If we had stricter DUI sentences then we wouldn’t have so many drunk drivers and repeat offenders! Stop letting them go home the same night, they should have to atleast spend the night in jail and then their sentence should be at the very least a few months in jail for first offense. Second offense should be a year in jail, and so on …

At 23 he was well past the date of majority. Unless in a court ordered custodial care status, no LEO/ADA/PD etc are mandated to disclose his legal matters to his parents. I turned 18 in the last semester of my junior year in high school, I went to the office and had all the contact information changed to my phone etc. my report card was sent to me, parents never saw another one. I was a legal adult. So no, it’s “not nonsense.” He probably wasn’t even living at home, could’ve been in another state. Not everyone stays on their parents tit.

And, if I ever got a DUI, my mother would’ve pushed my car into the Hudson River. *But, we lost a 16yr old cousin to a drunk driver in 1987, so we learned at a very young age to never drive impaired. There’s no excuse this day & age. We have cellphones to call someone, Uber, etc.

Good friend in high school, his dad was a county sheriff ( we didn’t live in town ), only way I knew about his dad-my dad was friends with his dad. He never admitted his dad was a sheriff. A. His dad would have left him in any jail if he landed in one. B. If it was common knowledge that his dad was a sheriff, the asshats at school would have gone after him. C. He respected his dad and dad respected him, that old “good parenting concept.”

Had a dear friend whose father was a court surrogate for child abuse investigations. Friend caught a dwi with injury and property damage. My friend was given a free pass, so long as he enlisted in the US Army. And he did... He died in the sandbox. Some times influence does you no favors.
