Thank you for the honest and informative review. You are very observant and this is exactly the kind of review that we need more of in the e-drum community. I've been looking to upgrade my TD-30k and this weekend ordered the ATV 13" snare and hi hats. I'll be driving that with the Mimic pro and moving the Roland snare to be a floor tom.

The kit came with three stands. One boom style stand, two stands with the three way purpose attachment, two boom arms, two Tom attachments and one multi clamp. Some people also recommend using plastic tip sticks for edrums to reduce wear on mesh heads and rubber pads like cymbals. In my follow up videos I just released about the ATV kick I mentioned that the drum riser made things worse that I was not aware of because no one told me when it was recommended. Watch the video to find out more on my channel.

Ive noticed wood tips leave marks that nylon doesn't. I use nylon on my edrums now exclusively.

Thanks for the video, are the top and bottom mesh heads both dual-ply?

I have all the Mimic Sounds (SSD4 Platinum Drum Library) on my Laptop so you can use the ATV module to trigger those I guess!
@robertlucas98675 жыл бұрын
Yes but the Mimic Pro has one advantage, you don't need a laptop and midi cable.

Is there any way to use the woodblock as a side stick sound and still have a rim click or rim shot side on the rim?
@robertlucas98676 жыл бұрын
It is to enhance the cross stick sound. Even though it does not have wires attached to it, it does improve cross stick sensing.

I use MIMIC with ATV, it play better then roland, no hotspot and the hihat blow Roland sound and playability.

Paul J I own a Pearl Mimic and a Roland TD50 (just the module). Yes, I agree with you that the Mimic sounds way better but Roland’s triggering is superior IMHO. Roland TD50 paired with Superior Drummer 3 is today, (again IMHO) the best of the best.

Robert, what are the Mimic Pro hi hat settings you're using for the ATV hi hat? I'm having issues getting it dialed in. Also, how do you have the hi hat hardware tension set. I know it makes a difference. When I had it loose (default out of box) and I pressed the hi hat pedal down to extra tight, it would go loose at some point. I've spent several days and can't get it as accurate as the VH-11 was. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I will be covering it in a video soon. I've been told VH13v2 in pad settings is best but I am testing each one and find some pros and cons to each. In the video I used VH13v2 setting, lowered input gain when hitting soft (ghost) notes with sticks till it did't register then I raised it up a few clicks, I want to say the input is around 7-10 then put my hi hat spring (Mapex Falcon) to medium high or high then I did capture top velocity on bow and edge then did Hi Hat calibration. Once all that was done I did a adjust on the semi open under Hi hat calibration I think.

Thank you! I used your recommended settings and the hi hats work great! Super responsive and tight.@@robertlucas9867

Now that I have the ATV hi hat, can the VH-11 be modified to use as a crash cymbal?
@robertlucas98676 жыл бұрын
I don't know. I want to lean toward no because the bottom is different design and it doesn't have the typical anti spin accessory. It could still work but I would have to find time to explore that. But my biggest concern is just how it sits in the crash position and spinning if it does work.

Flams, I am playing a Swiss Army Triplet so you are hearing the flams on the first diddle of the triplet.

Do u have 3 floor toms?
@robertlucas98675 жыл бұрын
yes, one is to the left to make it easier to play certain tom patterns for me. I picked up the idea from Virgil Donati, and people like Johnny Rabb and Benny Greb who use a extra snare or tom also on the left for patterns so I don't have to cross arms. I think Mike Mangini was another inspiration for it.

It looks incredible, but it also seems too expensive!
@robertlucas98674 жыл бұрын
That's true!
@robertlucas98674 жыл бұрын
I dislike how expensive Roland is too. The cost of making pads with plastic is not expensive as people think and the piezo pickups you can buy cheap. It's ok to make a profit but the kits nowadays are too expensive.

Metal is the most passionate music style for sure, unfortunately it's seen as evil..... I honestly believe jesus would be more metal then anything else, he was an occult master, read the gospel of Thomas!

Lloyd Rees I copied from guys like Virgil Donati and Benny Greb having a side Tom/snare. Useful for a lot of things.
