Watching some of these more recent one's and this doc is old not only did Brian Wright get "inside information" which obviously isn't all it's cracked up to be as a horse can still lose a race even with said information, what he did do through bets from his crew was to "launder" his dirty drugs money buy getting his gang to bet the dirty cash and when he won it was returned "washed" in the form of new bills straight from the bank almost. So this doc just points to the tip of an iceberg as far as racing corruption goes. Still not bad. Unfortunately the BBC now only really produces reality trash and made up "historical drama". Serious investigative series like this have gone down the pan.

The follow up "Racings Dirty Secrets 2" is more relevant in terms of what Betfair brought to the table. The point about Wright was that the racing authorities (Jockey Club) turned a blind eye. Nowadays the BHA do exactly the same but spin it better.

I remember two jockeys that cheated on a regular basis .Jamie Osbourne would stop anything at a moments notice ,and another was Luke Harvey he would actually jump of a horse or make it fall he was so corrupt i never touched his horses he was so predictable .Harvey actually was so good at bringing down a horse that he was a stunt rider in the making of Braveheart the movie .but yes racing is more than corrupt it is more to suit the bookmaker they are the ones who profit from it they can buy any result they want.

@RandomOnes1

They aren’t of course… but the board decides who and when “gets caught”. If something looks extremely bent then they have to obviously take action…. Which at the most is a 2 month ban!!! If they pull it off and it looks kinda bent but could be realistic…. There’s an excuse for that and everyone involved makes money. They’re not above the board but are on the same team!

@@TracksuitDave Absolutely, as soon as a horse runs badly there's some who can say got at quick enough, horses are much more sterner tested these days, especially if they run way below expectations, plus the horse in question Augustine Rodin has won the Derby since.
@markchapman2933
@markchapman2933 Жыл бұрын
As others have said, Bobby; horses are not machines, they can run poorly for many reasons. One of O'Brien's 2000 Guineas horses, Little Big Bear has always been thought of as a sprinter. The 2000 Guineas is over further - a mile. Therefore at the longer distance horses have to go slower in order to stay the distance. At that race distance and speed Little Big Bear predictably pulled hard (wanting to go faster) and had nothing left for the finish. If Little Big Bear had been "nobbled" he would not have recovered when just three weeks later won returned to sprint distances. In contrast his other 2000 runner Auguste Rodin had always looked a middle-distance horse in the making. ie Once he'd matured was likely to be a one and a quarter mile to mile and a half mile horse. As an immature horse / two year old a mile is a fair test of stamina and therefore Rodin was able to win at the top level at a mile..Whereas a mile at the age of three is not such a test. Rodin just did not have the speed to quicken. Had he been as you claim "nobbled" he would not have recovered in the month between Guineas and Derby. The Derby is one and a half times as far as the Guineas. Rodin won the Derby pretty easily. Indeed, when racing at a mile and a quarter in the Irish Champion Stakes connections made sure the pace was a very strong one in order to make it as much of a test of stamina at that trip as possible. Rodin won, but had it been only a mile like the Guineas it would've been too short a distance. Also, at the time of the Guineas trainer O'Brien's horses were generally not in anywhere near as good form as they were a month later in the Derby. So the fitness of the two horses (especially when considering it was first time out in the season for both) may not have been as good either.

O'Brien has been at it for years pitting his so called weaker horses against his first choice horses in the same race with his outsider usually coming out on top.And now today its one of his sons outside horses beating his hot favourite .They have the punters for mugs.
@markchapman2933
@markchapman2933 Жыл бұрын
@@ukmeetthetyrantsisanARSEHOLE O'Brien wins with his "weaker" horses the number of times they can be expected to win. Say his first choice had an SP of 7/2 (something the market believes has a 20% chance of winning).... Now say there are four of his "weaker" horses running all at 14/1 (each one having around a 6% chance. With 4 X 6 = 24%). The market is actually saying the combined chance of the five "weaker" horses would statistically have a better chance than his "first choice". However, the number of times an outsider wins is exaggerated in your confirmation bias. Besides; if you're right "his outsider usually coming out on top"... Then it would be very simple. Don't know what you're complaining about. Just back the outsider and you'll be making loads of money in the long run!

Where there's money, there's corruption. It's a no-brainer that horse racing is corrupt. Of course it is. "Just taking some horses for a nice wee run. If you like, Mr Ladbroke over there will give you some money for guessing which one is fastest. Listen, tell you what, in case you're a bit rubbish at this sort of thing, we'll even get some experts to tell you which one is usually the fastest. Make it nice and fair for you.". Sounds legit.

