Luke, I'm so glad you guys at Dirt Trax posted this video. It's fantastic to see a professional such as yourself touting safety. I 100% agree with everything you said in this video. I am astonished with the number of people I see on trails without helmets and that includes those on side by sides who somehow feel they're safe without them, I don't care how slow they travel. I live in Nova Scotia and for years ATV's and the riders have been stereotyped as dangerous. Several years ago there were a series of incidents involving young children that were seriously injured and a few were killed while riding ATV's unsafely and without helmets. Instead of putting the blame where it belonged, on the parents who allowed the children to ride in a dangerous fashion while unsupervised, the media blamed the machines and called for an outright ban on them. It's taken years of hard work from ATV club volunteers building multi-access trails and raising money for charities to change the opinions of many. The actions of a few bad apples affected everyone. Parents have to set the example by wearing helmets, all the time.

I've seen my share of accidents. Some I rather forget. A close friend rolled his Viking a couple weeks ago and tore the ligament that connects your shoulder to your collar bone (if you see this sorry lol) wasn't going fast or anything, just happened. Him and I pride ourselves on our experience. We both started riding as kids on small ATV's first one my dad bought me was a Honda 300 (freakin tank loved that thing) When some people are bobbing we're weaving, it's like second nature what direction to take on technical trails and because of that we usually lead the pack. But him rolling sort of shook me a bit, reminded me it doesn't really matter your level of experience. Even that can harm you, blinds you from your shortcomings and the bikes limitations. Sorry for the book, but yea be safe out there guys. And thank you Dirt Trax keep'em coming.

Thank you Luke and the Dirt Trax crew for producing this video. Excellent work, as usual. Our house in Northern Wisconsin is on a paved road which is a connector route on what is getting to be a very busy ATV/UTV recreational trail system. On any given weekend (or getting to be almost anytime) there is pretty much a steady parade of ATVs/UTVs going past our place; the vast majority of which not wearing helmets. I cannot understand why. Many take the time to put on bandannas, goggles and such, but no helmets. I have had a Paramedic license for the better part of twenty years and can tell you, unequivocally, that helmets save lives and help prevent serious injuries. I have responded to and been involved with numerous ATV accidents, but it also hits close to home for me. In October 2005, ten years ago this month, a close friend's first husband (she had a FB post on the anniversary of his death, reminding me of it just the other day) was killed just down the road from our place in a lone ATV accident. He died of head trauma - no helmet. A few years ago a good friend of my fathers died when he somehow flipped his ATV backward - again, no helmet. Please people; wear a good helmet! As a friend of mine often quips: "Only a two-cent head wears a two-cent helmet." Or worse, none at all.

This is a very true fact. I had some people out at my lake camping and partying for a bachelor party and these two guy's in a rzr XP 900 (modded to sh*t) were going to get something, and as they were coming back they were drunk like have been for two day's and were doing maybe 90 to 105 k/mh down a back road to the camp ground and of course they took a corner and flipped it right over. The guy who was getting married got squashed and died on seen. Funny part was that the same guy tried to help me when my ATV broke down and next thing you know he's dead. So I always wear my helmet and full gear on my dirt bike even my quad on hot day's at least a helmet, gloves and maybe jersey for a little bit of protection. And I always try and tell my friend's to always wear one or I just don't ride with them because really, who want's to see their best friend's get killed because of their stupidity? I sure know I don't!

Ive always worn a bucket! like you said no matter what your riding, and after crashing a motorcycle and rolling an atv at speed I'm not sure i could handle not having one... weather your like me and like to push the limits a bit or something as random as a deer running across the trail at the wrong time, it only takes one crash to kill you And i know personally a big reason in my area and the people in my lives don't buy kids atvs is because there really expensive for what they are, to get an lt80 even 15 years old in good shape is $1600 and for a couple hundred more i can get a KQ300 that is so much more versatile and almost anyone can ride, when i was young it was "be careful and don't go past 3rd or ill have your hide" I think price is a pretty big issue i think there should be more affordable options for kids atvs and obviously not Chinese atvs you have to fix everyday... but i suppose the high price might have to do with demand and the lack of market because so many kids are riding Adult atvs? Its the scariest thing out on the atv i see is small kids ripping around on big atvs I know its an issue that seems to hit closer to home every year

Until he nearly died, he almost fell asleep late night, and he wasn't aware until his bike went on 2 wheels from hitting a bike left in the yard. He prevented it from going over, but from that day on he never leaves on a bike without a helmet.

Motorcycles, snowmobiles, and ATVs have one big thing in common. The vast majority of deaths on any of them involve a rider that was drinking and/or not wearing a helmet. If you commit to riding sober and wearing a helmet, the probability of a fatal crash plummets. And a roll cage is absolutely NOT an excuse to leave the helmet at home. Your head may not hit the ground in a rollover, but it will probably impact the hard steel roll cage.

WEAR YOUR SEATBELT!!! I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!! Today, I was in a Razor accident. A very bad one. The Driver was going around a bunch of trees, and we are suspecting that there was a tree root, and the razor got caught on it. It flipped. I was not hurt. It flipped on my side, and I was wearing my seatbelt. I was restrained by the five point harness that was connected to the seatbelt. So It wasn't just a seatbelt, but a very secured harness. The driver, who I thought was wearing his seatbelt wasn't. He was ejected from the vehicle and went to the hospital with several severe broken bones. This is very upsetting to me. I mean, People congratulate me for wearing my seatbelt, but you know if I had not asked to ride the razor none of this had happened. If things had been different this wouldn't have happened. I feel guilty, eve though everybody says I wasn't in the wrong, even though I asked for the ride on the razor. I will NEVER forgive myself! I HATE MYSELF!!!

The helmet argument is the stupidest one I’ve dealt with.. me and a few buddies like to ride, we ride some technical stuff, on big machines and like to have fun, but we’re all wearing helmets, and riding like we want to go home in one piece. Too many people think they’re invincible. I’ve rolled a quad when I was younger, landed funny and broke my arm, but the big mud spot on the back of my helmet where my head hit the ground was enough to remind me why the helmet was there. Just put it on and don’t be stupid

I guess everybody grows up different I have never even seen a person where a helmet on a ATV before. Majority depends on the person knowing there machine and the trail and I have never seen a problem if those two skills are there. I do think kids before 16 should all have a helmet in all states but like here in Texas nobody has to where one not even motorcyclist.

Although I ride dirt roads and pipelines and farms when Im only going 10 -15 mph and in the Texas heat that would be unbearable with a helmet. But if I rode the way you guys ride all the time I would definitely wear a helmet.

I know u should always wear a helmet but let say I'm plowing my drive this winter and only using low gear and on a max of 10mph if even that a usually keep it in the 8mph range I know u herd alot of dumb excuse but this does kill your view little bit to see the snow and it's no like I'm actually rideing at this point it's being used as a utility vehicle

common sense, ive known mutual friends and family thatve died and have been paralyzed, mostly alcohol and one very tragic accident of a young pre teen girl that got off to do something else other than operate the vehicle. theres nothing you can do to control what other people can do. whiskey courage gets the best of us in north america though lol

My almost 7 year old is being encouraged to break almost every rule. I cant protect him when he's with his father.

I’d say kids should be 12/13 to ride a full size atv and under supervision
