Pretty cool for something done in a hurry. There's definitely something to develop further when you get the time. Locrian is a rather rare scale to use. Björk, and a few others have, but not many comes to mind. Rick Beato has a video on the subject I saw a while ago. First time I heard about it, though I did know the music he mentioned. Stay cool dude.

Thanks a lot mate 😁 I'm definitely evolving it to a full track. Reckon I'll be playing it in some form at the concert. Yeah, it's a pretty interesting scale, between the flattened 2nd and 5th it can sound really dark and sinister due to the dissonance. I didn't stick religiously to the scale, just to take it a step further relative to the challenge presented, but sounds like I actually made it less dissonant in doing so. Done right it is pretty damn cool for the darker sides of styles like techno, neuro, and so on. And likewise, hope to soon hear some new music from you as well 😉

Nice work under time constraints! I must confess not knowing what Locrain is…
@MarctheDarc Жыл бұрын
Thank you mate 😃 Locrian is a so-called "mode"; and modes are variations based on scales. Scales are defined by the tonal interval between the scale degrees (notes of the scale). The classic example is the C major scale made of the 7 white notes of a keyboard, with C as the root note, or 1st degree of the scale. 7 notes means 7 degrees of the scale. However, if you keep the exact same notes, but start with a different root note, you get different tonal intervals, technically a completely different scale. But since it's has all the same notes, instead of calling it a different scale, it's called a mode. The major scale is also called ionian mode. With that in mind, C major has 7 notes, meaning it has 7 potential root notes, or 7 modes. The most common of these (apart from major/ionian) is the minor scale, or aeolian mode - play a C major scale with A as the root note, and you get the A minor scale (also called A aeolian mode). Start a C major scale from B, and you get B Locrian mode. Of the 7 modes based on the major scale, this is the weirdest and least useful (most of the time). Crucially it has a flattened 5th degree. Where the other 6 modes have a 5th degree, 7 semitones, or a perfect 5th, away from the 1st degree, or root note, which is the most consonant (pleasing) interval in all of music theory. Locrian modes flattened 5th is only 6 semitones, also called a tritone, away from the root, which is the most dissonant (displeasing) interval in all of music theory. Also making the diatonic chord for the root of Locrian mode a diminished chord.

@@Interdimensions I don't know what to say. I love early Prodigy, as well as a lot of 90's stuff. That's all my prime inspiration. So it really means a lot to me, for somebody to think my music can hold a candle to any of it.

Great jam. So much out of the one box. Very impressive.
@MarctheDarc Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much 😃 It really is a crazy little box. I've only started using it recently, so still trying to learn. And my first sample-set (that I've used for the last 2 challenges) is only half full atm. But the features and the workflow is dope AF. I could use a few more sample-mangling parameters, which means you need to bring "more ready" samples into it, but that's really all I can fault. I seriously think, with more work and familiarity, one could prepare an entire liveset with this 1 box, and rock up to a gig with nothing else. I've actually made it a goal for me, to do an 1 hour livestream with nothing but this Circuit Rhythm, around the end of the year. No idea if I'll be able to swing it 🤣

Thanks a lot mate 😃 Circuits are generally cool, but I've really gotten bitten by the Rhythm in particular. That thing is crazy powerful, fast and intuitive. I've actually set myself the challenge/goal of doing an hour long livestream performance by the end of the year, using nothing but the Rhythm.

Do you feel limited by the storage space for breaks? i felt let down by the PO KO 33, bit love the Circuit Tracks! Niiice tune by the way, somewhat Wax Doctor
@MarctheDarc6 ай бұрын
Not really. Going in, I thought the total sample length would be an issue, but so far it hasn't at all. Breaks, and other such loops, fit rather neatly, balancing number of sample slots with total length pretty well. The limitation of 128 samples per pack, is felt a bit in relation to one-shots specifically. And with the right synth groovebox buddy, I reckon that won't be an issue either. Still with 32 packs (with SD card), each having their own pool of samples, it's not bad. I'm still working out the most efficient way of filling a pack though. I think with the POs, you gotta get into that particular workflow. They're not really to my taste either, but I've seen people do some pretty impressive things with them. Thank you very much for listening and your kind comment 😃
