So as a retired jockey...i watched this video numerous times. Stowell and rider took up a tracking position through out the race. Frankie knowing his only real competition was his stable mate Stowell tucked/trapped inside of him. Frankie held Stowell in the box as long as he could and just before turning for home launched into an all out run. Stowell had 3 choices pull back and go outside of the two leading horses once turning for home following Famkie, split the two leading horses which he tried to do but the inside leading horse drifted out into his path causing him to check back and then go left down on rail and chase down Frankie who has then taken a six length lead and nearly beat Frankie loosing by half a head. I've read through multiple comments and everyone seems to believe he did not want to win. Trust me this is the furthest thing from the truth. I believe the stewards made a massive mistake giving him days. Total BS...he should fight this tooth and nail. Look the decision he made was the best he had at the time. These decisions are made in split seconds. Unless you've been there you have no idea. If you lost money on the race...blame Frankie. While Frankie did nothing illigal and did everything he could do to win. He is the one that took you money lol. Dont piss and moan about loosing if you are going to gamble. Secondly i know for a fact if you've never been a jockey you should not be allowed to be a steward...period.

I personally don't see alot wrong with the ride, alot of jockeys are told not to be too hard on a horse on debut and give it a nice experience round, like someone om here said not like the winner was backed down from 20s into even money. A fast finishing horse always looks faster when the horse infront is being eased down anyway. The horse looked like it got unbalanced rounding the home turn too and just needed to find it's feet.
@2x2matrix3 жыл бұрын
If the speed figure on the bottom left hand corner is to be trusted, the situation seems to be Polling Day, after shooting clear with a great turn of foot (32 mph to 40 mph), it idled significantly due to greenness (dropping to 36 mph), but when Stowell closed in quickly in the final 100 yards (Havlin was riding okay at that time), Polling Day picked up to 38 mph again. True, Stowell took the lead a couple of strides after the finishing line, but it seems Polling Day still has fuel in his tank to fight back. So, I'd say if Havlin made hard effort 50 yards earlier, Stowell would probably be the winner. But strangely, if Stowell had caught up with Polling Day, say, 1 furlong out, it would not be clear whether Stowell could draw clear or Polling Day could fight back. The current outcome is the ugliest looking with probably the most unfortunate timing of events
@seanscanlon90673 жыл бұрын
I cannot really see much wrong here by Havlin. The winner had won already and so had a bit more experience than the second making its debut and the winner got first run. On coming off the final bend it looked at one stage as if Havlin was going to pull to the outside of the other two runners until they swung wide and left a gap up the rail that Havlin switched to, when he could have carried on steering his horse wide if deliberately looking to get beaten and if there was anything dodgy here then I doubt the owner of the second will be too impressed. The Racing Post comment state: Jockey said, regarding running and riding, that his instructions were to settle the colt and ride him to obtain his best possible position. He added that the colt was a fragile type who had a high knee action, and that John Gosden had instructed him to ride the colt hands and heels and not to use his whip. Havlin stated that he was happy with his position in behind the leaders but added that the pace had slowed at half-way which he felt had not benefitted. He added that upon entering the final bend he was caught on the heels of Scampi, after which he switched to the inside and his mount ran on well inside the final half furlong. He further stated that, in his opinion, the winner was idling in front and therefore it appeared that the colt had finished faster than he actually had and that in time, the colt would likely benefit from racing on turf with ease in the ground; Trainer's rep stated that he was happy with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given and that they were very pleased with this, first run.

I think this ban was very harsh. Havlin should appeal. He was riding a horse having its first race; what was he supposed to do subject him to a hard race and sour him for life. The Lingfield stewards need to go back to stewards school. If Havlin had used his whip ten times or over shoulder height he would only have got seven-days at most. Shows racing in a poor light when a jockey gets a longer ban for being, in essence, kind to a horse, than if he had beat the crap out of it.

I'm going to stick up for Havlin here. Bent ride no Bad ride yes. Jockeys that sit on the inside waiting for the gap usually wind me right up especially when the horse that wins the race comes down the outside. But on this occasion not sure Havlin could have pulled the horse out as there was a bend, he could have done it much earlier of course but he probably thought the two horses in front would slowdown quicker than they did. Just a bad ride for me.