+arthurV cat Not really. If a jockey is given a lot of money by gangsters as a teenager to pull horses and then rises up to be one of the most sort after jockeys in racing, the gangsters still have him in their pocket. They will have evidence on him and threaten to expose him unless he continues to pull horses at their behest - even if it is a Group 1 race (much more liquid markets so much more money for the criminals to make). Also a top class jockey may have a massive gambling habit, running into £100s of £1000s, to the point even his wife kicks him out when she finds the credit cards maxed out. So the bookies phone the top class jockey and politely say "if you pull horse A in tomorrows Group 1 race, we will write off £x,000s of your debt owed to us". If anyone thinks racing isn't rife with skulduggerry they either do not know the game very well or they are deluding themselves. When the racing media pay retainers to jockeys that have been exposed as cheats on audio recoridngs, and the BHA do nothing about it then we have no hope. Plus the people at the very top in racing, the ones with the real money, simply loath lower class people so couldn't give a flying f**k whether punters are swindled or not. Which is of course extremely disturbing as without punters and their hard earned, racing would revert to match races between rich land owners and/or farmers racing their horses around fields. Racing is the biggest gravy train known to man, but the only one I can think of where the people funding it are treated with such disdain.
@eddiejones3764
@eddiejones3764 9 жыл бұрын
+CONSIDERABLYMORE1 Cant disagree with any of that. it took me 3 months to realise the game is bent and the treatment of the punters is pretty disgusting, they don't even try to hide the fact that their a bunch of cheating scum some of the racing is so obviously set up its cringeworthy, the amount of times horses 2nd or 3rd in the market, well backed with mug money and they are caught wide at say Wolverhampton is ridiculous, some of them are drawn low and still get caught wide..  then there's the old chestnut of being "slowly away", and my personal favourite the good old bomb out in a 1m5f race and completely cook the horse and drop away at the 4 peg, only to come out nt and bolt up in a 1m race. the dirtiness of horse racing knows no bounds and like I say they don't even try to make it subtle any-more, its a case of "not today son, hold it up right at the back and don't even bother riding a finish, unplace it and get its mark down".. And the amount of times you see a race where you get one that's given a good lead (5-7l) and they don't even attempt to go after it is laughable as well, its like watching WWE wrestling. The only way to stop getting angry about it and stop losing money is to stop betting on it. You'll feel much better for it.

Take some of the races recently, Southwell AW, I haven't seen one odds on shot win in the past month, all of them beat and 95% of them beat out of sight, a lot not even making the frame. And you want to see a ride where they don't want to win, watch Kirby on Gabster, watch his win in the first of the same card and then watch that one, the difference is laughable, Gabster travels well, but he sticks it up the arse of a fading horse, gets into the clear switches outside, switches inside and loses a length.. never whipped it, just bounced up and down on it. contrast to the first where he's driving like a man possessed and whipping it every 2 strides.. disgusting sport, the sooner they blow the fucking tracks up the better.

You do know that only odds-on favourites should win more often than they lose? Most Evens favourites should lose (ie a better chance of losing than winning) let alone 2/1, 3/1 5/1 or 8/1 favourites etc.... And there are more races with odds-against favourites than odds-on favourites; therefore overall more favourites should lose than win. So it is only to be expected that a large number of favs are going to finish second.

Wherever money is involved John, there will be some skulduggery. However, if racing was generally "bent" then each price / odds would not win the amount of times they are expected to. But they do. Also, just because a horse is a short price does not mean it will win and just because a horse is an outsider does not mean it will lose. In a two horse race where the odds compiler / market believes Horse A has a 75% chance (fair 1/3) will - once a bookies mark up is added - will be offered at not 1/3 but 30/100 (or if the race is harder to evaluate eg a Maiden with little form ton go on 2/7). If one is thought a 75% chance then the other one must have a 25% (fair 3/1) chance... And is offered @ 11/4 or (in a maiden etc) 5/2. You might think a 2/7 shot should win, but many favourites are 11/4 and have the same chance as this 11/4 shot. Vast majority of gamblers will not make an overall profit because of the bookmaker's mark up / overround. However, with sports betting nobody knows for certain what the fair chance is of each horse / team etc. It can only be opinion. if Racing was "bent" then people like me would not be able to make good overall profits without any inside information . ie Solely by studying form and evaluating that form into chance better than the odds compilers / market. It's not about backing the horse with the best chance of winning, but those whose chance is underestimated by the market. If believing any horse has a 25% (fair 3/1) chance I'll add a small margin for error and back it only if able to get 7/2 or bigger. If believing another has the worst chance of all the runners has a 3% (fair 33/1) chance I'll add a small margin for error and back it if available @ 50/1 or bigger.

Excellent journalistic investigation report by the BBC. We all know that horse racing is not an honest sport . Whether it's thoroughbred or standardbred horse racing, we all have the perception that this sport is very corrupt all over the world. It's the same perception as our politicians their mostly all dishonest and corrupt. I love betting on horse racing in Canada, I play the same set of numbers in every race , win or lose, I don't care about a racing program or handicapping a race. I play my set of numbers, it's like playing the lottery.

