I have been using this trick for 3 winters now, with the same PVC pipe, even with over 800 feet of driveway. I use it mostly in early winter, until a layer of ice forms and the gravel freezes in place. Before using this trick, the Kubota's snowblower was scattering kilos of gravel in the forest, in addition to wearing out the paint and all the parts like a grinder would do.

I heard about this hack, and tried it for the first time. I have recycled asphalt on a 1/4 mile driveway. Even though I use the hockey pucks “snow shoes”, all it takes is going too fast and a strong bump and the hockey puck will drag a nice long gash in your driveway, The ABS pipe will keep that from happening. Like you said, the purpose is to take off enough of the snow it should melt after the sun comes out.
@GettingItDoneRepairs Жыл бұрын
Oh wow I can see that happening on recycled asphalt. My neighbors driveway has that on it. It's not very durable.

I did something similar with my snow blower on my lawn tractor for my gravel driveway....keeps from digging into the gravel and throwing rocks. I used steel pipe though, don't want to have to replace it all the time from getting broken.
@steveo41412 жыл бұрын
Made a skid from a length of 1/2 pipe ... (2" diameter) with a short piece of flat stock welded 6 inches from either end across the flats to bolt it to the blade where the sliders would normally be fixed.... works great .... its effectively the same thing but a lot more robust.

I have the 60" Kimpex Click n Go 2 on my Grizzly 700, awesome plow.. I have the side panels (drift cutters) installed, also running diamond style v-bar tire chains on the rear. This thing is a tank and will push huge mounds of wet heavy snow!! If your driveway is on a slope, definitely get the tire chains, especially if you're pushing up hill. I'd go front and rear in this case just to be sure. It's impressive how well an atv pushes snow with chains. The plow itself is a very clever design IMO, I would definitely recommend it to anybody on the fence about buying it.
@timberray95723 жыл бұрын
I did this with my blade on my tractor, I will be doing this for my ATV blade as well for next season.

Update: I first tried this a few days ago. Works great on gravel! No gouging no kickback. The ABS stays put. It shows signs of wear. But now that there is no gravel on the surface, it won’t wear as quick. Even if it only lasts a winter, it is a cheap hack!

Thanks for the update. This is my 1st year with an ATV & plow (Moose plow 60" on a Polaris 500 HO EFI)...I live in N. Saskatchewan Canada so sometimes we get 1st snow before freeze up and makes plowing a nightmare. The shoes dig into the soft gravel/grass and really had me concerned. I came on here and found this hack, and great to hear it worked well for you. I just cut my PVC pipe today and will put it on tomorrow and ready for our 1st snow that is supposed to come this weekend and we are not at freeze up yet...so I am looking forward to it now and not dreading it. Bought this for my small back deck in the Eastern Sierra. kzbin.infoUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN We get A LOT of HEAVY snow so I was a bit skeptical but it was worth it! After the first storm of the year this has exceeded expectations! It throws snow very well, even 10-12” + that said the more it piles up the harder it is to maneuver the machine. It is exceptionally light weight and overall exactly what I was looking for. If you have a large amount of snow and a lot of area to clear, you may consider something with a drive engine to help maneuverability, but for decks, second stories, roofs etc, you can’t beat the light weight to great snow throwing ratio. Side note, the chute rotator is a bit flimsy and it initially didn’t seem to work, after a few uses it seems to have loosened up.
