At least we've come to the finale of our Game of Thrones misadventure. What better way to end it than with the nightmare that is Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series! Back when this game out I REALLY tried to like it but there was just too much off with it for me to get past episode 3. I got to the end this time around and it looks like I missed absolutely nothing (but hey, it can't possibly be worse than whatever's waiting for us at the end of the season 8 finale). This was a cookie cutter telltale installment using game of thrones as a flavor additive for a pretty stale model of games that just left you frustrated between the janky conrols and how despite what the game says your choices don't matter at all. The best part of the video is the not the gameplay but the footage of my cat Frisk meeting his potentially evil twin at the end.

So did I. Season 2 was even announced and given a release year before TellTale went under. We heard of some of their assets getting sold off to other companies. But just The Walking Dead most notably. Sky bound Entertainment got it. I was dismayed when I first discovered TellTale went under. More so when the fate of TellTale Game of Thrones Season 2 became uncertain. But perhaps, there is still hope for this. It’s kind of old news by now, but on August 28th of now Last Year, LGC Entertainment publicly announced acquisition of “most of the Telltale Games assets ” here’s hoping Game of Thrones Season Two is one of them.

I finished the whole game. It's honestly not as bad as you trying to make it out to be, personally i had no problems with the controlls or fullscreen on pc, i guess it was an issue you encountered. What was actaully disapointing in this game is that your choices at the end barely made any significant impacts on how the story progressed, it was a bunch of different characters doing slightly differently something but all ending up with the same ending regardless and of course how rush the game was with dialogue choices.

Which defeats the entire purpose of the game. You're not playing this shit for the occasional QTE sword fight, you're playing it for the story, but the story is also just bad by itself if you ignore the signature Telltale false promise of choice. It's a worse version of the Starks' various story lines on the actual show, which is already a worse version of that same shit in the books.

You're confusing graphics with art style. The game deliberately went for a painted/water colour look. It doesn't always work, and the interaction between the models and the environment can be funky at times, but it's definitely a lot better than you're giving it credit for. It helped differentiate it nicely from the other Telltale games at the time too, which generally focused a lot more on cell shading and high colour contrast. I dug it. Just wish the engine behind it would have been technically stronger - and the writing for the North Grove plotline less groan inducing.

This storyline was pretty interesting and I had a lot of fun with it while playing due to the fact that it stayed in tone with the Game of Thrones atmosphere and harsh results. But of course, everything is cool to hate nowadays because why not.

You say it stayed in tone... I think that's why the illusion of choice is so frustrating. If the game was really harsh on bad decisions, killing off characters when you fucked up, but also allowed you to make the right choice and survive, even thrive, that would've been great. (You had 5 characters, I believe, they absolutely could've set it up so that any of them could've died or survived based on your choices, allowing you to shepherd all 5 to the end, or getting to the end with all of them dead, and House Forrester no more. Or any result in between.) I thought the game was fun until I realized that my choices didn't make a difference; once I realized that, I stopped caring about the game and its story. (Although I also think chapter 1 was great, which is why I enjoyed it so much more early: it was better than later chapters, and I hadn't yet realized that my choices didn't matter.)

Because of it's tie in status we know how things are going to go before they do and it's set up in such a way as to parallel the show but that hurts it more cause they can only do so much with it.

There is House Yronwood (Ironwood) in Dorne I liked the first few episodes but as soon as it gets into the off canon stuff it took me out of it "The North Grove" and it's relation to a noble family of Westeros, if they were going to do that why not set it during Aegons conquest or a timeframe that leaves more open possibilities then setting it around ongoing show events, in the end the fact a lot of choices don't matter seems to be The Telltale style.

@@CharlatanWonder I thought having a minor noble house was a good idea, it created some freedom for the writers to work with (unfortunately, they didn't take advantage of that freedom). The Forresters (and "Iron from Ice") still appeals to me; not surprisingly, Gared Tuttle was my favorite, but I really liked how they weaved a story with multiple characters. I honestly liked most of the characters; I only really enjoyed *being* Tuttle, but all of the characters had potential from a story-telling perspective. This was the first Telltale game I played... honestly, I really enjoyed it until replaying a chapter shattered the illusion of choice. But the foundation of a story, the characters they created for the story? I liked it, and still do. It's just a bummer that they didn't handle choice more deftly. Somebody on the comment thread mentioned he was mad you couldn't kill Ramsey, that making it canon ruined the illusion of choice because it put you on rails. I'm not sure how much having a villain like Ramsey ruined that, because they put you on rails the entire way; if they would've allowed a lot more freedom of choice, if they made some really distinct choices and endings that varied, that actually made your choices matter, then I think they could've left in Ramsey and some other elements to ground it. They could've had the show lay the foundation but weave a story about the Forresters into it in a way that allowed you to feel as if you weren't going to change the world, but would make a difference to your little part of it. Starting out as Gared, choosing to remain silent when that other not-yet-a-squire whined about how he'd never be recognized, just ignoring him while he whined like a bitch, then *repeatedly* warning him that we *needed to go* (opening with The Red Wedding), and letting him die because he chose poorly... that was really cool, and I still remember how much I enjoyed that opening.

