In older Vehicles a Yellow wire from the Dimmer side of the Light Switch controlled the display brightness. Who knows how it is controlled in these Computer operated Vehicles now-a-days..... Thanks Dave..

i know a lot of newer aftermarket radio's don't even have a wire for dimming i think some have options in the menu for brightness

No wire on this. Just power ground and amp control. I believe I covered that when I showed the connector pilot label.

@@12voltvids Gotcha, I did not Zoom in on the Label. This must be installed somewhere else in the RV/Motorhome and not in the Dash as I thought it was. Thanks.

Nice DVD entertainment system. I guess vibrations during driving had loosened the contacts for the display lights, these live in harder conditions than living room devices. My car audio system has a button to switch off the display completely for example in night driving, so at first thought this might have similar button or setting in a menu.

30:00 - I can see that it's probably a back and forth war between you and your neighbour(s), I can imagine they might get pissed when they hear you testing audio, probably a bit too loud. I'm not judging here, it's just an observation. In an unrelated note, Adrian of Adrian's Digital Basement (& ADB 2) shouted out to you in some of his VCR repair videos, just in case you haven't heard of.

Nope. I don't run my stereo loud. Even though I have a 900 watt amp I doubt it has ever exceeded 50. I value my hearing. I damaged it enough when I was young going to loud concerts and having loud cara and motorbikes. My son makes more noise with the shifty music he listenes to when he is high. When I do load testing I do it with resistor loads not speakers.

I believe it was a benefit concert for a drug rehab facility that Eric Clapton was involved in.

i guess car audio was a big thing in the 80's and 90's. my Dad was into it in the 80's & early 90's he would tell me about the cheap radio's they had in the 80's like Kraco he said they were junk some of the better brands were Craig, Concord, & Jensen Had some good speakers back then 6x9 triaxial & another brand called Kricket made speakers

I young guy I worked with at the shop (he assembled the TV stands and went out for deliveries.) He drove a 1000 beat up old Honda with a 5000 stereo in it and another 1000 car alarm. One night his alarm went off. He ran out and found a guy tipping his stereo out and grabbed the guy and tried to detain him. When he didn't know if the bad guy had a lookout and the lookout stuck a large slow screwdriver through his torso missing his heart and aorta by 3mm. They got away with his stereo and he got away with a 3 week trip to the ICU.

@@12voltvidsoh man lucky the guy lived . We had one car stolen a 1986 Monte Carlo we only had it for a few months so I dont really remember that car but my dad put a nice stereo in it he was going to install an alarm but never got the chance. we never did find it. Another car we had got broken into a 1972 Chevelle. guy tried to steal the head unit a 1993 pioneer cd player but it had a metal strap holding it in.that car had an silent alarm with a pager my dad was chasing him down the street but he got away.

That is what he had. Had it made a bunch of noise the bad guys may have moved on but it was silent and he came out all pumped up ready to tear the crooks head off because he had previous stereos stolen. When he did get back to work he once again put his 1500 watt stereo in. Told him he was crazy, I had a nice sounding system in my car a bose factory radio and speakers.

@@12voltvids most Stereos in cars now sound pretty good my friend has a bose system in his Chevy Malibu it sounds good there's really no need to upgrade anything unless you really want serious bass but mostly he just listens to classic rock. We own all ford vehicles now our 05 mustang has a really nice sounding system a shaker 1000. Our Ford f150 has a Sony that's good but the mustang system is better. If you have to upgrade and You really can't have anything nice at all anymore with thevies that are looking for that stuff you better off with a stock headunit and maybe just upgrading the speakers. these new radios now are to flashy with bright blue led or red lights And they really don't match the dash of any vechile. I think the radios of the 80's & 90"s had a better look to them

i wonder what the advantage of using that Jensen radio over a single DIN car radio would be except maybe for bigger buttons on the front. i would think a single DIN would be cheaper and do the same thing. as most car radio's now can play DVD's ,USB & BT

The first thought I had were the backlight was probly externally controlled by the dashboard / dimmer so I wasn’t surprised that they lit up 20 mins later 😆 oh I guess I was wrong 😵‍💫.

Only 3 wires. 12v in, 12v switch for external amp and ground. I looked at the wire harness output. So the light should be on as soon as power applied.

@@12voltvids i was thinking of a constant power wire for memory but i guess this radio does not have it. I know on most car radios you have to twist both the switched and constant together for it to turn on when using a power supply. that was a good idea you had of using the fuse for power i never thought of doing that before

It probably has a battery for memory and time backup. I didn't look closely though. Made 80 bucks on this repair and handed it to restaurant. Took the wife out for dinner. Saw a pizza that she thought she would try. Didnt say the size or the price. She asked how big it was and brain dead waitress said it was for 1 or 2. So she ordered this special and of course a half size Ceasars salad. The bloody thing arrived big enough to feed 6. Had about a dozen pieces. Cost of this pizza 35.00 (no wonder they didn't print the price) salad was 12.00. I didn't want any because I can't stand pepperoni so I ordered something else. Total came to 75.55. I left 80 on the table. Waitress gave me a dirty look. I just said sorry I wasn't expecting a pizza that was 35, all I brought was 80. Wife was shocked at the price. I said ya, no shit no wonder they don't print the price. I thought my meal was bad at 20.00. So basically a free dinner for fixing this one.

@@12voltvids sounds like my gentrified town. No salad less than $12.00 and a well drink is at least $13. At least my house has tripled in value 😂 🤦‍♂️
