Can you tell us what size Bonny Doon Hammer you are using in this video. Do you have a recommendation if purchasing only one from the three available hammer sizes. Thank you for the informative videos!

I would like to know more about the urethane hammer that you are using. They seem to come in different sizes. What is the size or weight of the one you are using? Thank you so much for this video!
@AlwaysMetaling3 жыл бұрын
The hammer is made by @BonnyDoon. It is sol by most jewelry supply stores, like @RioGrande.com, www.riogrande.com/searchresults#q=Bonny%20doon%20urethane%20hammer%20&t=products&sort=relevancy&layout=card&numberOfResults=12 I use the 16 oz. and it works for so many things.

You give the easiest to follow tutorials on youtube, so thank you. I hope I win so I can add to my tools and try something new!

I watched before but wasn’t aware it was gift giving time. I make bangles and would get a lot of mileage from some of the new Dies but understand that I do live in Australia and sending my prize by courier of post would certainly be overly expensive. Thank-you for the education through KZbinrs’ eyes. I have learnt so much more than paid lessons, from you MrBerry. My sincere thanks.

if you have a roller printed pattern, why doesnt it hammer out when you form on the die?
@Atthebench4 жыл бұрын
The hammer is not hard enough to flatten/planish the pattern.
@AlwaysMetaling3 жыл бұрын
The hammer is plastic as opposed to metal therefore it doesn’t damage your pattern where it was roller printed on a mill or hammered in using stamps. The plastic/rubber hammer does NOT damage your patterns, only forms the metal or shapes the metal. Do NOT use a metal hammer ever. Remember, rubber/plastic on metal OR metal on plastic/rubber formers.

I have the original set which is great, are Durston selling an add on set?
@AlwaysMetaling3 жыл бұрын
Yes. You’ll easily find them on their website.

Lovely. Andrew, what standard length do you typically use on your bangles? (For example, that beautiful bangle with the rolling milled pattern you showed at the end of your video?)
@deeoneal12674 жыл бұрын
i believe the standard for a cuff is 1/2” less than your actual wrist measurement.

I love this type of bangle! Would all texturing be done first, then do the shaping?
@Atthebench4 жыл бұрын
Yea. Texture the flat piece of metal first and then shape and hammer after
@Vgudorf4 жыл бұрын
What beautiful dies! How do you keep your set up from shifting while hammering? Does a normal horizontal vise hold the mandrels firmly enough to prevent that from happening? I thought it would be necessary to use a vertical vise in order to counter act that effect.
@Atthebench4 жыл бұрын
Hi. There is a pin that goes through the end of the carrier rod that stops the dies from coming off.
@Vgudorf4 жыл бұрын
@@Atthebench Nice! Not needing a vertical vise is a big plus for these tools. I was eyeballing another system that would require one, as well as the forming dies.

You can buy them at Durston.com or at ottofrei.com or most anywhere that Durston products are sold. I am in Arizona and I bought mine at Durston’s website, also using a 20% off promo code (now expired). The shipping was expensive (about $41) but it arrived fairly quickly. I LOVE it as I make lots of synclastic cuffs more than anticlastic cuffs. Hope this helps.
@judyfountain71874 жыл бұрын
Xu have never seen those before! Amazing! That entire set must be expensive. Can they be sold separately? Or in groups? Those seem so efficient, what a time saver!!!
@Atthebench4 жыл бұрын
You have to buy the set. Not available in singles I’m afraid
@judyfountain71874 жыл бұрын
Andrew Berry what is the price of the set?
@AlwaysMetaling3 жыл бұрын
@@judyfountain7187 On the Durston website, durston.com/product/10pc-bangle-forming-die-set/, the cost is $343. Try to purchase it when/if you can use a promo code. @LucyWalkerJewellery.com is where I got the promo code about a week ago. @LucyWalker has some of the BEST training classes for metalsmiths who are either just learning or for experienced metalsmiths wanting to brush up or looking for inspiration.

I have similar dies but need a proper vice for them. What exactly do you recommend? Thank you ~ Theresa in Southern California
@Atthebench4 жыл бұрын
The minimum is a 4 inch or 100mm vice bolted to a secure bench.