@@johnking9943 I definitely preferred Gared, but yeah, I thought Asher was a really good character that many would find appealing, perhaps moreso than Gared. I didn't - so I wondered if everybody would prefer Gared, having him be our introduction to the story gave him an unfair advantage - but I can see Asher's appeal. He seemed like a Bronn-type of character. (They probably did a better job of making Asher a unique character than Gared, who started out, I thought, as interesting but became a bit more bland when they sent him to the Wall, then had his arc parallel Jon's more than I would've liked.)

The telltale game mirrors the television series in a lot of ways. It starts as an amazing, branching storyline that gets you hooked. A lot of action and killing in the middle, concluded by a rushed and unsatisfying ending.

I wrote a little about it on a response here somewhere... I enjoyed the opening. I enjoyed the Forresters, and especially Gared Tuttle; the opening bit, warning the whiny dude that you *needed to go*, then running away, confronting and defeating the soldiers, getting back to the Forresters and returning their sword... that shit was cool, and I still remember how much I enjoyed playing it and how much I looked forward to seeing the story unfold. The problem was that your freedom of choice was an illusion; once I discovered that nothing I did mattered, the game was spoiled for me. I thought the characters and the story had potential, but the gameplay was just a few QTEs... the gameplay wasn't good enough to stand on its own, therefore it needed to stand out because of its story, and your choices *needed* to matter... and they didn't. I wouldn't call it a *bad* game, necessarily, just hugely disappointing.

@@samuelrs5138 i can vividly recall a sequence in the wall where the game's camera focused on a random object like a box or smth for five seconds in between dialogue and i could almost count the pixels. i am not exaggerating. when i played it back in the day, there were visible edges across every character's facial outline where it was pixellated to a ps1 extent.

That was probably the worst part about this game. The worst sin of a A 'choice your own path' adventure is having none of your choices matter. Garrick always ends up at the wall, Mira always gets caught up in as assassination attempt, Ethan always dies, Asher always has Dany go back on their agreement,...no matter what you choose until the last chapter there's no realy sense that your choices made any difference...and them it leaves on a cliffhanger so you don't even get to see what it's all been leading up to.

I disagree for the most part. My major complaints with the game (which I played on XBOX 360) were the obvious illusion of choice and the frame skip issues. Other than that, I was wholly conscious that this was designed multi-plat for tablets and phones, so I don't fault its graphics and interface. And the story IS good. Yes, the appearance of show characters is a mite contrived, but the characters are very memorable and well-designed, the plot fits seamlessly into the lore, and I was excited for Season 2.

I never had any issues with the controls and I don't think the screen was just borderless fullscreen, since clicking off the game has never happened to me in any Telltale game and I've played all of them. They always started up in fullscreen mode by default for me.

The girl in KL's ending is the same. You either refuse to sell the coal boy and get beheaded or getting locked in a room until you give your husband a son and then killed. The guy across the wall is the one that has somewhat different endings with either heading back to help your lords or stay beyond the wall. I kept playing thinking I could get a different ending and did nearly every combo of choices, yet the ending was always the same.

One unresolved storyline in this game that has bugged me to no end was the North Grove. They hyped it up to be this all important place from the very start of the game with lord Gregor telling Gared to make sure it doesn't fall before cut down at the Red Wedding. And this occupies most of Gared's story as he had to go all the way beyond the Wall to find the place while risking life and limb. But they never explain what it did, why it was so important or how it would play a part in saving House Forrester.

You nail most of the problems in the game perfectly. It gives what I call an illusion of choice, in which you can make decisions but few of them matter. The worst part was you don't fail because of your choices, you fail because the plot demands it. It hurts because I liked the Forrester's but so many choices were horrible and few of your plans work, not because you fail but because the plot demanded!

The problem isn't borderless window mode. If you like using the second monitor while gaming it's the best option because the screen doesn't glitch out every time you click on the other program. This game is meant to reset the mouse to the centre of the screen every frame. Sometimes a game will glitch out and you'll see this in action. This game is just not designed for PC.

Im not saying it wasn't made for tablets, but i saw the game for sale at Walmart an actual PS3 disc, i had to wait about a week for my paycheck, but when i went back to the same Walmart it was gone, i even asked an associate if they could look in the back for me cuz it was there. My husband was with me and he remembers seeing it and how excited i was, but to my utter disappointment it was nowhere to be found. I was so disappointed about it that when we got home my husband got on our PS3 and found it on the PSNetwork and downloaded it to our playstation 3 for me. you still had to pay for it, but they had a sale on it or something but it came out to be $20 for all episodes. so Im honestly curious why it was in different forms for a gaming console, if it was made for tablets?

This is a game that simply does not allow you to win in any possible way. It’s a narrative-driven game where literally none of your choices matter. Every single option, in every single dialogue, in every single scene, in every single episode always leads to a bad consequence that you don’t want. It’s not a story of how a house rises back from ashes, but rather a story of how every single character you cherish dies an inevitable death, and eventually, the house falls. You don’t get to kill your enemies, you don’t get to decide the fate of anyone in your house. This game now stays in my “Fucking Disgrace” folder in my Steam library.

I for one liked every episode. I played them in a week last year and loved it. I just hate it ended it on a cliffhanger. But I can’t fault them for that since a sequel was going to be out this year if they hadn’t went under. I loved the big fight at the end of episode 5. I played on PS4 and didn’t have any glitches or problems with the controls.