He’s stopping riding up the home straight tugging the reign back and not pushing the horse out to go win
@Ashtonnizzle Жыл бұрын
The proof of crookedness of the ride was not getting trapped on the inner. It was the fact that when he was in the clear up the straight, he waited for the winner to get too far in front before he rode him out properly. Despite that he still nearly won by accident. A proper hands and heels ride up the straight without picking up the stick would have seen him win easily. This wasn’t about the educating the horse. It was about making sure he didn’t win. Bent!!

This does not change the jockey mind set. Cause he's still been riding this way. Check most is mount for jhon gosden same tactics on first time runners. I personally think that he's just there to school horses.
@perryberman28242 жыл бұрын
That was a weak suspension considering that it was the horse's first race and the owners and trainer didn't have a problem with the ride. He did what they told him to do. I think they succumbed to public pressure because if the horse was 9-2 and not 2-9 no one would've said a word.

Anyone who knows me on youtube knows i am the first one to give out about racefixing if you want to fix a race there is loads of ways to do it ie miss the break from the stalls go too fast from the front get into traffic problems. The biggest problem i have is these horses arent being ridden to obtain the best finishing position when they are supposed to and that is cheating the racecourse isnt a training ground.

People talking about 'corruption'...the winner was not a horse backed from 20-1 into 5-2 and landing a massive gamble. It was a 2-9 shot and likely not much money riding on this race, unless in multiples. I think a 21 day ban is extremely harsh when you take into account the runner up is a newcomer. So many ifs and buts n racing, but I seen a lot worse than this go unpunished. Wonder why the BHA making an example of Havlin?

@stevenbroadbent5773 жыл бұрын
I haven't checked but I would guess that was Stowell's first run as he ran exceptionally green. I would be mighty annoyed if I was Havlin or the Gosdens for being reprimanded...the horse was unbalanced on the bend and it clearly scared him...the BHA don't know what they are doing if they judge the rider to have been at fault for that ride. I doubt whoever judged that to be a poor ride has ever ridden a horse doing 38 mph in it's first race round a track. Poor decision.

Many rides we can question, the Irony is, this shouldn't be one, Franky nicked enough on the turn to hold on, sure Rab could have and probably should have stayed tight to the rail and got through earlier, but not by much, and he had to re-correct nearly riding into one at the start of the turn, very harsh. 16/1 not beaten far by a 2/9 shot, 21 days?
@princeofdeath60583 жыл бұрын
Im new to horse racing.. very new. Can someone explain to me what happened?
@tomr57853 жыл бұрын
The reason for the ban will be "not giving the horse the best chance to win". Specifically, the jockey was indecisive coming off the bend, switched from inside to outside, back to inside (allowing the leading stablemate to go clear) before riding a half-hearted finish, never drawing the whip, and losing by a nostril. The stewards clearly thought it was intentional, it may have been, although it could also have been a bad ride by a substandard jockey with poor judgement of the horse and race-riding. 21 days is a hefty ban for what may have been a strings of unintended errors, hence the debate in the comments; if it was a plot by Gosden for the winner to stay unbeaten, the jockey fully deserves the punishment (and more), but if the mistakes were clumsiness, he can feel hard done by. My guess is the ban may be reduced on appeal to 7 to 10 days.

Hard one this, nothing wrong with this ride until 2.23.. horse turns his head right wants to pull out wide I assume to follow his stable mate, jockey guides him back rail-side.. he does lose some crucial momentum but that’s definitely a horse error not a jockey one, and then.. he gets the gap through and doesn’t let his horse go, the only thing that doesn’t add up is the fact when he let the horse go and it rallied up he lost the race by a nose.. you can’t judge that on a horse making up ground like that so it definitely could of been his horse winning that by a nose.. if he didn’t want to win why would he risk that at all?.. conclusion is he 100% held back but I think he came to his senses approaching the post, that’s the only explanation, either way his horse should of won without a doubt.

I wish they would take this kind of action in the USA for these kind of corruption! There have been times in the USA when things have been 100 times more blatant !!. The latest now is the Stewards are now taking down the long shots for every little infraction while the favorite could kill 5 horses in the streach he will be awarded quickly with no inquiry!! This is done to boost sales at the track and keep the crowd betting for the rest of the day. This in turn makes the Stewards very popular with the track officials and in turn more inviting there with no complaints. As long as an unfair bad decision is popular at a track it works well ! Also remember Stewards buys Chalks too ! I am a long shot player and they make me sick, I am wondering when the Feds will be stepping in !