Willie Carson telling Graham Bradley you did well....even though the Bradley was lying through his teeth...Carson said..i couldn't save you but he obviously went straight to the stewards to get the whole thing shut down. Close ranks, protect the industry. I suppose it's only natural to protect the industry you love. There's an obvious love of the horses and the game, but the whole industry wouldn't exist without betting and that means, there's so much money at stake, it's a bent industry, just like boxing. The bookies are also bent, completely, refusing payouts, they're just like casino's.

do you know how they post those racing post ratings, they use the proximity of horses in races with there official ratings and then what weight the horses is allocated from its last run say he finished 1 length in front of a 97 horse both were carrying 9 stone the rating depends on the distance of the race up to 3 pound equals a length up to a mile then it gradually decreases until they reach 2 miles and over then it is 1 pound equals one length, this is very complicated but easy for handicappers like me,, it is based on horses around each other in races and there ratings and what weight they get in the next races and what class of race they are allowed to enter, claimers, the trainer can put in his own weight if he wants his horse to win he will put it in he thinks it can win, but then it is likely it can be bought cheaper as the lighter the weight the cheaper the price it is sold for, say the distance was one mile then he would get a rating of 100 , it depends on what weight he is allocated for his next race to get his rpr, if he is allocated say 9 stones he will get a further 14 added to 100 to make his rpr 114, this is because the ceiling for flat is 10 stone and jumps 12 stone , then you have horses trained by owners that have hidden their form and kept for Saturdays for owners for betting, they mostly have good horses to work with so the trainer knows what rating he can run at and enters them in races they can win, then there is non triers trying to get handicap down, i have a successful tipping page which is free it is a group and we only take owners of horses now in the group, HORSERACING UK on facebook, i can pick winners at will, but this is only because i have worked hard at this for 35 yrs, all these tipping sites popping up these days can create skulduggery as to many folk are betting same horses in accumulators for small stakes so the powers that be stop a few from winning some how, paying off jockeys is my guess, the top speed figures are not really helpful to be honest, it is better to do your own speed figures these work well on the all weather, a sort of your own time form ratings, also the racing post rpr on two yr old races for the past 6 yrs have been way off, i use my own figures for two yr olds and breeding, i come up with some big priced winners every yr the 2 yr old handicapper at the racing post who ever it is is not very good i would say, this can be sued at my advantage as people use these rpr to price races up and i know he has got it wrong , basically he overrates to many races cant give to many secrets away, i am going to set up a free tipping site and you tube in the future, but wont be giving secrets away as i have worked hard to get these , there are many variables and also now skulduggery , avoid these for succseful betting ..i help people everyday i do not charge one penny as i make my own money from betting, i usually try to make money from small stakes like £5 yankees £10 yankees as bookies wont take big bets on singles no more and betting exchanges, are time consuming for me and distracting, if i had one tip i will give a way free, at Wolverhampton lay horses in running that kick for home in front before the 2 fulrong pole, 99% have been losing, the tapeta is a great surface for riding a race and those horses who used to kick and win cannot do that here and most get caught, only 1% have won by kicking early from every race .. this you dont need to pick horses but can win on my formula stick to it and you will win money, any one wanting to get in touch with me you know my name for advice. god luck all and win big

+Zenny Racing is no different from WWE wrestling, once you've watched it for a few years and watched 1000s of races you see the patterns, the same crap over and over again. once you've watched it for a few years like I say you know whether you have a "trier" straight after the jump.. if a jockey sticks his horse 4 horses wide half way down the pack at Wolverhampton... you know your fucked after a 100 yards.. just an example.

I think it's because if an owner/trainer bets a huge sum on a horse that has no chance in the race, the odds would be slashed on that horse which will then make it one of the 'favourites' which will result in lots of punters betting on it due to it being a 'favourite'. The bookies then get tons of money back once the horse doesn't win/place.

in theory any runner in a handicap can win whatever the market price says , but of course you do not have to be very clever towards rewatching after the race c/o the sporting life web site ., and if you spot what you believe is a crooked ? outcome then of course all you have to do is contact the racecourse stewards ? but a lot of races seems to be lost via poor judgement rather than otherwise ?

There must be a good reason for a jockey pulling up, otherwise the stewards will have his guts for girth. Jockeys are only allowed to pull a horse up if there is something wrong with the horse or has no chance of being in the places that affect prize money.

@@vm5954 True, many horses are at their best dropped out the back and coming with a late run. Every race I bet in I go through noting which horses need to lead, like to lead, race prominently, track pace, held up or dropped out. As in the wild. some horses are natural leaders and some are natural followers. Those that are dropped out usually have a history of racing that way or have something physically wrong with them that's caused them to drop back. Not many are there because they're being "stopped".

There probably are a few stables, jockeys, owners that indulge in race fixing down the lower end of racing. Maybe some stables do this to help cover for their overheads they have to pay out each week. Why would any punter want to play in any of the races these stables enter their horses in. There are stables in Newmarket i would not even touch.Then again not all stables are lucky enough to have all good horses sent them and surpport from rich owners year in, year out.
