Hi Attilio, thank you for your hard work. Patience is so hard sometimes. Learning to arrive early and leave late is not the rushed lifestyle of modern-day existence. Go early, stay late, and realize that is the new norm. Calm down! Enjoy the moment. So hard sometimes. Question: Have you ever considered using a video head instead of a ball head for your DSLR / mirrorless? Once you switch, you will never use a ball head again. Just a thought. Once again, thank you.

After watching this video the only sentence that comes to my mind is: YOU MAKE SO MUCH SENSE!!! This is the main reason of it all: use common sense. Thank you for creating it. The real help for many is just to use your head first! Good job!

Painting starts with a blank canvas and the painter puts things in the image. Photographers start with the world in front of them and select what to exclude. The more we exclude, the greater the emphasis on the subject that remains. Even if we include a lot of "white space", vast areas of emptiness, it simply underscores the isolation of the small remaining subject.

Thank you for another great video. So much of what you say is not only about camera technique, but about a philosophy of life: taking time, embracing reality, clarifying vision, making choices, and practicing discipline. You speak at exactly the right pace for the message you are delivering, and you have the kind of voice that could carry that message on radio, even wthout the images and music, which are sublime. I'm sure you could write a book called Soul Photography based on your video scripts and your prints.

I also release the shutter at the end of an exhale to reduce camera shake. I absolutely agree to spend time at a location, multiple days if possible, to really see your composition options. And never ever take the large camera touring with your wife. I take my smartphone pics and then come back alone to the location later (years sometimes) with the big camera.

I did make a mistake in using an low end inexpensive tripod. I didn't know better at the time. When I attended a night sky photography workshop and my camera fell off the extended center column I decided I needed a better tripod. I finally got one with a nice ball head this year. I'm also learning to use what I have. Thank you!!!

A steady tripod is a must. Don’t go cheap... You don’t want an unstable wobbly tripod to hold your expensive, precious camera gear. You might consider a carbon version to save weight. A solid stable ball head is also a must for your tripod. Great tips 😊

Thanks Attilio, sorry to say I often break rule no 1. With Olympus E-M5 MK3 and IBIS of 5.5 f stops I frequently take shots just under 1sec which are quite sharp. Of course you cannot do long time exposures but it really is wonderful. Now I have really upset your day. Thanks again, stay safe.

Attilio, excellent video about the mistakes we make in landscape photographs. Excuse my audacity because I would like to expose a mistake that I have experienced and I would like to share it: "never go out to take photos with someone who does not have the same passion for photography as you do". Their company will only bring you restlessness and embarrassment when you notice that they are anxiously waiting for you to finish "playing" with your camera. Better go out alone. Hug and thank you very much for your interesting videos.

Attilio you are addictive! I'm grateful for this video. I adore your long exposure photos, and I think I had an epiphany watching this. It dawned on me just why I like them so much: because long exposures are SLOW, you freeze the water, you stretch the clouds... when I take long exposures I have to stop, think, feel. It's exactly what you say in the video, the experience is more important than the shot. Do I make these mistakes? Yes, plus plenty more as a bonus. But in my favourite type of photo, which is milky way landscapes, I don't make them and this is probably why I love it so much. You raise awareness with your videos, "see you" next Thursday.

Another one in the back of the net , Attilio ! Thank YOU !! Keep up the great work. You're so right about not taking too many photos. That said, I remember smiling during one of your past videos (I cant remember the location) but you came across this amazing geyser with hot steam erupting. You casually said that it was not your thing (or similar words) and walked on. I thought at that moment 'this man is very selective'.

Good Points, The problem today is Speed seems to be the No.1 topic when it comes to todays Cameras.I think the Tri pod helps us to slow down too. Makes us think a little more before we click the shutter. We are not out there to shoot 20 FPS. Spray & prey as they say. Look, listen, Enjoy. That's all a part of the process.

Great video. A photo is as much about what it isn’t as what it is. I completely agree with your thoughts on wide angle. Too wide an angle in landscapes often overemphasizes the foreground, like some grasses or rocks, at the expense of the main subject. The main subject gets lost.

I especially appreciate your talk on lenses and in not getting bogged down into the extreme wide angle zoom world. I am always happy if you present new videos! Your experience is very important for me. Since today I have learned so much. And if I‘m to be honest, I‘ve made all of these mistakes in the past. Best wishes. And I hope for new content soon!!

I shoot with a Nikon D810. When I started I thought it was all about the super wide zoom as well. I bought a 15-30 2.8. it was a waste of money that never leaves my bag. Most of my best shots come from a 20mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.8. Lesson learned.

@@AttilioRuffo you are the reason I bought the 20 mm. Your teaching is the reason I'm good at long exposures now.

Great tips Attilio, all i have are three lens ranging from 16-35 and 70-300 but my go to and favourite is my 24-70 for some reason all my best shots are taken with this lens and yes everything i do is on a tripod

Interesting point on tripods...not so much for the camera shake, but simply that it slows you down and you can fine-tune and perfect the shot! As for me... I find I mostly shoot at 18 on my 18-35 (full frame)... consciously trying to break out of that and go longer when using that lens. That said, would love something that goes to 16 or 14mm 😎

Beautiful photos as usual. I do most of my photography with my cellphone. I have a couple of tripods that I use with that. Though I have to admit most of the time I use those tripods for night mode exposures, only occasionally using them for landscape photos. I do use a tripod with my Canon DSLR.
