live at poverty level, it costs gas and time in recording putting the music and tracks together and im a classical style guitar picker so its not just strumming a few chords. Should i dress "poorer"? Ive been playing and doing music since high-school and performed with a celtic band for 12 years and i have a good voice. So I'm not new at it. These prople live in two places, the center takes cash or checks only, when they do pay, -but i just get compliments and no tips. What am i doing wrong? Please, what can i do??😢
