I bought a raptor 660 and i couldnt get timing right pulled the cover off and found timing key snapped but mine doesnt have needle bearing magnet slides striaght on shaft with 0 play any ideas??

Question, i am new to the atv world. I recently had a 02 660 grizzly come included with my house purchase. Upon driving it.....it felt like the timing chain was slapping....was also having issues switching it into gear when on. I could switch it before turning it on, but it would be stuck in that gear. Also, please note,I recently changed the carboerater. So I have no idea if the clutch is not engaging, or if the time chain broke, or is just off by alot. Any help would be great

I’ve watched your series on the 660 but missed why you are tearing it down again. I have a cracked jug on mine as well. Did you have any more problems related to the jug after you used the helicoil to fix the threads? I’m about to tear mine down and expect to find the previous owner put the short bolt in the front but want to know if you think the helicoil is a good solution if the root cause of a cracked jug is indeed damaged threads on the lower case. Great videos by the way, love all the Intel!

Tbh im moreso tearing it down for youtube purposes but also am curious to see what ill find in the bottom, so far I have found a but of CHUNKS of metal in a few places, bent shift shaft, and my oil strainer just clogged will all kinds of crap so that'll be a fun time replacing all of that
@Hunters_Mechanics3 жыл бұрын
I have yet to have any problems with it but can assure that apparently everyone is against using a helicoil over a timersert (or however its spelled), ive yet to have mine come out but oml does it scare me when I put my bolt in because it gets tight, then loose, then tight, then loose then it'll torque down to spec. I honestly have no other clue what could have caused a cracked jug other than the short bolt issue or something flying apart on the inside
@Hunters_Mechanics3 жыл бұрын
@Jake Propst that's pretty hard to diagnose and even harder to replace if it is, how did you come about that it might be that bearing?
@CottageGarage3 жыл бұрын
Great video, do you have a list of all the parts you needed to do the timing chain?
@Hunters_Mechanics3 жыл бұрын
I mean really all the parts you'd need is just a new chain, stator cover gasket, and new o-rings for the dowel pins, that is if nothing else is broke or worn lol
@CottageGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@Hunters_Mechanics thank you for the quick reply. Did the valves on my 05 and there is still a pretty loud ticking noise which other videos have suggested to be the timing chain. Gonna order the parts and hope that’s all that’s wrong.

@@Hunters_Mechanics Mine did not have a washer behind the needle bearings on the Crank shaft and I can not find on the parts diagram where it calls for one, do you have a close-up shot of that area? it looks like a washer is on the timing chain gear there but it does not come off.

can you show me all the wiring that leads up to the battery my son took it all apart
@Hunters_Mechanics4 жыл бұрын
I have my wiring completely different around the battery because I have a truck starter relay rather than the stock one, as far as I'm concerned if nothing was changed, should be easy enough to have the short cable going to the relay from the positive terminal, then a singular cable running from the relay to the top of the starter, then the ground from the batter leads to a bolt in the stator cover. The relay has a 4 pin connector that doesn't fit anything else and the cdi has 3 connectors that only fit it. If my wiring my was untouched then I would definitely send a photo but I dont want to confuse you more with mime

Are there gaskets that need to be replaced on the 660 engine when doing the timming chain
@Hunters_Mechanics4 жыл бұрын
The starter cover, the stator cover (which is the large cover you take off) and you'll have to use gasket maker for the valve cover. I hope to get part 2 video'ed this weekend and show what needs to be replaced
