This is too cute and I have always said that any person that homeschools their children is a warrior. I personally didn't do it, but I was still hands on, on their education and homework. Your kids arriving with backpacks was even cuter, you all did a great job and yes, please teach your children cursive, I'm lucky that my kids still got taught cursive and how to read a hand clock. I absolutely loved the transformation! You made the classroom so warm and inviting, some of it very nostalgic for me, especially the cursive writing strip. I remember that, but we didn’t have that one until I was in 2nd grade. We had the printing one first, when I was in first grade back in 1965. Didn’t have kindergarten in public schools back then in my state. I did however go to kindergarten,which was run by my church. I still have my kindergarten graduation picture, which was a group photo, we all wore white robes. Had both pastors and our teachers on either side of us. Again, thank you for taking me down memory lane and letting me share my memories with you! God bless you and your family.

Really lovely - what a sweet, happy place to 'do school' with your littles! I'm a former homeschool mama and I truly appreciate the luxury of having a dedicated homeschool room. It would have saved us a lot of hurrying up to get projects done so we could clear the table for dinner! Our homemade playdoh pyramids might have lived to see another day ... but the kitchen table sufficed, and we were happy to be so close to the kitchen - especially as they got older and were able to be more independent. A classroom addition that might be truly useful ... a mini trampoline is a super helpful learning tool for active little bodies. Jumping while memorizing math facts, Scripture verses, poetry, the presidents, the states and capitals etc. will make learning fun and help to cement the knowledge ... it might not fit the aesthetic, but it was a game changer for my active learners. And you could spray paint it too!

Being close to running water and everything else would be wonderful! We have trek down 3 flights of stairs everytime we need something, but I try and be positive about the exercise I guess 😆

@@oldmaplehome You are definitely getting in your cardio and steps! It’s a beautiful place to learn and grow! Maybe one of those old timey step baskets would be handy for items that go up and down the steps on the daily. The best part if home education is that you will be an expert on your children and be able to adjust as you go to meet their needs and keep the household running smoothly. We called those ‘mid course corrections’ and chose not to stay married to any system, curriculum, schedule or activity that, after a reasonable trial time, wasn’t working for us. My kids are all grown, but the things they have most often thanked us for are instilling in them a deep love for learning, teaching them skills required to set themselves up for success and the ability to discipline themselves to stick with a task until completed.

As someone who taught 32 years as a substitute teacher, I can’t even tell you how much this video warmed my heart. It was always my goal in teaching to have a classroom that was fun and educational all at once. You’ve accomplished that and so much more. The room is so inviting and will be a great learning space. I did a whole section with vintage school room so they could play school, another with an old fashioned old general store, kitchen area and workbench area with pegboards for tools, etc for the boys. Bats in the belfry... oh my! But then I have squirrels on my roof 24/7. After 51 years, I have made peace with them. Boy was this a labor of love. Lots of work, but so worth it in the end. I just love this. As a retired veteran elementary school teacher, I’d love to teach in this room! One idea that I used for many years was to put fabric on the bulletin board. In my case, all boards were primary colors of gingham. Makes for a nice reusable background😀. Love that green and white alphabet strip with traditional cursive too.
