I really enjoyed the Telltale Game of Thrones game on Steam. I played it with three friends. We each took on the role of a character and passed round the controller whenever it was our turn to play that character's story. Every time a new episode dropped we gathered round my TV: on my sofa, ordered food, cracked open a bottle of whisky and started playing. It was serious fun! I totally recommend playing that way to anyone else who can organise something like that themselves. I also enjoyed playing this game too, my brother bought if for me as a Christmas gift about four years ago when it was in the Steam sale, I enjoyed the system where you get to pick weaknesses as well as traits. I made the red fire priest a pyrophobe and a water dancer.

This game looks surprisingly good. It reminds me of the first Witcher game. Low production value, tedious combat but a lot of passion put into the parts where it shines. The story for this game was great. It really did feel like a bunch of POV chapters between two characters from GRRM’s books. George worked closely with the developers on writing the story and characters for this game. This was partly why a _Dance With Dragons_ was released later than he said it would be. He stated he was heavily tempted to write another video game after this one, but he thought better of it because he still had books to write.
@MrJH1015 жыл бұрын
I actually remember playing this in front of my roommate who knew absolutely nothing about the ASOIAF series or even the Game of Thrones show itself (the show was barely a few years old at the time and wasn’t totally mainstream yet). Despite the dated graphics and slow combat, he loved watching me play this and was hooked by the story. He really thought that these two characters you played as must certainly have been the real protagonists of the main storyline because of how great they were. So when I told him there was a tv show of this and that they weren’t actually in it, he thought that the show must _surely_ have been a “side story” based off of this. It took me a little while to convince him otherwise and I actually had to show him the first three seasons afterwards. He never forgave me for introducing him to The Red Wedding.

I was pissed off by this game's endings, they market it as if your decisions matter, but only 2 of them really do. Just like that GoT telltale game. And i'm really puzzeld by how many people think that in GRRM's writings the world of westeros itself is out to get the main characters, and everyone is doomed to death of worse. Without realizing that the main characters who died in the show/books died because they were dumb and/or were too honorable to play the "game of thrones" the way it is meant to be played. I seriously don't know why no freaking game developer could grasp what GRRM's world actually is about. The author himself said it is a narrative about the conflict of good and evil inside people's hearts, just like in real life. Not about a dumb narrative where the main characters are going to get screwed over in the end no matter what, that's just cheapening ASoIF to extreme levels. That being said, the characters, the worldbuilding and combat were pretty good. It's just that all of the endings are horeshit and the game sells under a fake premise.

Just to note. No free roam, the end of the story ends the game, you get a "let's be sure we are ready" before the final push but you can't visit every past area. Some quests can't be completed if you missed them in certain areas or during certain events. Story is pretty linear so some places do close off after plot stuff happens. To be fair though you get a lot of time to explore and fight if you don't rush blindly. I was afraid of not having enough money at the start when money is tight but even with limited fights, you won't be stuck for gold if you shop smart.

What i honestly loved about this game is that the two main characters were basically the type of characters that would be mid level Questgiver NPCs in other games. You meet Mors at the black keep and he'll give you a series of 3 quests that tell a grim and tragic story about some wildlings and the kings law. They look like that, they sound like that, they are even literally a side show to the GoT main plot. But this is their story. This is what the NPCs lifes are when the main characters are off romancing the princess and single handedly defeating the Dothraki horde with the flaming sword of Rhollor they found in an ancient tomb or whatever. This is two NPCs that are part of this world going through hell, while the typical RPGs main characters are avatars for the player, freshly hatcned from the clone tank and obviously new to this world.

The story of this game is that Cyanide were doing GoT games before HBO even start making tv show and games were not meant to promote tv show, those were two separate cases. Unfortunatelly Cyanide run out of money and when HBO started airing tv show Cyanide came to them to cooperate and get funds to finish this game. That's why faces are the same as in tv show but costumes like golden cloakes are different. And script was approved by George Martin but it's written by people from Cyanide studios. The final point is, this game started as separated project made because of authors' love to source material not as a tie-in to a tv show. Cyanide simply didn't have money to finish it and HBO saved this project with extra funds.

Bro, I had an idea for an open-world GOT game today. It takes place during Robert’s rebellion. There would be 4 playable characters. Robert Baratheon, Ned Stark, Jaime Lannister, and a player-created character. With all four characters, you’d go through different events or the same events with different perspectives. Each would have a final boss except for Jaime’s plot, where you would just kill the Mad King.. Ned’s final boss would be Arthur Dayne. Robert’s would be Rhaegar Targaryon, and the player created character, it would depend which alliances you made (sided with Rhaegar Ned Stark, sided with Aerys, Tywin Lannister), so the game could be karma-based. There would be good, bad, and true endings for each character, with the true endings just being how events went down according the lore, Ned Stark’s ending, as a quick example, would depend on what happens with the final boss. If you manage to beat Arthur (which would be insanely difficult), you’d get the good ending, and get to Lyanna in time to save her, if he defeats you, but one of your party members has enough health left, they kill him and things go as they did, but if he beats and all other party members, then you get the bad ending of him killing you. It would combine the great story-telling of the show with the freedom you find in games like Skyrim and Fallout.

I played this game when it came out. It was good. The story was great and the voice acting didn't really cause me any problems. Sure, it was not AAA material but I wasn't expecting it to be. Also, I can't believe I missed the GRRM cameo. How the fuck did I miss the GRRM cameo?

I'm pretty surprised you've never seen a positive/negative traits system. I can think of a few examples off the top of my head, maybe even including Stellaris' species traits.

I still am waiting for an epic open world game set in the world of game of thrones where you play as a sell sword and your decision change the world around you. I fear we might never get a truly great game of thrones game but i can dream

Oh wow, this channel still exists. Lost track on it years ago when it stopped being PS2 focused.

It has five endings, not four. There's also the Valarr ending. You get it if he beats you at the end. I'm also surprised you think the story is too long. The story is the whole point of the game.
